August 22nd: very high calorie day

Monday, August 23, 2010

I'm feeling even better today, yay, but very tired, so going to make this short. Aunt and two cousins came over and much food was consumed. I also had a white Russian. Shock. Gasp. I have maybe 2 or 3 glasses of wine a year as about as many other alcoholic drinks (if that) during the year. Anyway, it was good. LOL. Definitely over calories, but not an everyday thing and it was yummy and worth it. Was actually doing pretty okay until the ice cream at the end. Definitely didn't need those 400 calories. Tomorrow is a new day, though. Hope everyone has a good Monday and the week gest off to a good start. :)

This is a hump day. "Just keep swimming girl" over the hump and on to the next day. We all deserve sweet treats sometimes and a white russian and ice cream fits that description nicely!

Super-cool that you keep a visual blog of what you eat. You're not the only one that over-indulged this weekend. Have fun self-correcting!

August 21st: Error 404: Blog Not Found

Sunday, August 22, 2010

So I had written my usual long rambling blog and Spark ate it (Internet Explorer was doing illegal things, actually). I don't have the time or the mindset to retype it, so here's the highlights:

Did make that PB and J last night. Ate other two peaches this morning for breakfast, so I bought more. Feeling much better (about 90%) and only the headache is hanging on, but staying about a 2 of 10 and only spiking to 5 or 6. Yay. Having a get together tomorrow (3 family members coming over) and lots of food (yay and ut oh on that one). Got adventurous with cooking today, and ended up with 11 freggie servings. Yay. Off to bed. Have a good Sunday, everyone. :)

Josie, what is bulgar? Looks like something I could sub for rice or potatoes. Is it healthier and do you have some recipes you would share?

I tried couscous but hubby did not care for their texture at all and refuses to eat it.

August 20th: a kitten by any other name

Saturday, August 21, 2010

Thanks everyone for the name suggestions. Chelsea did pick a name for her kitty - Eva. According to her, she was trying to find the right name and the song "Eva" by Nightwish popped into her head. So the kittens are Eva and Chi(mera). Eva's starting to come out of her shell now, too.

Today was an...interesting day. To spare you the details, everything that could go wrong did, but not disasterously, just enough to be frustrating and annoying. Again and again. LOL. At least the day is just about over now. I can try again tomorrow. Feeling even better today, too, so that's helpful.

Interesting story, and the only really good thing to happen today, I dropped my sister off at the grocery store where she works and stopped in to pick up a few things. Saw they had organic peaches on sale for $1.99 a pound. I grabbed three, which I guessed to be about a pound. Ate one in the car (picture!) and then checked out the receipt, I mamanged to get exactly 1.00lb of peaches. That made me feel special, LOL. I think it almost offsets the suckiness of the rest of the day.

I'm still wanting that PB and J (didn't have it last night), so I think I'll go make that now. Happy weekend, everyone. :)

August 19th: Costco and Kai

Friday, August 20, 2010

Motley has now been renamed Chimera, nicknamed Kai, since she's a mix of all different colors and whatnot. I like Kai much better. For those who don't know, a chimera is a mythical creature with body parts of many different animals. (It's pronounced either kai-meer-uh or kai-mer-a.) The other kitten is still really shy and not very personable, so her tenative nickname is Shy (maybe Shiloh?) We just lost Frak last month, and still have his littermate Fric. Fric and Frak, get it? We're looking to do something cute with the new additions, too. Anyone with any related or rhyming ideas for the second kitten, please feel free to mention them.

I didn't take a nap to day and I'm feeling better, but still not up for Zumba. Turning my head too quickly or bending over or exerting in any way causes my headache to really start throbbing, so I figured Zumba was not a good idea. Not suer about tomorrow, either, but we'll see. Definitely feeling better though. Certainly not "good" yet, though. I know from experience though that trying too much only makes things worse, I just have to wait for the fibro flare to run its course.

Mom and I went to Costco and I got many yummy things (including the granola snack mix and burrata cheese I ate today) and was pretty good with not getting terrible for you stuff. Heading to bed now because Fridays are my long days. I have to walk Haylie twice on Fridays (around 10am and 4pm) and then the Danes in between (11a-2p sometime). I try to take the 90 minute Zumba class from 5-6:30pm and then I have to do the cleaning, etc. for the kitties for the rescue group anytime after 5pm. We generally have fast food Fridays, too, so I do the cleaning and play with the cats then get fast food for everyone on the way home. Between Haylie's first and second visits I need to take Kaity to the college campus and we're going to make sure everything is set with registering for classes, etc. Chelsea has work at 5pm and I may need to take her (so may not get to Zumba even if I'm feeling up for it) if parents aren't home yet (they're taking a day trip in honor of my mom's last day of freedom, LOL, she works as a Head Start cook and gets laid off for the usmmers and strrts again Monday).

