Day 304: Death and Random Thoughts for 2011

We had to put down our lab of 12 years. It was peaceful but very sad. He is gone! And he will never come back. It is so quiet in the house.

The experience has unearthed memories of deaths of pets, friends and family. It has awakened in me a thirst for life like never before: I am determined more than ever to drink in every last little drop of life I still have left. It is too easy to take life for granted and there it is, ever so fragile. My resolutions for 2011 will be like never before: (I used to actually hate them because I never kept them anyway!) I will keep them with a vengeance!

Here they are:

25000 fitness minutes (70 minutes a day)

2011 kms of cycling

1000 kms of running
I still hope to run the HM in March but if I cannot I will be ok with that one, too.

A swim challenge here and there

365-day- yoga-streak; Rodney Yee's A.M. Yoga (love this DVD!)

-Track it all
-Drink at least 64 oz. of water
-Avoid empty calories
-Abstain from sugar
-Watch the carbs
-Eat mindfully and control my portions

-Weigh in once a week and record it.
-Loose 20 lb. by December 2011

I can do this and I am looking forward to it.

    I'm so sorry about your pup. I know how hard it is... I still go to my mom's house expecting my dog to come running across the kitchen at me!

    So sorry about the loss of your is truly devastating. But, glad that you have a positive outlook on 2011 and are using this loss as a way to further motivate yourself.

    The death of a pet is so brutal, we had to put down our puppy in the fall. Devastating. Good luck with your goals, living life to the fullest is the best!

    Oh no!! I'm so sorry your furry friend has passed away! That is so sad! Losing an animal is SO hard because they are part of our lives every single day! I hope you are okay! emoticon

There is not a doubt in my mind that 2011 will be a GRAND year for us! Woohooo!!

Day 301: The Bike! and Ideas for 2011

Wow! I ordered that bike a few days ago, and was wondering if I would get it before the end of the year. It arrived yesterday! And it is beautiful! What a Christmas! I feel like driving around the living room! Silver, white saddle and oh! so elegantly Italian! The Giro d'Italia is just round the corner..!

Now I have to start thinking and rethinking the challenges for 2011. Pure joy!

How about:

2011 kms cycling emoticon
1005.5 kms running emoticon
25 miles swimming in January (gym challenge, yep, another one emoticon)

Sounds pretty unreal to me but I may just go ahead and DO it!

ST 10 minutes daily emoticon
Yoga 10 minutes daily emoticon

I just did some calculations (and I may be wrong!)
It is about 1-2 hours of cycling/week
about 3 hours of running/week

and 60 hours of yoga and ST all year. Not impossible.

25 000 fitness minutes?

The only thing needed: P&P (Persistency and perseverance!)

    That bike would definitely give me motivation... I wouldn't be able to walk past it in the garage without feeling guilty for it just sitting there.

Day 298: A Bike!

Since I have been such a good girl with my bicycle (Yeah, I will reach the 300 miles in December) I will get a bike for Christmas!
I am sooooo excited!
An Italian road bike, woohoo!
That seems just the incredibly appropriate gift for an incredible year.
Had someone dared telling me on Jan. 1, 2010 that I would want nothing better than a road bike for Christmas, I would have seriously questioned that person's sanity.
But here we go!
Nothing seems impossible with SPARK!

PS: I am not sure what could could do for a swimming challenge. Since I haven't swam in years, I will have to start off slow, but we could do something like # of times we went to the pool during the month? Any other ideas?

Day 294: One Year of Spark and 2 Hours of Spinning

I did go to the 2 hour Spinning class. We were 9 people. Some hard core spinners, a boy-friend, me. I was going to put myself out there and then quit when I would not be able to take it anymore. The boy friend, a lot younger than me, was the first one to quit, two more people quit. Not me! At the end of class she asked about the mileage. The super-duper spinner covered 36 miles (he ate two gus during those 2 hours.) She did not ask me (I am shy, remember) but... I had covered 32 miles! I was one happy camper!

A year ago I was recovering from surgery. My motivation to wanting to loose weight was a co-worker who has to go through airports in a wheel chair because she is overweight and never cared about physical exercise. And I did not want to end like that. In January I started walking, slowly, 1 mile an hour. Then I did C25K, and I never thought I could do it. My first spinning class was absolutely terrible, I could not get out of the saddle.

Today I did it all, jumps, and climbs, and sprint, and all, for 120 minutes!

Yes, I have already mentioned that I am excited about 2011! That is not true:
I am SUPER excited about 2011, and very grateful for 2010.

I have only just started, baby! You will see!

PS. A year ago I did not know what gu was!

    That's terrific! I don't think I'd last through a 2 hour spin class.

I didn't know what Gu was 6 months ago! We have come a long way, haven't we??? I can't wait to see what 2011 brings. We've only just begun!!!

    Ohh I can imagine how challenging that was. I just now did my first full hour class, I actually made it through better than I thought - and it was my first experience with jumps too!

My first class was just a 20 minute intro and then I did a 45 minute class. I think the instructor makes a big difference too, because that 20 minute class killed me.

Enjoy everything that 2011 will bring your way!

Day 294: New Resolve for the Last 13 Days of 2010

Yes, it was finals week and parties and grades and cleaning house and, and....
The bottom line is that my eating was so-so and my fitness poor. But that will change starting today:

Yesterday I picked up the ribbon for the 1000 swimming miles in Nov. and that gave me the necessary kick: I will cycle the 300 miles in Dec. (and buy me my own ribbon, LOL!) I have to do 15.6 miles a day to finish. I can do that! I will do "2-a-day." The weather today is bad, rainy, cold and windy, so I will have to go to the gym and cycle, which is a lot less pleasurable than outside but so be it. I just remembered that there was a special 2-hour spinning class this morning! Yeah, we shall do that! It's gonna kill me! I have never done 2 hours of spinning, insane!

And there will be no sugar, no chips and watching the carbs as in "curbing the carbs" and not watching them pile on!

The pool now is totally empty. Everybody got enough in November when we were fighting for a lane. I miss the swimming. Can't wait for January! Swim challenge with Canada ;)

    I'm so jealous about that 2 hour spin class! There are a couple of those at my gym: one on Christmas eve day at 6am and one on New Years eve at 6am. I would have gone to both but Christmas eve I won't be in town and New Years eve I'm running a 10K race that night. I don't know if I can handle 2 hours of spin AND a 10K race on the same day!! The longest spin class I've ever done was 75 minutes and that was HARD!
Good luck with the no sugar or chips, this time of year really does make that a challenge!
