Life's Lessons 101

Life's Lessons 101

There once was a bunch of tiny frogs ...
who arranged a running competition.
The goal was to reach the top of a VERY high tower.
A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race
and to cheer on the contestants ...
The race began ... Honestly ...
no one in the crowd really believed that the tiny frogs
would reach the top of the tower.
You heard statements such as:
"Oh, WAY too difficult!!"
"They will NEVER make it to the top."
"Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!"
The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one ...
except for those who, in a fresh tempo,
were climbing higher and higher.
The crowd, however, continued to yell,
"It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!"
More tiny frogs got tired and gave up ...
But ONE of them continued higher and higher and higher ...
This one wouldn't give up!
At the end, everyone else had given up climbing the tower,
except for the one tiny frog who, after a big effort,
was the only one who reached the top!
THEN all of the other tiny frogs, naturally,
wanted to know how this ONE frog managed to do it??
A contestant asked another tiny frog
how the one who succeeded had found
the strength to reach the goal?
It turned out
that the winner was DEAF!!!!
...The Wisdom of This Story Is...

Never listen to other people's tendencies
to be negative or pessimistic
because they can take your most wonderful dreams and wishes
away from you ... the ones you have in your heart!
Always think of the power that words have,
because everything you hear and read will affect your actions!
Therefore:
Be DEAF when people tell YOU that
YOU can not fulfill YOUR dreams!
And always keep thinking: I CAN DO THIS!

This is not only a lesson for listeners but also to those who speak without realizing the power of negative talk. We should all aspire to be the best we can be and also to support those who are also aspiring to be the best they can be. Thanks Lita for sharing, once again - a very thought provoking story.

THE HEART OF FRIENDSHIP

THE HEART OF FRIENDSHIP

True friendship isn't seen with the eyes,
it is felt with the heart,
when there is trust, understanding,
loyalty, and sharing...
True friendship is a rare feeling,
but when it is found,
it has profound impact on
our well-being, strength, and character.
True friendship does not need
elaborate gifts or spectacular events
in order to be valuable or valued.
To ensure long-lasting
quality and satisfaction,
true friendship only needs
a few key ingredients:
Undying loyalty, unmatched understanding,
unsurpassed trust, deep and soulful secrets,
and endless sharing.
These ingredients,
mixed with personality and a sense of humor,
can make a friendship last a lifetime!
This is just a thank you, my friend,
for all the wonderful and colorful
special ingredients
you've brought to my life!

Lita, first of all, lovely poem! Friendships are priceless when they are this kind.

Secondly, I agree with Sharon on getting other opinions. I'm glad the last 5 lbs. off has helped, but if your pain isn't being recognized by your doctor, then you need to look elsewhere for help. I'll be praying for you on this difficult road your trying to walk.

Lita, I can definitely identify with what you are feeling. I lived with severe arthritis from 35-51. bone on bone. They told me I was too young for surgery and to try to wait until I was 60. I never would have made it! I gave in at 51.

If I were you I might consider getting a 2nd and even a third opinion. I did and that's how I happened to get my total hip replacement at 50 instead of 60. It was the 3rd doctor for me that said he could see that I was in pain, and I was definitely a candidate. It's your body and only YOU know how you feel. If you don't like what you heard, search until you begin to hear something that resonates with you. Hope this helps. . .

FRIENDS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

FRIENDS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Some people come into our lives and quickly go;
Some people move our souls to dance; they awaken us to new understanding
With the passing whisper of their wisdom;
Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon.
Friends share simple, ordinary times in our lives,
Moments that become memories that stay in our hearts forever
... And we will never, ever be the same.
Friendship is a strange thing ...
It is by chance we met, by choice we became friends;
We find ourselves telling each other the deepest details of our lives,
things we don't even share with our families who raised us.
But what is a friend? A confidant? A lover? A fellow email junkie?
A shoulder to cry on? An ear to listen? A heart to feel?
A friend is ALL of these things and more;
No matter where we met, I call you "friend":
A word so small ... yet so large in feeling ... a word filled with emotion.

Once the package of friendship has been opened,
It can never be completely closed;
It is a constant book always waiting to be read ... and enjoyed.
We may have disagreements,
We may argue, we may concern one another ...
Friendship is a unique bond that lasts through it all.
A part of me is put into my friends: some is my humor, some is my listening ear,
Some is real life experience, some is my romanticism, but with all, it is FRIENDSHIP ...
Thanks for making a difference in my life!

May You Always Feel Loved

Sunday, February 13, 2011

May You Always Feel Loved

May you find serenity and tranquility in a world you may not always understand.

May the pain you have known and conflict you have experienced give you the strength to walk through life facing each new situation with courage and optimism.

Always know that there are those whose love and understanding will always be there, even when you feel most alone.

May you discover enough goodness in others to believe in a world of peace.

May a kind word, a reassuring touch, a warm smile be yours every day of your life, and may you give these gifts as well as receive them.

Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending.

Teach love to those who know hate, and let that love embrace you as you go into the world.

