Wow, what a wonderful surprise this morning to find out that I'm in the spotlight. I think it is way cool. What I am really hoping for is that I can, while I'm in the spotlight, I can encourage everyone to continue moving forward on their journey to a healthier life. As you can see, I have a long way to go, as I'm know alot of you do too. With the help of all our wonderful Spark friends, we can make that journey a wonderful time.
We are going to have our ups and downs along the way. The most important thing is to NEVER GIVE UP!!! Remember, we are working on a healthier lifestyle. It's not a diet. We don't have to give up anything that we don't want to. We just have to have them in moderation. We also have to learn to make healthier choices most of the time. We can do that!!! There is so much on Spark People to help us with this journey.
For years my mom "nagged" me to lose weight. She didn't want me to end up a diabetic like she was. I tried so many different diets along the way. Most of the time they didn't last and I gave up. My mom lost her battle with diabetes and heart disease in 2001. Five years later, I found out I was a diabetic. I was in shock. Even though I've been overweight my entire adult life, I was always healthy for the most part. I came home from the dr. and just sat in front of the computer in shock. I wanted to just sit there and cry, but I didn't. I got online and went to several diabetes websites and read everything I could. Even though my mom was diabetic for years and I thought I knew alot about diabetes, I was in for a shock. There was so much information I didn't know. That very day I cleaned out my cabinets and went grocery shopping for healthy foods. It was almost one month later when I found Spark People. I found so much support, motivation, and inspiration here.
I've received alot of help from my Spark friends. There were days I didn't want to exercise or eat healthy, but my friends encouraged me to continue. I still have cheat days from time to time, but I don't let them drag me down. I get right back on track the next day. I know that if I want to get off my diabetes medications, I have to limit those cheat days to once in a blue moon. I need to focus on eating healthy and exercising.
One thing that has really helped me along the way is to support and encourage all of my Spark friends. I help to motivate myself by giving support and encouragement every day to all my Spark friends. I really hate to see anyone upset or down, even though I get that way myself from time to time. So I try to encourage them and get them out of their blue mood. Who said that getting healthy and losing weight was going to be easy??? Definitely not me or I'm sure you. It takes alot of hard work, but who said we can't have fun along the way. So let's remember to have some fun today.
Join Spark teams!! Have fun with your Spark friends!! Encourage, support, motivate, and inspire yourself and your friends along the way. Remember, NEVER GIVE UP!!! We can do it!!!! Enjoy your day and don't forget to make it healthy and active!!!!
Thank you to Spark People and all my wonderful Spark friends for being here for me!!!

This month I have been working on getting in more walking with ultimately doing a 5K. Since I have more time on my hands with being unemployed, I have been doing my walking outside in the morning. Normally, my walking has been indoors, whether it was walking around the Call Center production floor or doing Walk Away the Pounds. So finally getting outside and doing my walking and feeling the difference has been very surprising. I didn't realize how much of a difference it is to walk outside. I have just been walking around the block. I'm walking on the street because my small neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks. I have been realling feeling the difference in my hips, legs, and knees. My first trip around the block was rough. After about a week, I was in alot of pain with my hips and knees mostly. So I had to take a little break and went back to walking indoors. Now, I switch back and forth. Hopefully, with time it will continue to get better. On Memorial Day, I walked around Warrior's Walk at Fort Stewart on sidewalks. Of course, I was going at a much slower pace, but I did notice that it is getting easier walking outside. Now, it seems I am having to deal with the hot temps. So I need to figure out if it will be better for me to walk in the morning or in the evening after the sun goes down.

The one thing that I miss wearing more than anything is jeans. I used to live in jeans, but I haven't worn jeans in over 16 years. My son doesn't ever remember me wearing jeans. He was a baby the last time I wore them. I have two pair of jeans hanging in my closet right now. One of them I can put on, but it takes alot to zip them up. When I do put them on, I feel so uncomfortable. So I'm working on losing another 10-15 lbs as my next mini goal, so that I can put those jeans on and not have to struggle to zip them. I want to feel comfortable in jeans again. I know I can do it. It just takes discipline and exercise, in other words alot of hard work. I will get there. I know I can do it.
