long time, no blog

so, it's pretty much been an entire season since i've updated my sparkblog. luckily, my marathon training hasn't been as slacker-ish as my blogging is! the dreaded marathon is just under a month away, and i think i'm staying on track with my running. i did a 20-miler over a week ago, and next sunday i want to do 22 or 23. then i'll taper for two weeks. i had a minor setback when i broke my baby toe (NOT during the run ... a freak car-door-accident later that day) but it hurts a lot less now that it did right after i did it. hopefully it won't hinder me too much from now on.

personal life-wise, my fiance just moved back from hawaii! i went there for four days to help him get ready to move back, and now we're living with my family (sigh) til he gets a job and we can get a place together. good thing my fam's cool :) i've been in celebration mode for about 2 weeks though, so my eating hasn't been the best. i need to get back onto the good food wagon.

i really want to APOLOGIZE to all my sparkbuddies that i've been neglecting to get back to or check up on ... i've been a total hosebeast and i PROMISE to become more visible on here again! thank you to all of you that have wrote on my wall to say hey ... you've sucked me back in, and i thank you for it! have a wonderful week :D

congrats on your marathon, kristin!!! i was so pleased to come back to spark and see all your great pictures! i've been MIA myself (i moved this month and only JUST got settled finally!!), so i need to turn things up a notch.

in this economy, you should milk your parents' generosity for all its worth. put some cash away!!!!!!! i know it may be a tough ride, but reeeeaally take advantage! i stayed home for my first year out of college, and i saved a TON of money... now i'm in better shape than all of my friends who went into finance jobs!! my parents are constantly telling me to move back home. i don't think i could though, because my relationship with my mom is SO much better when we're not under the same roof, haha!

anyhoozle, i hope you are doing wonderfully!! miss you!!

it's been exactly a month since my last blog entry ... no exciting news this time. just a catch-up on what i've been doing lately!

i went to that first personal training class ... decided it's not for me. not that class, anyway. it took two hours, and the one thing they kept stressing is that the rest of the sessions would focus on the best ways to get people to buy personal training from you. i'm totally not a salesperson. i HATE bothering people, trying to get them to buy stuff. so that kind of sucked. i really wanted to learn more about training techniques! i guess it just wasn't the right time and the right class.

the engagement is going well! i'm a little over a month into it :) yeah, my wedding is still two long years away. but i'm totally excited to start planning! i think my colors are going to be azalea pink and green (green's my FAVORITE color!) . dave and i want to get married in milwaukee, and i'm going to look at a few venues tonight and on monday. woot! we're thinking of doing a friday afternoon/evening timeline; ceremony at 4pm-ish, followed by pictures for the wedding party and cocktails for the guests, and then a fun night of dinner and sweet music :) anyone have any tips? i've never done anything like plan a wedding before!

now, onto the marathon training ... i twisted my ankle last sunday and i think i sprained it in the back. i did the elliptical for a few days, and then i did a short 7-mile run yesterday thinking it felt better. it totally swelled up again! i'm taking today and tomorrow off so hopefully i can do another longer run on sunday. we'll see how it feels. i think i'm pretty on-schedule with my long runs though! sweet :D

have a good weekend, everyone!

    Hey lady!

Sounds like things (besides the ankle) are going really great for you. Glad to hear it!

Here's my advice for your wedding: in the initial planning stages, dream as big as you want, as ridiculously unrealistic as you want.. because it's those initial ideas you'll get beautiful, meaningful plans from. Don't let anyone tell you what you want is silly: it's your day. :) Have you checked out They've got lots of great ideas.

    Hi Kristin,

I hope your ankle is better. You have a few months to go before your marathon so you can afford to take a easy week when you get an injury or an illness. you won't loose any of your fitness until after a layoff of 7-10 days, so it's often better to rest, ice, (ten minutes on...ten minutes off...ten minutes on, 2-3 times a day), and heal for 4-5 days and then come back strong and rested.

My name is Bruce Murray and I'm a running coach, marathon runner, and the host of an internet radio show (podcast) on the TalkShoe Network called "The Running Shoe".

Only advice I have is to check out "the knot". You will get tons of ideas there. I only wished I discovered 'before' we got married instead of after.

Best of luck in all your wedding planning - it can be stressful - but man is it ever fun! Especially after your married, so awesome to find your soul mate and plan the rest of your life out with them!