Hope everyone has a pleasant Friday. I have been trying to deal with the hungries and the feeling huilty for not exercising (even though I physically can't) and having TOM and definitely indulging too much. Trying to work some things out. I haven't had a "hungry week" in a fwe months, but this week is definitely one. Not sure if it's just another example of bad timeing or if it has to do with the fibro and/or stress, but definitely been hungry more this week than I "should" be. Trying to hold out and just go to bed, but I may end up with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich tacked on to this in a bit, as my tymmt is growling. Blegh. Anyway, have a good day, everyone. :)

We once had Tailvis Presley and Tailvira, Mistress of the Dark. Working with Schnauzer Rescue, we named a LOT of dogs, including such pairs as Iago and Desdemonda, Romeo and Juliet, Ding and Dong, Luke and Leia, Salt and Pepper...

At the moment we have a little calico female we've named Leelu - after the character in the Fifth Element. A neighbor found her over the winter, hit by a car and left for dead in the slush on the side of the road. Since she, literally, dropped into our laps, was our fifth critter, had some unworldly communications issues, and is the sweetest, most loving kitty ever... It had to be!

Josie, don't get frustrated with yourself and your TEMPORARY limitations. Once you are better you will get back on track. If not, all of us Cats will come and find you for a Cat fight emoticon emoticon

And fights are physical activity emoticon emoticon emoticon

So you will have become active again, AND can say emoticon

Hang in there! This fibro flare will pass, and you will get back on track.
PS your pictures lack some veggies =)

Hmmmmm, well if you want to stay with the theme of classical monsters, you could try Medusa (since she's shy...since a Medusa would have to stay out of sight in order not to turn everyone into stone)... OR if you want to stay with the Chimera myth, you could name her Echidna (for the mother of Chimera). Or you could go for Manticore (which is another type of similar creature). Here's a link with some resources:

:D (Can you tell I'm both a name geek and a Classical Mythology geek?) LOL

August 18th: headaches and ice cream (part deux)

Thursday, August 19, 2010

So, today involved more headaches and more ice cream. Also more pain and also more not exercising. Fairly uneventful day. Hoping tomorrow I feel better. I really do want to do Zumba. I didn't do C25K W1D2 as planned today because my head is throbbing and my hips are really bothering me, so not a good idea. Also seem to have a form of mild shin splints, which, knowing my body, may or may not actually have anything to do with my running attempt on Monday. Fun, lol.

Didn't get my smoothie today because I ran out of frozen fruit and I was planning to go to the store and run another errand but I slept too late (FedEx was closed) and mom already had pasta sitting out by the time I got up. Was in more of a chocolate, ice cream, and crap mood today (thanks, TOM), so I made what I am affectionately calling a TOM Sundae (ice cream and brownie batter, LOL). Was totally not planning on eating oreos (haven't had them in years!) but sister literally set them in front of me, so I ate 4. :(

In other news, we got two female kittens, bringing the total of our feline menagerie to 6. Youngest sister saw an ad for them in a store and inquired and it turns out the women has a feral cat that comes by and has kittens once or twice a year and she hasn't been able to trap it (2 years running, I think). There were 4 and they had 2 left. They're about 13 weeks, and she was literally going to give them to the same rescue group that I volunteer for if they weren't gone by Friday (and she's had no takers in a week), so in a sense we rescued them from needing rescuing, I suppose. They're UTD on all shots except rabies which we need to wait about 3 weeks for. One in very shy and the other is more curious. Youngest sister claimed the very shy one, as yet unnamed and going by the designation 3 (as in 3 of 4 kittens), because it was prettier, LOL. Mom is laying claim to 2, now tentatively called Motley, as in a motley mess, because she is several different colors with random patches and streaks of color, two different colored ears, and a beard, lol. We all know cats choose their people though, so we'll see. We've taken bets on when my dad would notice, and so far he hasn't. I lost, because I guessed he'd notice between dinner and bedtime. Mom votes sometime tomorrow before bedtime, and Chelsea says not for at least another day, LOL.

(3, the "pretty" and so far unnamed kitten Chelsea claimed)

(2, so far "Motley", being held by Chelsea - same cat in both bottom two pictures)
