July 18: Dr Appt.

Yep..it's time for the three month update! Drum roll PLEASE! It's official. I have gotten rid of another 11 pounds! Yes, that's ELEVEN pounds!

I know now that I'm NOT going to make my original goal of 137 by August. HOWEVER, I am happy with the progress that I'm making. I have decided that I am looking at the long term and not on the short term.

My A1c is holding steady and that is with a drop in insulin dosage! The insulin is now down to 14U in the morn and 13U at night. Going down.

I'm going to keep with the walks. Yes, I did make some changes on the walk timing. Thanks to the hot Arizona desert weather, I now split my walks. I walk at least 5,000 steps/2.5miles in the morn and the same at night. I aim for 10,000 total or no less than 8,000 steps.

It's about time to start cleaning out the closet. It's out with anything over a size 16. I'm keeping some of the larger shirts for yard work and outfit options.

Next new goal is to start aiming for more blog posts! Wish me luck on that one.

Now to change the weight dump goals. Keep sparking people! It really works!!!!

    11 lbs.! that is so AWESOME!!! You are doing great with your walks. It's been to hot here to walk also. I too am walking in the house.
Enjoy cleaning out your closet! I can't wait til I can do that!

    Sounds like you had a great doctor appt. - I just went for mine this week too and my doctor was happy with my blood pressure, no weight gain and great cholesterol levels so I'm sure you are as happy and relieved as I was! You are doing wonderful with your walks in that heat - I've been walking inside around the house with this heat. Have a super week!

Apr 18: Dr Appt

Well...good news AND bad news.

First, will be the bad news. I've only lost 6 (six) pounds in the last three months! I console myself with the "muscle weighs more than fat" comment.

Now for the good news!

1. My cholesterol has dropped from 206 to 173! The added nuts every night and fish twice a week has really worked wonders!
2. I've lost six pounds.
3. My A1c is at 5.7. That means fewer lows on the blood sugar.
4. Doctor dropped my insulin units again! I'm down to 16 units in the morn and 14 units at nite!
5. I am now starting to wear size 14s (down from size 16) and large shirts instead of Extra Large! So, I'm still shrinking!
6. I now walk at least 10,000 steps every night in 75 minutes. That works out to about 4.1 miles and a 19 minute/mile!

Points of it all...health is getting better, muscle is forming and I LOVE my nightly walks! I am going to keep "sparking" and stay positive!

Jan 18 2011-It's Official!

It's official! On October 18th, 2010, I weighed 189lbs. Today, January 18th, 2011...I weigh 175lbs! Doctor's scale confirmed. I am so thrilled! The doctor was very pleased and asked me how I was doing it. I really gushed about SparkPeople. He told me to keep it up because it was working.

He cut back on my insulin too! He did refrain from changing my insulin type. He explained that we should wait until I'm closer to my weight goal. The change in insulin could cause me to gain some weght until the dosage is settled. I said that at a lower weight I could handle adding and then dumping a five pounds and that right now adding back any weight would not be good.

My A1c has dropped from 6.2 to (drum roll) 5.3! Part of the drop is all of the lows I've been experiencing. The lows are a direct result of dropping wieght and exercising. Doctor suggested that I keep exercising and talking to my dietician.

I am thrilled! I dumped 15 lbs over Thanksgiving AND Christmas! I'm looking forward to just how I do over the next three months. Thank you everyone and most of all...THANKS SPARK!!

Thanks for the votes of support...the positive comments! I really do appreciate it. Therefore, I'm NOT going to give up on my December goals. I did set those goals to go up...not to push me back down.

So, today is a pedometer day. I get to take my youngest daughter back to college. She comes home every other week, stays overnight, and goes back the next day. Yep, she goes to a four-year college about 15 miles away, She stays in the dorms for most of the school year. The walking and back and forth activity is a good idea on just what I put in for the day. Now, the night is a whole different story!

I'm already prepping stuff for the new year! I've had a program on my puter for quite a while and have decided to learn it and start using it. It's going to help me coordinate all of the health and life stuff into something that I can setup to start at a specific time every day. I think that it will help keep me focused.

Dec Goal Frustration

Wouldn't you know it? The minute I post new goals...ACK! I keep telling myself that the new goals are SUPPOSED to be motivation. It's just not looking that way right now! Then I make the mistake of stepping on the scale. Not good. Come to find out the scale at home is over 30 years old and (according to my dad) hasn't been accurate in about 15 years! It always reads about 10 pounds more than is true! Part of it has to do with there not being a level place to set it on. So, it's ignore the scale or rip up all of the tile in the house. I'm going for ignoring the scale and waiting for doctor appt in January.

Next option is to find the measuring tape. Scary! My clothes are fitting better and I'm having to cut back on the insulin. I know...those are small consolations. However, for now, I'll take what I can get. hehehe

Hope everyone else is getting all set for the Winter Holiday season!

    Girl the Best news is cutting back on the insulin!!! That is so awesome! It definately shows you are doing something right!

As far as the scale goes...the # may not be accurate but the loss is! As the previous poster said: go to the dr. in Jan. and weigh, then come home and get on your scales and adjust accordingly.

No matter tho'...A LOSS IS A LOSS!!! You are doing Fantastic!

    You have great accomplishments. I take pills for diabetes and I just had to cut one out. I think that is a great feat, and so is your dropping back on insulin. Clothes fitting better and getting too big is a thrill. I know the scale seems important. It is to me. I'm daily weigher, and I know that some people don't agree with that, but it's important to me. If you want to weigh, how about buying a new scale and getting a piece of plywood or something that you can put under it to level things off. Not being level will definitely affect day-to-day weigh-ins, but even if it is off from the doc's, you can make that adjustment when you go in January. Figure out the difference and go from there. I wish you continued success. You have been making great strides. Keep it up.

    Hey! I think that having your clothes fitting better is great!
But what I find amazing is that you had to cut back on your insulin meds. Don't worry about the scale, you are on the right
track. Keep up the great work!