FINALLY-- something for me to READ!!!!!!

so has dave moved back yet? that may explain why you have been MIA a bit ;)

i LOVE your color theme for your wedding! that is one of my favorite color-combos... right after purple and gold (my college colors, hehe)

bummed to hear about the personal training class-- i used to belong to the NYSC, and the trainers there would act friendly to you and strike up a conversation, but then they'd just end up harrassing you to meet with them for a "free session"-- which was always followed by 62,345,286 phone calls and voicemails to set up your NEXT appointment. ick.

ok, i gotta get back to work. RICE that ankle of yours, gal!! ;)

HOLY COW - i'm engaged! :D hooray!

ok, here's what happened: my bf dave was coming home for a short visit to celebrate our 2-year anniversary (he's currently finishing up his last few months of graduate school in honolulu at uh-manoa) on wednesday. i picked him up from the airport at 8am, and when he walked up to see me he was carrying flowers he'd brought with him from hawaii! i was hugging him and saying hello and stuff, and he said, "let's get married." now, we've discussed it before so i just said, "yeah, let's get married!" as in someday :) and then he pulls the ring out of his pocket and says, "no, really. will you marry me?" AAAHHHH i still can't believe it. i was super surprised! it was extra-romantic because our entire relationship has been back and forth between airports, and also because he knew that my favorite place to visit when i was a little girl was the airport :) i love him so much. we're planning on getting married in late summer or early fall of 2010 so we can have time to save, plan and try living in the same time zone for once ;)

and with our whirlwind weekend (he left sunday morning!) i barely had time to work out. now it's back to the grindstone - i've got a marathon to train for!

yippee :D

Wow, so you guys have been in a long distance relationship for a long time. That must be really difficult! And for it to have worked is amazing! If you guys can handle that then you can definitely go in for the long haul!

That's so amazing! I'm really really happy for you! That is so thoughtful how he asked you in the airport!

Oh but beware: when you have him around you all the time, you'll totally sacrifice your workout schedule. I do it for my boyfriend all the time. He hates running :( lol. Is he a vegetarian, too? I am, and my boyfriend LOVES to eat steak all the time. yuck. emoticon

i updated my page a few days ago with pics of my fave brewer this season ... left-fielder Ryan Braun! he's awesome. my old favorite retired last year, and i miss him. sniff ... come back, damian miller!

i had my first personal training class on wednesday; it was pretty much just an informational session to let us know what we'd be covering for the next six weeks. there's no certification at the end of it, but that's okay. i'm just looking at the class as a way to see if i'm even any good at personal training. the class is supposed to help us feel more comfortable instructing others and interacting as a trainer. it also gives tips on how to get people to seek you out as their personal trainer. i'll really need help with that one, because i'm SO not a salesperson. i don't like getting heckled, so i really feel crappy trying to sell stuff to other people. hopefully people will just come to me so i don't have to ask :)

i don't know what to do ... there's another member on sparkpeople whose blog i read that i know has an ED, and frankly it's kind of frightening. i don't want to say anything to that person because i know that probably the last thing she needs is another person nagging her, but it's really worrysome. i don't know her personally, and we've never interacted through spark ... but something tells me that she's not doing well. should i reach out to her? is there a big-time sparkleader that i can tip off? help!

Ugh don't we all fall into that trap? It's like the diet beast takes over and you kinda think, in the back of your head, 'maybe this isn't the way to be doing this....' and you ignore it and keep on. I'd say, reach out to someone if you think they need help! No one ever hated someone for caring.

This is very scary, and I understand how you are having conflicting feelings. I think its so easy for us to get "consumed" by pinching our calories and working out to the max to whip into shape and sometimes it can become on obsession. For everyone it is different. She may not realize what is going on and if you said something it may open her eyes...OR maybe she does need some support...who knows. But I know there are alot of people out there with these issues that are in complete denial and the only way to get over it is through personal therapy, etc. Maybe just send her a message, start talking to her and maybe subtly mention the calorie thing...??? Thats what I would do, that and "tell" a board member right away. This person needs immediate help.

    Hey Kristin,

Speaking from experience, I would say reach out to her in a way that is kind, caring and other words, let her know that she has a friend in you and that you genuinely are worried about her and care. I suffer from an ED, bulimia, and I was working out too much and eating too little a few weeks back. One of my SparkFriends sent me a pm and kindly pointed out that she was worried and that I was going down a bad road. Well I have to admit at first I was a little shocked, even in denial...but I quickly realised that she was right, and honestly I felt cared about and loved that she would do that for me. emoticon That's the beauty of SP! xxx Anna emoticon

I would find a way to make a conversation with her first. Get to know her somehow. If you think she still may have an eating disorder, just ask her about it. If she gets defensive, back off. Since you don't know her personally, there's not much you can do but but just listen to her if she wants to talk about it. I don't know, maybe someone else has better advice.

hello again,

i got an e-mail yesterday telling me that i'd been nominated enough times to become a "sparkpeople motivator!" I CAN'T BELIEVE IT :D what an honor! thank you to the people that nominated me ... it really means a lot to know that i've been some kind of inspiration to other sparkers out there. it's an incredible feeling, and i'm so proud to have the motivator badge on my page!

have a wonderful day!
