Haven't been writing lately - been lazy and depressed. This always means, as I've come to know, that I'm headed for another breakthrough. Not sure I'll share it here; I have a lifelong habit of not really sharing my deepest thoughts. It's a trust issue, as sharing in the past has proven disastrous. May be another thing I have to "work through." I'm so delighted at my age to not be perfect yet. I sense when we reach perfection.... we die! LOL!


Cilantro coming up from last year's seed. I'm so delighted to see these (there's two!) coming up. Will save us from having to purchase them.


New planting of narcissus, purchased last fall from the local master gardener's organization.


We've grown our own garlic for years. When you pull them up, they leave little seed heads behind (about the size of the base of your thumbnail). We just let them grow wherever they want to. We haven't had to purchase garlic from the store for a long time.

    I have the same trust issue, and you're right, sp is probably not the right platform for your deepest thoughts. I do hope you have another outlet.

Sleeping till 10 a.m.?

Yes... today, 10 a.m., and I used to be a chronic early riser. The good thing is I feel nice and rested today.

Husband and I are working, which means a discombobulated day. I do chores when I'm not typing, but my schedule is whenever he needs me. So much better than working in an office. I can actually do other things while I'm working. The bad thing is that it's really easy to procrastinate on exercising. My goal is 1000 minutes this month and I better get crackin'.


Daffodils are starting to bloom here. Time to get outside!!!

1) Did I cook yesterday? emoticon Quick meal of whole wheat pasta, store bought marinara sauce and freshly shaved romano cheese. Really delicious, and my husband scarfed it up. We don't take the time to eat well when we're working, usually, so this was A Good Thing.
2) Exercise at least 10 minutes a day emoticon 15 minutes of strength training. I can definitely tell I'm getting stronger.
3) Nothing to eat after 8 p.m. emoticon handful of pecans before bed time. Stomach was rumbling, and my pet phrase "it's okay to be hungry" didn't even enter my mind.

Doctor checkup today: Stressed out for no reason

Last year, during a stressful time, I'd had some chest pain. Today's checkup indicated no problems. Will be very interested in the lab work.

Most fun thing from my sewing room?



Digging into scrap basket and making "mug rugs," which are so much fun, and make me feel virtuous using small pieces left over from other projects.

1) Did I cook today? No.... advantage of being only two people? Leftovers last a long time. I really only need to cook about 3 times a week. However, it was time to make steelcut oats for breakfast. I did that... then can reheat a bowl full the next 3 or 4 days. Love this breakfast with fresh blueberries most mornings.
2) Exercise at least 10 minutes a day emoticon 22 min. Bootcamp video with Nicole
3) Nothing to eat after 8 p.m. emoticon

    I like to chop up apple or pear into my steel cut oats. Berries are good also.

Yes, the advantage of just two people is that food lasts so much longer. I usually freeze leftovers in single serving portions, then I can grab one a week or two later and it doesn't seem like the "same old, same old", yet it's really fast and easy and healthy.

    You are doing GREAT!!! I do know what you mean about cooking for only 2. DH is the cook but he only needs to cook a couple days a week as left overs last a long time unless some of the grands come by. lol

Love the mug rugs!! I need to make some of them too.

Thumbs up to pumpkin butter

Followup on jellies and jam as sweetener for hot cereal..... yummy! Especially my daughter's pumpkin butter I ate today. I'm limiting myself two 2 tsp., so it's not quite as sweet tasting as my maple syrup, but it's really good.

1) Did I cook yesterday? Yes - Chicken fingers, browned with olive oil, on noodles with herbes de provence and parsley. Really tasty. No vegetables on hand, so ate fresh grapefruit after a while. This time of year the red varieties of grapefruit are so delicious, I have one or two a day.
2) Exercise at least 10 minutes a day emoticon 30 minutes with Leslie
3) Nothing to eat after 8 p.m. emoticon

    Not heard of pumpkin butter before - I'll have to look that one up. I'm still working through the horseradish sauce but I'll be onto the chilli jam shortly!!

Using stored food

Cleaned out the refrigerator yesterday, something I do too infrequently. Found 4 jars of mayonnaise (that's my husband for ya!), and 9 jars of various kinds of jelly. The majority of these were gifts over the holidays.

My usual way of eating jellies and jams is on toast with butter. The bread is always whole grain, but it's still a hefty calorie use, and always with butter. This morning, because gifts are something I find hard to just immediately throw away... I decided to use them as sweetener in my hot cereal. So... peach jam in whole wheat cereal, instead of the usual maple syrup. Tasted delicious, added a little bit of fruit flavor, and was 43 calories instead of 50. Not bad.

Daily goals, yesterday:

1) Did I cook yesterday? Yes and no.... had cold canned salmon in fridge, cooked broccoli drizzled with olive oil to go with it. Not what I consider a full meal, but highly nutritious.
2) Exercise at least 10 minutes a day emoticon 15 minutes strength exercises
3) Nothing to eat after 8 p.m. emoticon Had salted nuts right before bed time, something I always regret the next morning when I wake up fuzzy mouthed and really thirsty.

And here's something for us all to think about: The last photos of my mom, who died almost exactly one year ago, are precious to me, though she tried to avoid them ("because I look terrible"). We are what we are, and our family loves us right now.

    It must be the season -I'm currently putting a thin spread of horseradish sauce I found in the fridge on my work sandwich to help use it up. The jar of chilli relish got finished last week!
Your wise thought is very correct - those that love us, love us for who we are (warts 'n all).
