THE WISDOM
IN HOT CHOCOLATE

A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at
a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired.

During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives.


Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a
large pot of hot chocolate and an assortment of cups — porcelain, glass, crystal, some plain looking,
some expensive, some exquisite. He then told them all to help themselves to the hot chocolate.


When they each had a cup of hot chocolate in hand, the professor said:

"Notice that all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones.
While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress."


"The cup that you're drinking from adds nothing to the quality of the hot chocolate.
In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink."


"What all of you really wanted was hot chocolate, not the cup
... but you consciously went for the BEST cups."

"And then you began eyeing each other's cups."


"Now consider this: Life is the hot chocolate; your job, money and position in society are the cups.
They are just tools to hold and contain life."

"The cup you have does not define, nor change the quality of life you have.
Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the hot chocolate."


The happiest people don't need the best of everything.
They just make the best of everything that they have.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

PEARLS OF WISDOM

A mirror is only as good as the reflection in it.

just got back late the other night.........we went down the oregan coast..........and didn't have any internet..........weather was great and we all had a wonderful time......so am now trying to catch up............it might take a few days????

my lap band journey so far.............

i am wrtting this to let you know that all is not as we expect sometimes even with the band ..............life is not always fair....................i did this to help my knees etc................as i was unsuccessful with everything else and the band offered what i thought was some hope.............i am not the poster child for the lap band...........i had knee surgery last august and since then,my weightloss had come to a grinding halt...............at least a 6 month plateau..........no matter what i did........the scale would not budge......i started circuit training feb and then gained weight............all be it muscles...........i am working with many specialists,nutriontionists/dieticians.dr etc..............i have spent too much money to give up in it now................so i just keep plodding along and am hopeful things will turn themselves around sooner or later....................it is by no means an easy journey,no matter which path one chooses....................i eat clean foods most of the time................do the exercise...........thing ......3 days/week 2 hours and 2 days for at least an hour or more..................i used to exercise 7 days/week for at least 2 hours..............so i have come down a bit..............with that..................i have changed it up with the exercise/diet...............my family dr feels my adreanals and cortisol levels are quite low so am working on that too at the moment.....................i have faith in god that with his help i will overcome and win.............there are many of us who are slow losers as far as the weight is concerned and i guess i'm in that group,i originally had lost 30 pounds,now at 26 pounds.......i have had many good days most of the time,but with the knee situation some days are not so good although i keep working through the pain.....most everybody i have encountered have had great success and am happy for them and their acheivements.......i know someday i will be one of them.......the lap band is still only a tool to assist you as work at losing the weight....i don't regret my decision,just wished i had had better success with it by now .......i don't have any other health issues to date..................... thanks again to everyone who have given me their help and support ....................blessings and hugs...........lita

    Hi Lita,

I'm sure glad that you wrote. I can't figure out how to find my address book so I have written to no one that hasn't writeen to me.
I am off prednizone completely. I was weening off w/out the dr knowing and when I saw he said for me to stop them but being at 30mg is a little high to stop, stupid dr. I was at 20mg and that is a bit high but I stopped.
So I am hoping to lose more weight now I am off that drug but I do take Nerotin and that is a fat drug.
So what ever weight I lose is a great surprise and I too am at a snails pace. May it is our ages too. I exercise but not often and when I do it I really work out, as you can see from the fish pond.
I usually just sit at the computer and work.
No, I don't have the most brillant dr in the bunch. I did call the Mayo Clinic but they don't accept my insurance and I have to pay for the plane and a cab to get to the hospital that is 1 hr away, all my food and my hotel. So I guess I can kiss that idea our the window.

    my family dr feels my adreanals and cortisol levels are quite low so am working on that too at the moment.


Hon, what are you doing for these two things that you mentioned? I was just wondering, because I found DR. POON'S DIET and he deals with all types of health issues. He went to medical school in America, but is now in Canada.

    HI I am so sorry for all your struggling .But as I see it 26 pounds off is a great achievement so it is going slow. Thats ok it will stay off. and just keep with it Rome wasn't built in a day all good things are worth the effort and waiting for. You have been a great inspiration to me and I thank you. keep up your great attitude we will get there before we know it. Thank you for being here for us if you need me I am here. May I ask do you follow high protein low carb thats what helps me when I didn't do it I didn't lose as well. I am going to join CURVES I will give it a try. But if I stop losing I will quit until I am down more. take good care and keep a positive attitude Hugs Bobie emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I admire you for sharing your journey and I admire your determination. I am a 9 yr BC survivor and I think because of the chemo drugs and meds afterward it has made my meatabolism go at a snails pace. I am slowly plugging along here, I have made progress but not near as much as I thought I would have by now. This month I have have dramatically increased my cardio and have added strength and I still am bouncing up and down a pound or 2. The good thing is I am maintaining even though I am not eating as clean as I should be. It is hard to stick with it when things aren't going the way you thought but I also am determined to do this.... it just might take longer than expected. Soon the ticker will start moving again and then I will regain my motivation and start eating totally clean again... I am sending my ticker over to kick your tickers butt so we can both get moving again. LOL HUGS Kathy

since i joined sparkpeople............i have decided to make a real commitment to the lifestyle changes............as someone said the other day somewhere................"I am definitely Sparked for Life"! I've lost more than 30 pounds so far...................and gained a few back ...........its a work in progress.................... . Since being here on this site , I feel i can do this no matter how long it will take...................being connected to friends/teams have given me the motivation to stay committed here...................for that i say thank you to each and everyone who has become part of my journey..........i am committed to being here a long time to help others as well as myself too.......................Good luck to everyone and many many blessings and hugs to all..................This is a "one of a kind" message...a truly beautiful and moving movie. ...May You Be Blessed.
