I took some time off to recover from a medical problem and to recover from my step son's tragic motorcycle accident. We are back in full swing and I havent gained a bunch of weight back so I feel as though im not starting at square one. YAY me!

After spending some time getting better from a little medical problem, I am ready to get back at it. Last year was pretty sucessful. I lost eleven pounds and increased my endurance. Now I need to expand on that.
I'm feeling good about myself.

1. No matter who tells you to...do not drink RED Bull before your race...you will dry out and forget that little piece of good advise about pacing yourself. My natural adrenaline works nicely thank you very much.
2. Other runners are a distraction that you have to learn to deal with...so are cars, traffic and spectators.
3. Rap music on the mp3 player will help you sprint to the finish line....press repeat if needed. 4. Timing is everything, especially with your music.
5. I'm stronger that I think I am.
6. I'm my own worst antagonist.
7. Lightening is the greatest motivator of all! You will move your butt to get across the line before God strikes you dead!
8. I'm pretty sure I can do this again.
9. I'm glad that I challenged myself!

    I just did my 3rd 5k on July 4th. the first 2 I did about 15 years ago! I say "did" because I was clueless as to what I was getting myself into! See, the last 2 times I did a 5k was with a bunch of female co-workers so we just gabbed and walked and walked and gabbed. we'd cross the finish line when we'd cross the finish line. no biggie. but this time was different! I was part of a duathlon relay team that was intermingled with a true triathlon. a duathlon, for those of you who don't know is a 1/2 mile run, 10 mile bike ride and the 5k. my friend did the biking, I did the rest. so here I thought I'd walk it just like I did the other 2 times. boy was I sadly mistaken! everyone else ran laps around me! but I'm happy to report I did not come in last place. third to the last but not last! so if you actually ran it then good for you and you go girl! so I owe it to myself to actually run a 5k this year. not walk but run. ok, mostly run it. so good job and here's to your next 5k!

Today was not too over whelming at work so I actually had some energy leftover for running after I got off from work. I ran 1.5 miles, still working on that c25k thing. I'm behind the others in my class but I am older and I don't want to get frustrated and quit so I'm going at my own little pace.
Currently I'm running 3 minutes and walking two...but I get a little worried because my heart rate monitor says I get too high.....so I slow down. I should stay between 123 and 145...and when I'm running I go to 150 to 170. My resting is 66. I don't seem to be able to get that number down yet....I guess it will eventually.
Tomorrow is when my running club meets...I'm having fun.I guess that's all that matters emoticon

Farm vacation

I just got back from a five day "learning vacation" with my 15 year old son. We spent the past five days on a working farm. Milking cows, feeding chickens, pigs, turkeys, calves...all that fun stuff. I'm tired but it was fun! I got in plenty of core work outs.

I'm a country girl who is stuck living in the city, so this was my way of living a dream.
