A Creed to Live By

Author Unknown

Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others,
It is because we are different that each of us is special.
Don't set your goals by what other people deem important,
Only you know what is best for you.

Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart
Cling to that as you would your life, for without them life is meaningless.
Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or the future.
By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your life.

Don't give up when you still have something to give
Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect,
It is the fragile thread that binds us to each other.

Don't be afraid to encounter risks,
It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.
Don't shut love out of your life by saying it's impossible to find.
The quickest way to receive love is to give love.

The fastest way to lose love is to hold on too tightly,
And the best way to keep love is to give it wings.
Don't dismiss your Dreams.
To be without dreams is to be without hope.

To be without hope is to be without purpose.
Don't run through life so fast that you forget where you've been,
But also know where you're going.
Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored every step of the way.

Friends Without Faces

Friends Without Faces
by Thomas Teague

We sit and we type, and we stare at our screens,
We all have to wonder, what this possibly means.
With our mouse we roam, through the rooms in a maze,
Looking for something or someone, as we sit in a daze.

We chat with each other, we type all our woes,
Small groups we do form, and gang up on our foes.
We wait for somebody, to type out our name,
We want recognition, but it is always the same.

We give kisses and hugs, and sometimes flirt,
In IMs we chat deeply, and reveal why we hurt.
We do form friendships - but - why we don't know,
But some of these friendships, will flourish and grow.

Why is it on screen, we can be so bold,
Telling our secrets, that have never been told.
Why is it we share, the thoughts in our mind,
With those we can't see, as though we were blind.

The answer is simple, it is as clear as a bell.
We all have our problems, and need someone to tell.
We can't tell "real" people, but tell someone we must,
So we turn to the 'puter, and to those we can trust.

Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains,
They are Friends Without Faces, and odd little names.

got my scan results friday an still don't know re the torn meniscus.............i did find out that i have some rarish type of knee problem so i'm told.....it called meniscal chondrocalcinosis which menas my knees are full of debris called calcium deposits floating around?????i will be have an mri sometime this spring???? so everything is in limbo re the knee at the moment........this condition is what causes so much pain so that makes me feel somewhat better as after a while you almost feel the dr think you are making things up etc............ so i just will deal with things as they come up........so have started back to the pool this week and will continue so long as the knees allow and when an acute phase comes again the dr's will decide at that time what to do.......so the good news is i'm hanging in there and will continue to plod along the best i can every day..........
thanks dear friends so much for being there for me................there have been many many times i felt like i should just give up but it is so many of you here on sparkpeople that have kep me coming back every day........together we can do this...........i beleive we can ............and we will acheive our goals and dreams...........

At least they can give what causes your pain a name. It is validating and the doctor can see it! I agree that sometimes they make you feel like you're making it up! I hope you'll be feeling better soon. I love to exercise in water too, as you know. There are lots of things we can do in water that we'd never attempt on land. Thanks for sharing the lovely poem. You and I have never met but you have a place in my heart.

Lita hang in there it can only get better. Try doing some sitting exercises for the upper body and the water exercise for the lower body. Stay active. I'm sure when you get the MRI in the spring they will decide what they can do.

The poem was right on. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Lita, Thanks for keeping us updated about your knee. At least now you have an idea of what's going on with it. You just have to hang in there and do what you can do. Do more on your good days and less on your bad days (as if you didn't already know this), and most of all, remember that we are all here for you when you need us. Happy Valentines Day!

Another inspiring poem to hold close in heart, as I do with you. Having an "answer" can be of help. Moreso, because we feel less alone, that someone cares. I respect your "plodding" along. You're in good company these days.

Thanks, LITA, for sharing about your knee problems...and welcome to the club...one with way too many members!! Monday will be my 7th week since authoscopic surgery for my torn meniscus and I am headed back to the surgeon next week to see what the next "options" are. A month after the surgery the knee became inflamed, with swelling, heat and intense pain when walking, even with the aid of my cane. I got a cortisone shot at that time which gave me no relief. Last week's call to the surgeon put me back to keeping the leg elevated and iced as much as possible, and I am still seeing no real difference, hence another appointment to be made. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers in the days ahead for good decisions, good days, and good health. God has given me 3 different scriptures this week about "healing" so I am trusting the Great Physician for the outcome...for both of us!

