If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It

Monday, July 22, 2013

(Just saying, I am not trying to offend anyone with this blog.) I have been struggling over the past copy of weeks with my journey. After much thought and frustration I have decided to do what I know works. I started my journey in January of this year. And I started it with SPARKPEOPLE. I worked up to where I was walking 2 miles a day with some running, I was doing Coach Nicole ST videos every night for 1/2 hour. I was eating better. I had a routine. I was relying on my Spark friends to travel the journey with me.

Then I got into looking at fitness pages on Facebook. Don't get me wrong, I like Facebook just as much as the next person, but it distorted my plan. I started seeing all of these people that were skinny and muscle bound so I thought I needed to do what they were doing to lose weight. I got so overwhelmed with all of the information and stuff out there that I just shut down. I don't have the money to go to a gym, but after looking at those pages I thought that was the only way I was going to lose weight.

Now I'm not criticizing anyone at all. Everyone has their own journey and goals. It's just that's not the look I'm going for. I want to be skinny yes, but more than that I want to be healthy and toned. I would make excuses not to walk, excuses not to exercise, and excuses not to eat right. Then this weekend I got to thinking "Lisa you know you can do this and you know how to do it!". Where's that woman who stopped at the track in a snowstorm and walked 1.5 miles in 3" of snow? Where's that woman who walked when it was zero degrees out? Where's that woman who followed Spark and lost 20# in 4 months?

I am working on finding that woman again because I know I can do it and I know how to do it. Yes I like the recipes, motivations, etc. on FB and I will continue to look at these pages for suggestions, but I KNOW SPARKPEOPLE WORKS!!!!!!! I'm getting my head on straight and finding that woman again. If you need her she'll be walking in the rain tonight after work!

It is quite overwhelming out there for sure Lisa. There is so much information you could end up drowning! You do have to stick with what works for you -although you might have to change it up if you are sticking to the same thing all the time. That is very inspirational to walk the track in a snowstorm!

You are right. The important thing above all is to live a healthy life with a balanced life of nutritious eating and moderate workouts - for what works for you! You want to live disease and cancer free throughout your years - that is what I am gunning for.

WTG Lisa! Yes I agree there is a lot of information out there, but we all have to find what works for us and stick to that. I have been distracted at times but this or that or someones success and not mine, but I too learned that I needed to stick with that worked for me. I love that about Sparkpeople they give you great tools and information to use to form your way. This is a journey we all share in the sense we are on it and have similar trials and goals, but we also have parts that are just for us.
I am glad you are finding your way back to a journey that works for you.

Hugs and smiles

Okay I've just got to say wow! You walked the track in a snow storm? Maybe a little of you dedication will rub off on me. I don't think I'll ever walk the track during a snow storm but maybe just enough to get me off the couch on a cold day and moving to an exercise video. emoticon

That's wonderful that you have discovered what works for you and are going to get back to that. I am terrible about getting sidetracked when seeing the way others lose weight. I've bounced all over the place over the years. It's a challenge to stay focused. Congrats for getting back to the basics that work for you. emoticon emoticon

Season of the Beast Week 3

Saturday, July 06, 2013

Our main challenge this week was to pick out workout challenge for this season and do the first week. I chose pushups. I completed week one of the challenge and I think I did quite well. I am still doing them on my knees but hope to eventually be able to do full push ups! We're on our way!

The bonus part was to log our food for the week and practice mindful eating. I logged my food everyday, everything I ate. I tried mindful eating but with the holiday thrown in it was a little difficult. I really need to work on this area.

On to week 4!

Week 17 Challenge Springing into Action

Saturday, June 15, 2013

Well, we made it through this challenge!!!!

Our main challenge this last week was to try something we wouldn't have tried before the challenge. Mine was running. I never, ever thought I would be a runner. People would say something to me about running and I would say "this body wasn't made for running"! Well, I walk every day and I have been incorporating some running into it...and you know what....I love it!!! I plan to keep adding more running to my daily cardio!!!

The bonus part was to figure our BMI. I thought I would just compare my results from the beginning of the challenge until now.... here goes:

Weight beginning 183, now 176 -7# total!!!!
BMI beginning 35.7%, now 34.4% -1.3% total!!!!!
Total inches beginning 185.5, now 176.5 -9# total!!!!!

All in all I think I did pretty good for my first big challenge with Spark. I know I could have done better but I did the best I could and that's all I can ask for.

I'm so looking forward to the next challenge, Season of the Beast!!! Now to select my beast to slay!!!!

emoticon

Congrats to all participants in the challenge!!! You are all amazing!!!! Let's keep Sparking!!!

Thank you!

Kind of Ironic

Friday, May 24, 2013

I was so pleased with myself today. Today makes the 125th day of my walking streak!!! I can't believe I have walked everyday for the last 125 days. The ironic part is I went to the local high school track tonight to do my daily 2 miles there was a big sign covering the entrance saying the track was closed for the summer!!!!! I couldn't believe it!!!! Apparently they are repaving the track this summer!!! So, I did my walk in the cemetery that is right next to the track. I can't get too upset tho because the track is for the local school's meets. Anything for the kids!!!! emoticon I'll just have to find new places to walk this summer.

believe it or not, but cemeteries are great places to walk. they are quiet and mostly cool and there isn't much traffic. plus, our ancestors used to have picnics there, all that grass.

Springing into Action Week 11 Challemge

Saturday, May 04, 2013

Our main challenge this week was to take a color quiz and then to find out our personality type according to the quiz. My color is blue and the description fit me perfectly. "Blues will benefit from keeping a training log or wearing a pedometer or heart-rate monitor. They like familiarity and cleanliness and will prefer an exercise space or gym that is organized, safe, predictable and clean." I log everything I eat and all my fitness. I love keeping my spark streaks alive!!! I wear a pedometer all day every day. I like challenging myself to get over 10,000 steps a day. I like familiarity and being comfortable in my surroundings. I think that's why I would rather work out at home instead of going to the gym. I like to concentrate on what I'm doing without distraction.

My suggested activities were rowing, walking, running, yoga, and interval training. Our bonus challenge was to participate in one of these activities 3 times this week. I already walk every day so I have been adding some running to my walking. I really enjoyed running more than I ever thought I would. I also do yoga with my strength training videos at least 5 times a week. I really liked this challenge. What was you color???
