Today

Thursday, September 22, 2011

I was a bit depressed today as work has been slow and I am really worried about our finances. Now, my husband is going to take a hit because of the collective bargaining mess in Wisconsin. So, we got the news today just how much more we will be paying for health care. We have our house mortgaged to the hilt. My husband can't stand credit card debt and used or HELOC to pay a credit card each month. Not sure what we are going to do now.

I do have new clients, but it will be at least a month before they are pre-approved. One of my listings won't be easy to sell, but if I could just sell that, everything would fall into place.

On top of all that, I was supposed to go see my doc for my yearly Pap, but TOM came instead emoticon reprieve. I am going to wait until October anyway as she will have her flu shots in by then.

There is one thing I learn again and again and I hope all of you learn it with me. Exercise puts juice in the joints! per Leslie Sansone It helps your body. I wasn't going to do any yesterday, and by the evening, I was hurting everywhere so I did 45 minutes of Walk it Out which helped some. Today, I took the treadmill by storm. I am going to try to keep increasing the intensity each day. My aches and pains go away when I exercise. I am still trying to convince my husband that exercise would help his Spondylolarathopy. He isn't losing fat; he is losing muscle and he has to build that up.

A friend of mine called me to meet her for dinner. I can't tell you the last time I went out without my husband. It actually felt good. She and I had a great time. I had oysters on the half shell and half a crawfish Po'boy so I didn't eat horribly. We decided to do this at least one time a month. She got a 50 dollar gift certificate to a restaurant my husband and I had banned due to the owner. (He used to be a client of mine and he was awful) But, I decided that I would go with her because the food would be free and I am going to hold my head up. I didn't do anything wrong.

I know every time I get really upset about work something comes from somewhere. It is time for that something to arrive :)

Fall 5% challenge

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

This Saturday begins my 3rd 5% challenge. I think my goals stay pretty much the same with each one only this time I really want to be successful. Last time, I lost a pound a week for the first 3 weeks and then it went haywire and, by the end of the challenge, I had put on 1.5 pounds.

I know I am doing really great with exercise. I am varying it. I get in strength training along with cardio. I change from the treadmill, to Leslie Sansone and have begun riding my horse outside more which takes a lot of balance and burns a lot more calories. I am thinking that, after watching the Biggest Loser Show last night, I may have to bite the bullet and ramp up the incline on the treadmill. They put them at 12 with no experience and I'm afraid to go to 3. Maybe you have to be barfing to be effective. :P

I believe that this time I have to focus really on what I eat and drink. Even though my husband quit drinking, I did not. I need to cut that out except maybe once or twice a week. If I quit smoking, I should be able to cut out the alcohol. We never used to keep any in the house. I also learned that I can not have just one miniature chocolate bar. So, I told DH no more miniature Kit Kats. I can go days without eating them and then I will have one night where I eat ten of them. If they are not in the house, I do not think about it.

Last, my most immediate goal is to lose just 5 lbs by October 10. I am actually going shopping to buy clothes for the winter and I would really like to get out of plus sizes. I'd even be happy with an extra large right now. For now, I am not going to lay out the whole 8 weeks; I am just going to focus on October 10th.

I will go back to blogging about my days. I need these challenges to keep me going. I will push for the 2 hours a day to help my favorite emoticon

Also, I am really looking forward to the Monopoly Challenge on The Biggest Loser Team. I love the one we are doing on the Walk it Out team, but that one is mainly steps. This one will be exercise and challenges that fit right in with the Biggest Loser Show!

Sounds like something you should be able to achieve. I know what you mean about "if they are not in the house." That applies to me and potato chips. I can't eat just a few. I eat the whole bag, and it's not a snack or individual serving size.

My Horse Takes After Me :{

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

My horse is addicted to food. He screams until they bring him food. Then he inhales it. He is out all morning grazing after being fed grain and hay. He comes in around 2 and they hay and grain again. Then they give another flake around 6:00 p.m.

JC eats like it is his last supper. He inhales his food and then wants more. They actually put him on a diet. He put on 50 pounds last winter. He gets his wellness check again next week so we will see if he lost any of it. He gets regular table salt in his food because he is prone to colic and that makes him drink enough all year. No colic issues in a year emoticon

I wish I had someone who could regulate my food like they do for him. He may not appreciate it, but I know I would :)

Heh! I sometimes wish that I'd have someone to regulate what I eat. But hey, I do have someone... me! I'm working on it. Your JC sounds like my Angel Kitty. We have her food on a timer and she starts screaming about 30 minutes before it drops every time one of us moves. We had to put her on the scheduled food times because she's like JC and a glutton. She will inhale all the food available.

