5 Weeks to 13.1

Sunday, March 09, 2014

I want to start off by saying how amazing that my last blog post was voted a popular blog post. My reset is still going fine, although if anyone knows a remedy or antidote for loving baked goods then please let me know.

I have started training for a 1/2 marathon on April 13th, 2014. It's usually only until you go through something that you appreciate and respect the process that other went through. It makes me a little sad, but I think that its human nature. In five weeks, I will be crossing another milestone as 13.1 is the longest run I have ever done. That is if the training doesn't kill me first. Of course, I am joking but its the real work. There is nothing better in life than setting new goals and crushing them. So as I continue my journey I hope someone is inspired to complete their "if not now...when" and love life.

Good luck in your half! I've got one scheduled for 5/4 and I agree - so long as training doesn't kill me I should be able to finish. Keep up the great work in setting and beating those goals.

If Not Now...When

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

So its been a while since I last posted on my blog. Its kind of sad because I haven't gone backwards on my healthy lifestyle, I just haven't gone forward. It wasn't until 25 days ago that I realized I still wanted to do more. I lost a lot of weight about 75 pounds, and I am proud of that but it wasn't the goal. When you lose a lot of weight, it feels good for people to freak out, ask how you do it or spread rumors about a surgery you know you couldn't afford. But that is just it...I'm still not satisfied and lost focus of my goals.

So this led me to start back at the basics, I set the reset button on Sparkpeople, and got to work. I signed up for a half-marathon in just 8 weeks, and I am running on new campaign in my life if not now...when. The older I get the better man I want to be so if not now...when because nothing in life is guaranteed. So as you stumble in your journey I hope maybe reading this will make you rise back up because if not now...when.

Loved your blog. You are definitely motivated. At least you didn't do the 'backwards slide' while taking your break...good for you!! I wish I could say the same, but unfortunately without keeping my head in the game, I have put back on 20# of the weight I so proudly took off. Now it is hard to find the push I need to get back on track. Your blog might be just what I needed. THANK YOU!! emoticon

I agree that having new goals keeps you moving forward. Your goals are bigger than mine (increase weights in Body Pump, get better range of motion in yoga, etc.), but they keep us excited about and focused on the next step forward.

KP... the Gardener???

Sunday, April 14, 2013

So anyone probably knows that losing weight and being healthy is not dieting but a changing your lifestyle. This week I am beginning some new journeys that I am excited for this week. So the school I work at was doing its part to promote healthy eating by handing out fresh produce and plants. In my excitement for the students I took a zucchini plant. However, I immediately regretted it as I am a city boy through and through, and had never grew anything but I now own a zucchini plant and peppermint.

I am looking forward to a new challenge and hopefully will be able to keep the plant alive long enough to actually eat the "fruit of my labors". Remember there is nothing better than being rewarded for hard work.

You will do great. I grow zucchini in my "garden" which is containers on my deck. They grow well too. Peppermint is easy and will grow like a weed!! Good luck!

You picked a good one. They are hearty and easy to grow. Make sure you give them plenty of room to spread out. Zucchini bread, in pasta dishes, in soups, oh it is so versatile and yummy!

Good luck on your venture. You are right this is a change of lifestyle and you've taken another step in the right direction!

The Results are in!

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

So this past Saturday, I ran the Mud Run in 1 hr and 6 minutes! It was a great day and my wife was there to cheer me on which gave me the courage to finish. My goal was to finish it in 1 hr, but the camaraderie of two other Mud Runners made up for those 6 minutes. Also coupled with the fact my leg was not 100%, I feel pretty good about my accomplishment.

All this week I am off of work (Spring Break) and I have decided to take a break from exercise. Since running the Mud Run, other members of my boot camp class have invited me to several other races, and I would like to be 100%. I have been icing and stretching and continuing to eat right, but no exercise.

For anyone, reading I again say that there is nothing better than being rewarded for hard work.

The Race is Near...

Sunday, March 17, 2013

So this is the third week of my training, and I don't feel as comfortable as I should be about the Mud Run. The Sparkpeople streak is still going and that is exciting. I think I have been eating right although that could always be better and cleaner. It is especially harder to eat right when my wife is out of town. She is in her hometown enjoying her family and friends.

The only thing has not been really comforting is my leg started hurting early this week. It is a sharp pain in my lower leg, what I believe to be shin splints. Its caused me to slow down and really try to stay off it so that I can actually race next week. Its funny to me because I really hate when people diagnose themselves but here I am doing it. I've been icing it regularly and elevating it, and it feels much better than early this week. Hopefully it'll feel great by Saturday.

I want to do my best! I want to show everyone that there is nothing better than being rewarded for hard work!
