January 3rd

I forgot to post a blog on my day yesterday. I didn't get done working until 10 p.m. last night. I had such a busy day yesterday. I did accomplish all my goals. I walked the dogs twice yesterday. The second walk was at 10 p.m. I would not be walking that late at night without my son going with me. Between the dogs and my 6'4" son, I feel pretty safe. I also did a one mile Walk Away the Pound workout. We also tried another Spark recipe. It was a beef stir fry. My son also found a baked rice recipe and make it to go with the beef stir fry. My son actually prepared almost the whole meal by himself because I was busy with work. He loved it. Unfortunately, he left the stir fry on the hot burner and when he went to fix my plate when he was done, it was burnt. I did eat the less than burnt pieces though. Overall we both had a great day!!

January 4th

I had another busy day today. The good part is that I stopped working just after 8 p.m. That's when we went for our second walk. It was pretty cold this evening, but we made it through the walk. When we came back, I took a break to go through email while I was waiting for my clothes to get done in the dryer. Once the clothes were folded and hung up, I did my one mile WATP workout.

So today was my first weigh in day of the year. I'm sure I lost weight because of all the fluid retention I have been dealing with later. According to the scale, I did gain 1.8 lbs from my lowest weight last year. My weight was all up and down last month. I was just so thankful this morning to see that weight. By the way, our new Fit Bit Wi-Fi Scale is pretty cool.

For supper tonight, we tried yet another Spark recipe tonight. I was Mexican chicken. We had it with rice. I loved the Mexican chicken, but my son wasn't a fan of the salsa that was put on it. He scraped off most of the salsa, I thought it was delicious and I'll be have more of it tomorrow for lunch.

Another great day for us today. Normally, on Fridays, we would have some type of fast food for lunch or possibly supper; not this Friday. We are determined to stay away from unhealthy fast food. I plan on continuing with my goals over the weekend. It will be a little bit of a struggle since we normally eat out. I know we can do it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! Make it a healthy and active weekend!!!

emoticon Lainie - one meal at a time - i step at a time . . . however you need to do it so that you can feel good about what you've accomplished. Remember if you are planning on eating out, you can go to the website to view nutritional info and plan your meal before you enter the restaurant. emoticon

January 2nd

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

First of all, I want to thank everyone who commented on my blog yesterday. I'm sorry that I don't have time to thank you individually. It warms my heart to have so much support and encouragement from my Spark friends.

Today I went back to work after having 3 days off. I had a busy day with work. I work from home as a telemarketer setting appointments. I start work at around 9:30 a.m. and end my work day at 9:30 p.m. I take breaks throughout the day, so I'm not actually working a 12 hour shift. It does feel like it at times though. I do try to get up every hour. I usually get up and do a 5 minute clean up around the house.

I also take a break to walk the dogs. I have been on my walking the dog streak for 104 days so far. We have been just walking them once a day around the block. As one of my goals this month, I want to walk them twice a day. I was planning on walking them once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Today we didn't get to walk them in the morning. I got in the afternoon walk. Then when I got done working at 9:45 p.m., we took them for a walk around the block for the second time. The air was much cooler and someone had a fire going, so it was a little harder for me. I have asthma and the cold temps and smoke make it more difficult to breath. I did make it and I'm proud of that.

For supper tonight, we tried two new recipes from Spark People; sesame chicken and a fried rice, which isn't really fried. They were both very good. My son picked out the recipes. It sure makes it easier for me when he picks out the recipes. That makes it easier for me. He is such a picky eater. That is one thing I won't miss when he leaves home. lol

As for my other goals, I got in 12 cups of water, which is easy for me. I love water. I got in all my fruits and veggies. The big one is that I avoided processed foods today. Plus, I did my strength exercises today.

Tomorrow will be my first day back to doing a Walk Away the Pound workout. I think it's been a month or more since I did one. I have quite a few to choose from. I think I will start with the One Mile Express Walk.

Happy New Year!