As You Travel Through Life

As You Travel Through Life

As you travel through life there are always those times
When decisions just have to be made,
When the choices are hard, and solutions seem scarce,
And the rain seems to soak your parade.

There are some situations where all you can do
Is simply let go and move on,
Gather your courage and choose a direction
That carries you toward a new dawn.

So pack up your troubles and take a step forward
The process of change can be tough,
But think about all the excitement ahead

There might be adventures you never imagined
Just waiting around the next bend,
And wishes and dreams just about to come true
In ways you can't yet comprehend!

Perhaps you'll find friendships that spring from new things
As you challenge your status quo,
And learn there are so many options in life,

Perhaps you'll go places you never expected
And see things that you've never seen,
Or travel to fabulous, faraway worlds
And wonderful spots in between!

Perhaps you'll find warmth and affection and caring
And somebody special who's there
To help you stay cantered and listen with interest
To stories and feelings you share.

Perhaps you'll find comfort in knowing your friends
Are supportive of all that you do,
And believe that whatever decisions you make,
They'll be the right choices for you.

So keep putting one foot in front of the other,
And taking your life day by day...
There's a brighter tomorrow that's just down the road -
Don't look back! You're not going that way!

i have had several challenges that were unexpected that has made my journey more difficult for me but i must plod along as best as i can set backs or not.....am still awaiting the results of the knees scans and will see my family dr next friday........i have been unbale to exercise due to the increase in pain even though the swelling has come down..........i tried this week without success and will give the pool another try on Tuesday and see how it goes........

i know i would certainly be in a very different place than i am now ...........
it is all thanks to everyone on the teams and of course all the inspiration from so many here on sparkpeople, that is what keeps me going and coming back everyday..............saw this on another post somewhere and liked it as it seemed appropros ...........
" I will get there; Im just taking the scenic route :) "
wishing you all well as we journey here together..........
blessings and hugs..............lita

Lita you are amazing. You are always posting these great poems that say so much. I am sorry to hear your knees are bothering you so much. There are a lot of chair exercises you can do that doesn't put any pressure on your knees.

I like your scenic route comment. Just like life, there are many routes to a single destination. When my friend and I used to go on weekend jaunts we always said we never got lost we just went on scenic routes because we always ended up where we were going. Keep up the great work.

I loved this. I am so trying "to pack up my troubles and take a step forward."

I am sorry you are in such pain. I hope your scans come back with a definitive answer as to what is going on and what can be done to alleviate the pain. I wonder why it is more painful now that the swelling has gone down? I hope your knee mends soon!

Do you have a set of weights at home that you can at least sit down and do some reps with the weight targeting different muscles? You might not be able to put weight on the knees but I can do over 45 mins. of different weight exercises for my upper body including my abs and waist sitting down in a chair with the weights. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Lita, There is no doubt in my mind that you will regain your fitness prowess within due healing time. Claiming it. Take this time to relish and reflect and most certainly, engage the pool gingerly. So healing to not only the body, but the soul. Take some time to just float on your back and BE in the water with gratitude. This is my Sunday meditative routine that has proven to be so restorative. This is time for restoration. Take that time. This life is a journey, not a race. There is only ONE you...

There's nothing to fear - you're as good as the best,
As strong as the mightiest, too;
You CAN win in every battle or test
For there's no one just like you.

There's only one you in the world today
'Cause nobody else, you see,
Can do your work in as fine a way:
You're the ONLY one there'll be!

So face the world, and all life is yours
To conquer and love and live,
And you'll find the happiness that endures
In just the measure you give.

There's nothing too good for you to possess,
Nor heights where you cannot go:
Your power is more than belief or guess -
It is something you have to KNOW.

There is nothing to fear -
you can and you will,
For you ARE the invincible you,
Set your foot upon the highest hill -
There's NOTHING you cannot do.

It is good to be proud of ourselves ... but we have to earn that self respect, and I think it comes from making promises to ourselves -- and then keeping them. Too many of us don't. So I believe in being proud, but I know I need to work for it, too.

Great poem. Thanks, Lita!