Wouldn't it be so simple if all our food was controlled for us? Simple but boring!

Too funny!!! I had a thoroughbred mare that was a chowhound. She ate and ate out in the pasture and carried on when the regularly distributed mealtime flakes were passed out. She never became overweight though. I guess it was the thoroughbred in her and the fact that I rode her almost every single day. Her pony pasture buddy...he was a different story. I had to watch him carefully. He would eat until he was ready to explode. When I was forced to ration his food, he was very unhappy with me.

It would be much easier if I had the luxury of someone supplying me with healthy meals. Having the choice of what goes into my mouth makes eater a challenge.

Yes, I wish I had a chef who fed me only what was the best food for me! Look at how many horse feeds there are taylored to horses with different issues! Don't you wish there was the same thing for people?

That is unusual for a horse, isn't it? Has he had any thyroid or cortisol levels done? My son has a dog that is part beagle and is that way, eating anything in her path. She has lost 35# (yes, 35#) this year as she has a thyroid issue and is being treated.

What a day!

Monday, September 19, 2011

The day started off nice and quiet. I am getting things worked out with getting some new clients finances in order. My DH stayed home today because he wasn't feeling well. We were watching a movie and I got a call from my kid's high school.

Apparently, in the gym locker room, my son and another boy were talking and my son pulled out his swiss army knife. He never opened it ...Now, I need to fill in with what my son told me when he got home. They were talking about swiss army knives and my son forgot to leave his in his car so he pulled it out to show it to another boy. The other boy then told another boy to look at it. The other boy pulled out a switchblade and, according to my son, threatened him. He ran out of the locker room into the gym.

The boy with no knife then reported my son to the main office for having the knife. My son couldn't find an adult. The locker room was not supervised. I am checking into that.

My son was given a 3 days suspension. Day number one being today, but he can still go to his job skills job in the afternoon. Boy with switchblade was taken away in handcuffs by police. I need to mention that my son is a special needs child and one of his issues is his inability to think before he does.

I told him he got off real easy. Generally, it is a 5 day suspension just for having a "weapon" and a ticket. This is the first time my son has been suspended and he is a senior. I also told him that he could have ended up in jail or in the hospital had the other kid really come after him.

I have contacted my son's IEP teacher regarding the supervision in the locker room. I don't think any kids should be left unsupervised.

I'm glad your son is safe and wasn't harmed and that he only got a three day suspension. Locker rooms should be attended by a teacher. I know you will get it sorted out and I hope you hubby feels better, and I hope you have a better day tomorrow. Hugs.

My friend's daughter got suspended for five days in FIRST GRADE for pulling a tiny Swiss Army knife (that belonged to her brother) out of her bookbag on the bus. So I totally understand your (sort of) relief that it was "only" three days. I am glad they dealt with the real offender here.

Wow! I'm glad your son is safe and doesn't have more of a punishment for his lack of judgement. We were never left alone in the locker room, the PE teacher's office was overlooking the locker room so we were never unattended.

I'm glad he gets to maintain his life skills class at least.

I agree. That was definitely a scary situation. Where was the PE teacher? I can't imagine the students at the school where I taught being left alone like that. Yes, he did get off pretty easy, since he really only has two full days of suspension. (My school was 10 days suspension) My nephew who was also special needs, used to do the dumb things too. They just don't seem able to look ahead to the consequences. I am glad that he is also able to go to his job skills. I think the school is really trying to work with this situation but unfortunately can't ignore it compeletly.

Exercise Reflection

Sunday, September 18, 2011

This week for one of my challenges we had to focus on exercise. I got in over 500 minutes of exercise this week and learned some things about myself. First off, I have to have my heart rate monitor to push myself. I love to hear the beep that tells me that I am above my high end. I also like knowing if I am below where I should be because that pushes me to work harder.

I can't stand it if I am not in my range so I have to add exercises along with my basic Walk it Out. I don't do one thing at a time. I generally have Walk it Out in my pockets, but along with it, I will do 20 minutes or more on the treadmill and at least 1 - 2 miles of Leslie Sansone. Days I don't do the treadmill, I do Leslie Sansone 4 miles with weights or stretchy band to make sure I get in my strength training. Two days this week, I rode my horse, but I took him outside which I discovered uses a lot more balance and muscle than riding inside in the nice tidy ring. I can feel it in every muscle today from riding him outside yesterday.

The weather is crappy today, so I think I will take an easy day (I know you have to have rest days) and work on my balance with Wii Fit Balance. Lord knows I need it after yesterday. I will also, of course, find my emoticon