May the teaching of those you admire become part of you, so that you may call upon them. Remember, those whose lives you have touched and who have touched yours are always a part of you, even if the encounters were less than you would have wished. It is the content of the encounter that is more important than its form.

May you not become too concerned with material matters, but instead place immeasurable value on the goodness in your heart.

Find time in each day to see the beauty and love in the world around you.

Realize that each person has limitless abilities, but each of us is different in our own way. What you may feel you lack in one regard may be more than compensated for in another. What you feel you lack in the present may become one of your strengths in the future.

May you see your future as one filled with promise and possibility. Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience.

May you find enough inner strength to determine your own worth by yourself, and not be dependent on another's judgements of your accomplishments.

May you always feel loved.

Perseverance — Just Keep Planting

Perseverance — Just Keep Planting

Just Keep Planting
When Paul was a boy growing up in Utah, he happened to live near an old copper smelter, and the sulfur dioxide that poured out of the refinery had made a desolate wasteland out of what used to be a beautiful forest. Paul vowed that some day he would bring back the life to this land.
Many years later Paul was in the area, and he went to the smelter office. He asked if they had any plans to bring the trees back. The answer was “No.” He asked them if they would let him try to bring the trees back. Again, the answer was “No.” They didn’t want him on their land. After praying about the matter, Paul realized he needed to become more knowledgeable before anyone would listen to him, so he went to college to study botany.
At the college he met a professor who was an expert in Utah’s ecology. Unfortunately, Paul was told that the wasteland he wanted to bring back was beyond hope. He was told that his goal was foolish because even if he planted trees, and even if they grew, the wind would only blow the seeds forty feet per year, and that’s all you’d get because there weren’t any birds or squirrels to spread the seeds, and the seeds from those trees would need another thirty years before they started producing seeds of their own. Therefore, it would take approximately twenty thousand years to revegitate that six-square-mile piece of earth. His teachers told him it would be a waste of his life to try to do it. It just could not be done.
So he tried to go on with his life. He got a job operating heavy equipment, got married, and had some kids. However, as a good Christian, he knew that “faith by itself, if not accompanied by action, is dead” (James 2:17). So, he kept studying about the subject, and prayed for guidance on the matter. Then one night he felt led to take action by faith alone. He would do what he could, and trust God to do the rest. This was an important turning point.
Samuel Johnson wrote, “It is common to overlook what is near by keeping the eye fixed on something remote. In the same manner, present opportunities are neglected and attainable good is slighted by minds busied in extensive ranges.” Paul stopped busying his mind in extensive ranges and looked at what opportunities for attainable good were right in front of him. Who among us hasn’t wondered what God wants us to do in our life here on earth? Under the cover of darkness, Paul sneaked out into the wasteland with a backpack of seedlings and started planting. For seven hours he planted seedlings.
He did it again a week later. And every week, he made his secret journey into the wasteland and planted trees and shrubs and grass. But most of it died. Like so many of our hopes and dreams. However, Paul had faith, and kept planting.
For fifteen years he did this. When a whole valley of his fir seedlings burned to the ground because of a careless sheep-herder, Paul broke down and wept. Have any of you had this kind of set-back in your life? I sure have! But Paul got up, and kept planting.
Freezing winds and blistering heat, landslides and floods and fires destroyed his work time and time again. But he kept planting. One night he found a highway crew had come and taken tons of dirt for a road grade, and all the plants he painstakingly planted in that area were gone. I don’t know about you, but this sounds like the way things have gone in my life. Time for some major prayers. Then Paul kept planting.
Week after week, year after year he kept at it, against the opinion of the authorities, against the trespassing laws, against the devastation of road crews, against the wind and rain and heat… even against plain common sense. He just kept planting.
Slowly, very slowly, things began to take root. Then gophers appeared. Then rabbits. Then porcupines. The copper smelter eventually gave him permission, and later, as times were changing and there was political pressure to clean up the environment, the company actually hired Paul to do what he was already doing. They even provided him with machinery and crews to work with. Progress accelerated.
Now the place is fourteen thousand acres of trees, grass, bushes, as well as all kinds of wildlife. Paul has now received almost every environmental award Utah has. He says, “I thought that if I got this started, when I was dead and gone people would come and see it. I never thought I’d live to see it myself!”
It took him until his hair turned white, but he managed to keep that impossible vow he made to himself as a child.
What was/is it you want to do, that you think is impossible? Paul’s story sure gives a perspective on things, doesn’t it?
The way you get something accomplished in this world is to trust God for guidance, and just keep planting. He will show you the way if you have faith, and keep working. Just keep plugging away at it one day at a time for a long time, no matter who criticizes or laughs at you, no matter how long it takes, no matter how many times you fall. Get back up again, keep trusting God, and just keep planting.

Actually this story resembles many stories about the founding of big and tiny cities in modern Israel, as well as some of its... well - I'm not sure what we have can be called "forests" - maybe "groves".
Faith can have many forms. emoticon
