Don't like Curves after all

Monday, October 05, 2009

Well, it's been a month and I've decided against going back. I definitely liked the women-only aspect. It was cool getting out of there in 30 mins but there were two problems. 1) I lost tone. One of my initial goals when I started to lose weight was to not have my thighs rub together. They were beginning to touch. 2) Turns out they recommend other cardio workouts like walking/running. if I still have to go to the gym (which is free) why pay $45 a month? Seems to me they should have cardio equipment at Curves.

I'll just stick with free and try to go when there aren't a lot of guys in the weight room. :-)

I went for a visit and when the 4 senior citizens walked in a started their routine, me and my daughter were like nope this is not for us! So I know the feeling. I wish you much blessings on finding your medium.

I've always been one who felt that those trendy or trendy-feeling new products and such tend to fall under the category of "if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is", but then again, I'm a rather jaded old gal myself. Sorry that Curves didn't work for and I hope your choice works for the best. (As a frugal unemployed person I also tend to prefer the "free" option - that's why I'm here!)

Before I choose my gym I browsed around and curves was one of the places I checked out. From what I was shown I didn't like it at all and on top of that it was way to expensive for not alot. The gym I finally choice had massage chairs, various exercise equipment, an area with weight equipment women basically used, two floors of exercise equipment, T.V.'s, radio to attach your headphones to and the best tanning, all of that for half the price. I'm sure some people find they may benefit from curves but I just don't see it. Good luck on your journey and may you find what works best for you. Keep up the great work and keep on sparking!!!

I joined Curves and have gone 2 times. I love it though and the trainer who owns it is great. I don't think it is for everyone though. I only do the weights because I have other forms of exercise for cardio. You should do what's best for you. It's better to go somewhere that you like because you will stick with it longer. Good luck to you and happy exercising!

I went to a Curves-like gym. Same thing, all women, but they also offered yoga, and belly dancing classes. And there was a room in the back that had elliptical, treadmills, and recumbent bikes. Towards the end of my membership, they even got one of those stand up tanning things. It was a nice place, I liked it, and the strength training was nice because it was actual weights instead of the machines at curves. I used my free trial month to the fullest, and it was nice, I just didn't have the money to continue.

Hi.. I've heard many not so good things about Curves as well as the convenience of the 30 minute thing .. .a person in our weight watchers group WORKS at Curves and she's getting better results not going to Curves.

Curves

I joined Curves. I'm not obsessing (again emoticon) just feel the need for a change. I don't like the gyms here, too many people and the gym that's close by doesn't have weight machines. I also never enjoyed working out in front of men. Just last week I skipped weights because the little weight room was full of men. Can't wait to get into the smart system and be able to work with the personal trainer system as well. I like the idea of seeing my progress with each work out.

Way to go Lana! I too am considering joining curves! To me it seems as though it is more geared for women and the gym is geared more for men. Hope all is well and have a blessed day! emoticon

Hi there! I just joined SP and I'm excited about having a forum of support, etc. But I had to respond in agreement to your post. I don't like to go to the gyms also because of the crowd, the men, and just locations in general. I also feel that the gym is more of a people-watching playground instead of a place to be serious about fitness. I'm into the Jillian Michaels workout on Exercise on Demand. I have been doing it for a week now so we'll see how it goes. emoticon

I've been w/ SP for 1 yr!

Saturday, August 29, 2009

How time flies when you're having fun! I joined SP 24 August 08 with no idea of where I wanted to be in a year or how to get there. I was 155 and now I'm 130. Well, I weigh in tomorrow so it could be a little higher. :-) My initial goal was to lose weight, but somewhere along the way my goal changed to living a healthier life. Once I made that decision, ironically, the weight began to come off. I'm really glad I found this place and the nice people I've met along the way.

    emoticon on your weight loss!!!

Don't entertain the thought the idea of liposuction! You look FABULOUS already!!! Just use weights to tone up those thighs & any other areas you want to change. So you can do it on your own, you don't have to have surgery to get the results you want.

Best wishes on maintaining your weight loss!!!

Liposuction anyone?

Friday, August 28, 2009

I got an estimate for liposuction on my stomach and thighs. It would be about $2500 each, which is a little higher than I'd hoped. My husband thinks I'm crazy and won't even entertain the idea. The doc said I didn't have fat in my belly, it's just stretched from my pregnancies I guess. She said I'd probably lose an inch, maybe two, it would take about six months to see results, and she wanted me to walk for an hour every day. I've lost more than two inches exercising and wouldn't walking an hour a day (which is more than I do now) allow me to lose an inch or two in six months, anyway?

I'm still interested in doing my thighs, though. They look good in the front but I have like a bulge on the side/back where fat has accumulated. It's smaller than it used to be but it's going away at a much slower rate than anything else. And when I sit, my thighs spread. I don't like that. I'm not working right now so the goal is to work out 3-4 days a week until Christmas. I'll see what happens then. The prospect of liposuction has gotten a little scarier after Kayne's mom and Usher's wife's death and cardiac arrest but I've lost a lot of weight and want to see the results.

Feeling less like a failure...

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

I'm down to 132.5 from 136. I still can't believe I allowed myself to gain 8lbs. I believe I've turned the corner, though. I made it to the gym 3 times last week so I met that goal. I've been tracking my food--turns out it takes effort to get back into that habit! :-) I've been eating healthier. My husband ordered pizza for dinner tonight but I ate a grilled cheese sandwich (no butter, 50 calorie ham, and a sprinkle of shredded cheese and a salad. I did have half a bottle of Mountain Dew but I don't feel bad about that. It's the first I've had in a while and I didn't feign for more. Tomorrow I hit the gym again. Oh! I'm back to lifting weights. My wrist has been a little sore but nothing I can't manage. Now that I'm thinking things over I'm actually feeling pretty good!

Congratulations on your weight loss! You should be proud of yourself for sticking with it. Life happens & we have to deal with it! We are only human-although sometimes I think I am Wonder Woman! Keep up the good work-you're doing great.
