the wake up call

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Finally got released from the hospital this evening. Pnemonia (sp) and an urinary tract infection with stress induced anxiety. Stress test was negative and the ticker is healthy and I was able to work out the financial end as well. Thank u all for ur support don't think I would have gone without u!!!

So now the doc says: watch what ur eating, get some exercise and lower ur stress.... So here I am again coming to my new found spark people friends saying how do I begin. Due to the pnemonia I have to wait for any real activities until after my check up in two weeks but I can start the food and stress thing right away. Ideas are so welcome!!!

Take this time and get some rest, and find something that relaxes you. I'm so glad it wasn't your heart. emoticon

Sorry about your wake up call - but glad you are at spark.
Keep it simple - small, steady change makes for long lasting results.
What helps me the most is to keep sharing in the team.

Learn to listen to your body. You had many clues before your trip to the emergency room that something was not right and you should see a doctor. TIme to be a bit selfish a put yourself first to get things under control and healthy once again!

the emergency room and me

Monday, October 25, 2010

Well after much advise from the wonderful members of sparkpeople and my family I am at the emergency room. I look a lot like an alien with all the wires and cables shooting off the bed but they say its to make sure I'm okay. Yes possible heart attack and they r going to keep me to make sure there is nothing worse on the way.... Stress test tomorrow. I'm in the best place possible right now and I have a lot of time to think about what I can do to change to make sure I never have to come here again. Ill update as I know more... So here's to hospital gowns that don't cover enough.... :)

Scared to death and wndering where to go from here...

Monday, October 25, 2010

I've been on vacation for a few days now. Ai was given a total of 7 and let me tell u that's huge where I work. After two days I went in to work to take care of a couple of things as a favor to my friend. I was only there an hour and a half when my chest tightened up and I started getting sweaty and dizzy. I came home and now two days later I am still having chest pains, shortness of breathe and pain in my arm and back but none at the same time. My family history for heart disease sucks! I can't go to the hospital or the doctor because all my finances go to keeping my family going. Can't afford a day in the hospital but I think that is where I need to go. So I'm trying to take it easy, take some asprin, and eat better... I'm scared but sure ill get through this. Just need to figure out what the next step is so I don't end up with a full fledged heart attack. I need support that will keep me to a program cause I just can't seem to do anything all the way. Does it seem wrong to scream for help from the rooftop? What. Am I going to do?I

Definitely hit the ER right away. And believe me - I get the financial thing. We have no insurance and are trying to support our family of 4 on income from one part-time job. However, we have learned from past experiences that the hospitals/doctors can't take what you don't have. They have payment plans and options for low income folks. We've also learned from experience that sometimes waiting does NOT help. You'll only get sicker or do more damage to your body and you'll end up in the hospital longer or needing more extensive surgery.... So get your butt to the hospital NOW!!

You need to go to the ER now. I know your finances may be tight, but you won't be able to continue to help your family financially if you are no longer around. You need to take care of yourself too in order to take care of your family.

Agreed! ER at a county hospital.

Also, you have the Internet, so read, research and implement everything possible to positively manage stress and anxiety. Help yourself out.

Please get yourself to an ER or clinic. You can't mess around with your heart. I know finances are difficult but it won't matter if you are done. We will all help you as much as you need but you have to make sure you are OK first.

Call your county health department and ask if they can suggest any low cost options for you.

If you have a family history of cardiac problems you need care... not self diagnosis and self treatment

I agree with the others, how will your family function if you aren't there?

You need to take care of yourself. I agree with everyone else. Go to the hospital, deal with the bill by setting up payment arrangements. You are worth more to your family alive! You need to get healthy in order to continue your journey. emoticon emoticon emoticon

You need to go to the Drs - you are worth so much more alive than you are dead! Take care of yourself!! emoticon

Sweetie, you need to get to an Emergency Room. Deal with that bill when it comes, set up a payment plan and pay a little at a time, but get to a doctor please. You say all your finances go towards keeping your family going, so how are they gonna keep going if something happens to you. If you don't do it for yourself, do it for your family. I'm pretty sure that having you around means a lot more to them than having to deal with doctor bills, so you get going. I'll be checking on you. And we can find you a program you can stick to when you're feeling better.

Brighter Days begin with U!!!

Sunday, September 05, 2010

So I woke up this morning and got ready for work. I did a quick sweep of things I did yesterday. I felt absolutely horrible when I thought of all the things I had put in my mouth and I had taken my youngest son out for Ice Cream. What was I thinking? So I jumped on my sparkpage and dumped in all the food off my list. I must be doing something right because I didn't break my 1600 calorie per day goal. I didn't even try. I just did it!!! Then I read yesterdays blog I wrote and thought to myself "What's wrong with me I can't even complete a blog entry!" So okay after viewing all the bad stuff from yesterday and realizing some of it wasn't all that bad. I stopped and did some thinking.... I am the other person who can put a smile on my face and look at the bright side. I am the only one who can make this work and follow the plan. I am the one with the control over my emotional eating and exercise. For years I thought it was everyone elses responsibility to make me happy, healthy and to make me feel loved. It's not about anyone else. If I can't do those things for myself I can't share with anyone else the blessings those things bring to me. So today I decided that every day will be brighter and better because every day begins with me. There is a note card now taped to my bathroom mirror (the first thing I look at every morning) It says: " Each day is a new day to start over and be a better person than yesterday."

Update - seems like so long

Saturday, September 04, 2010

So I haven't been on for a while, but I've made progress.... I few inches and 5 pounds not bad for a couple weeks work. And for once looking back I guess it didn't really feel like work. I've got the food thing under control and even went out to dinner last night and for the first time in my life I couldn't finish my entree and didn't feel bad about pushing it aside and walking away. This has been the best experience for me ever. I have my goals in sight and it's really easy to say no. They had a huge (i'm talking huge) tray of cupcakes at work yesterday to celebrate and I went to the fridge grabbed my peach and I was satisfied. How does that work? I have the hugest sweet/salty tooth on the planet and I didn't even think about it.
