Another Year, Another Chance to Break the Circle

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

I have been a member of SparkPeople since 2007. My most productive year was 2008. Since then, I have repeated this circle. January is the time for fresh goals and fresh motivation. I have adopted some good habits but around October each year I seem to forget them. So now it is January and again I find myself at the top of the circle. It is time to remember those habits once more and determine to make this the year I break the cycle one day at a time.

I have done the same. i start strong but loose my motivation as the day goes on. i do have too many mindless behaviors so i tend to make 1 bad decision which will lead to a chain of bad decisions.

Time to Try Again

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

It is not January 1st. It is not my birthday. It is not the first day of Spring. (Or is it?) But, it is time to try again. It has been two years since my last blog entry. In that time I went through another cycle of loss in summer and regain in winter. Each year I try to make things different. Each time I learn something new that builds on the habits already formed. "Two Degree Changes" are working, but more slowly than I had hoped. And what a roller coaster ride! emoticon That is why the cycle has returned to the time to try again.

Breakthrough At Last!

Saturday, May 02, 2009

After 10 months, I have finally broken through the 206.5 plateau! I hit 206.5 back in June 2008 and there I stayed bouncing around. Two weeks ago the scale started to budge in the downward direction. Only a little at first, but this last week it has steadily been dropping. Today, was my weigh in of record. 201.6!

What am I doing differently?

I started being very faithful with my record keeping at the beginning of April. My nutrition chart looked like a mountain range. “I’ll be good tomorrow” became “I’ll be good today” on April 16 (see blog entry). Now my calorie chart looks more like the Flint Hills where I live. The peaks are closer to goal.

Exercise. Two weeks ago I started making an effort to exercise. At least 15 minutes of walking a day. Crunches. I hate them, but they make a difference. I started on Friday last. That way the soreness was reasonable by work on Monday. I have continued for a week now.

Yay! Great work! That is so awesome to hear! I'm so proud of you! What a testimony to making changes and sticking with it!

Seriously - I am doing a little *happy dance* for you!

Its hard to come to terms with whats not working, and make changes. It's inspiring to hear you were able to go from "I'll be good tomorrow", to "I'll be good today".

(and crunches kill me, I swear I'm missing the gene that makes doing crunches possible)

Congratulations! It looks like the changes you made were enough to get the weight dropping again. Good job!

Another New Scale

Sunday, April 26, 2009

emoticonThe new scale we purchased last August has problems. I could weigh myself 3 times in 5 minutes and get three different answers. I was pretty sure that my correct weight was in there somewhere, but I would have to take what I believed to be the correct one. Gee, this sounds very familiar. Isn’t that why we replaced the last one? emoticon

My husband decided it was time for another new scale. I am sure he was tired of hearing about my frustration. This weekend we bought the least expensive digital scale that Wal Mart had, no bells or whistles. It is a different brand than either of the ones we replaced. We will see if this one will be consistent. emoticon

I purchased the $18 Health O Meter basic scale. Actually, it weighs me at about 1 pound less than my other one. The scale I just replaced added about 5.5 lbs. to my weight from my previous one. emoticon It really messes up your numbers and can be very vexing. emoticon

Which one did you get? I bought a $20 one from Wal-Mart a few months ago (and had to up my weight on SP tracker). Its a bit frustrating to have to guess, thats why i replaced my last one too. emoticon

Hopefully this one will be consistent for you!

Garden Beginning!

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

I am so excited that I have to share! Saturday turned out to be a very nice day in North Central Kansas. It was about 67 degrees with a light breeze and NO RAIN! My husband was able to get our garden ready for planting as I cleaned all the garbage out of the flower bed on the South side of the house. My husband increased the size of our garden. I now have a happy delimma. I get to decide how to fill it! This week is supposed to be nice, so I hope to get some early veggies and flowers planted. I want to plant spinach, lettuce, peas, Sweet William, and Cockscomb Celosia.

    Yay for spring! emoticon

May God grant thee
Enough sun to warm the earth,
Enough rain to make things grow,
A good strong back,
A wide brimmed hat,
And a good sharp goose-neck hoe,
Strength for a day of toil
And some quiet evening hours,
With a sip of tea
And a gentle breeze,
And may all your weeds be wildflowers.

Isn't this the best time of year. Gardening and being out in the sun makes me feel so healthy! Can't wait to hear more about your garden.