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

The new year always seems to bring on a fresh start with all kinds of possibilities. 2013 will have a lot of changes for me. My son will graduate in May. I will have to move out of this house I'm renting for us. He will be moving into his own place. I will be moving closer to my sister and niece. My sister will more than likely move in with me. I'm looking forward to be closer to them. My niece has two little boys I adore.

Before my son graduates, I want to lose more weight. I've lost 80 lbs so far. It's taken me several years. I want to lose 50 lbs by his graduation day. That may seem like a lot to most people, but I know that it is doable. If I don't make it to the 50 lbs, it won't be the end of the world and I will be happy with any loss. It really helps a lot that my son is more focused on losing more weight as well. He's working on getting in more fruits and veggies by juicing. That isn't exactly what I want to do, although I have been tasting his concoctions to help show support.

I am also working on eating healthier by getting in more fruits and veggies. Now that my son is on the kick, it will make it much easier for me. We are continuing our walks with the dogs. I'm also continuing my streak with giving up Diet Dr. Pepper. It's now been 103 days of streaking.

My first order of business this week is to call and make a dr.'s appointment. I have no insurance. My sister just started seeing a new dr. Since I will be moving there in the next 5-6 months, I decided to call this dr. She grew up in the area, but just came back to be closer to her family and started up her new practice. Hopefully, she will take me on since I don't have insurance. I haven't been to the dr. in a year. I ran out of all my prescriptions months ago, which isn't good at all.

Here are my goals this month:

1. Walk twice a day.
2. WATP workout at least 3 times a week.
3. Strength exercises on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
4. Eat 5-6 fruits and veggies a day.
5. Drink 12 cups of water a day.
6. Avoid processed foods as much as possible.
7. No fast food, with the exception of Subway.

Here's to a year full of possibilities!!!

Wow, Lainie, you have some big changes on your plate coming this year! emoticon on your 80 pounds so far; that's really impressive! Graduation is a great goal to lose the next 50 you've targeted. You have mapped out a good plan, and each of those things can be done and quantified. emoticon
Here's to a Happy and Healthy 2013 for you! emoticon

Thank You!

Saturday, December 08, 2012

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the wonderful responses to my Christmas tree. I really appreciate it. I have left it the way it is. I didn't find any ornaments when I went out last night shopping. The ones I did find were a little too expensive for me. I'm on a tight budget and would rather spend that money on presents for my son and the rest of my family. I'll just have to watch the after Christmas sales. That's the best time to buy ornaments anyway. In fact, I believe most, if not all, the decorations on my tree were bought at after Christmas sales.

I love this time of year. I love looking at all the lights and decorations people put out. I saw some pretty decorations last night when I was out and about. Most especially, I love being with family. I'm more about giving than receiving. I would be just happy without presents, because I get so much joy in watching others receive.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!!!

The more you put on -- the more you have to take off. (Guess that goes for weight as well as ornaments).

My Christmas Tree

Wednesday, December 05, 2012

I got my tree set up on Saturday. I have a 7 foot pre-lit tree. I'm a little OCD about decorating my tree. I have different color themes that I do. Lately we have been stuck on a blue, silver, and while theme. It took me 4 days to get my tree decorated. I'm still thinking I need more snowflakes on my tree. I may go on a search for more snowflakes over the weekend.

I had my son take a few pictures of my tree. He did it through instagram so I'm not sure if I can post them here.

The first picture was taken during the day without the lights on.

This picture was also taken during the day with the lights on.

This picture was taken this evening. I love this picture.

So what do you think? Do I need more snowflakes or other ornaments??

I vote DONE! but yet what do I know???? as you know - mine is still naked!!!! I can't even believe that you wanted MY opinion on this - but I'm sure glad you posted pics and asked b/c now that I see how gorgeous a fully dressed and decorated tree looks --- I'm getting more motivated to continue my project!!! lol !!! but don't hold your breath . . . . . .

I'm so glad you took pics with and w/o lights and day/night --- interesting how it changes the look. Even my naked trees look pretty good at night with their lights on --- of course nothing like what your's looks like --- but still they glow nicely and the neighbors across the street probably have NO idea that they're naked!!!!

let the tree story continue . . . . . . .
