My Week in Pictures

Sunday, September 23, 2012

Well, not my entire week. Monday though Friday are work days, so they're pretty much routine.

Except on Wednesday I overworked my Achilles at kickboxing class, limped around on Thursday and was worried that I wouldn't be able to make my Sunday hike.

Friday was exciting 'cause we got to see Endeavor land at LAX. We all climbed up onto the roof of our warehouse building.

Here I am with my sweet co-worker Connie. I've pitched SparkPeople to her several times...

And here she comes...

They flew over four times before they finally landed. A moment in history.

Saturday was chores: Grocery shopping, laundry, etc. etc.
I did make it to the farmers market and picked up a bunch of local fruits and veggies.
emoticon emoticon

My Achilles said it would be okay to hike today. Distance was only 9.5 miles, 2000 feet vertical.

It was beautiful!
Fitbit had me at 20,400 steps and 216 floors :)
A perfect Sunday!

Love all the pictures you have in this blog. What a beautiful area you went hiking in on Sunday.

We had Space Shuttle Discovery fly over our house twice (and my kids' school) last spring. It was very exciting, but also very sad - sad that the shuttle program has been retired.

Great job on your hike.

BLC20: This Panther's 12 Week Plan

Sunday, September 16, 2012

The only full length mirror in my house is a half-blind one on the inside of my linen closet door. It was there when we bought the house some 20 years ago... Before pic here:

I don't sport a 'muffin top' but consider my legs my weakest point. So this is as revealing as I need to be, hehe.
"Strong" legs run in my family and it finally hit home that agonizing over things you cannot change is quite pointless. So instead I choose to tone and strengthen. While I would love to eventually see a 1" reduction (22" to 21"), I refuse to waste my energy on a number.

My 12 week plan:

emoticon Fitness:
I'm a weekend hiker and schedule one hike each weekend, either Saturday or Sunday. I hike with a group and hikes generally range from 8 - 15 miles.
During the week I do Zumba, yoga, kickboxing, and now TNT
emoticon
My fitness plan works for me and I intend to keep it up during this challenge and beyond.

emoticon Food:
Lots of room for improvement here. I do not track my food but am doing well as far as calorie intake is concerned. Nutritional intake, well, that's another story. I'm on a quest to incorporate more veggies and fruits into my day, but am mostly failing.

During the week I brown bag both my breakfast and my lunch. Plan is to plan better and instead of mindlessly throwing something together in a hurry the morning of, spend some time the night before and pack a proper breakfast and lunch.

emoticon Daily steps and general activity level
I find that while I'm extremely active during my scheduled exercise times, I'm extremely lazy the rest of the time.
Okay, I work an office job that has me in front of a computer most of the time. I do make it a point to get up and move around as much as I can.
But during the times that I'm actually at home I find that I spend way too much time being completely inactive (shame on you, Netflix... ha!)

I'm a new fitbit user (had it for under a week), and I see it as a great tool by which to measure my step count, floors climbed, as well as my active score.
Currently my average daily steps come in at around 7,500.

Goal:
Increase average daily steps to 10,000
Daily floors climbed 15
Active score 100%

That's all folks.
300 points for the team.
Go Panthers!

Meal planning and preparation does help a lot to hit the target with fruits and veggies. One snack I like that adds a serving of fruit is .25 cup vanilla Greek yogurt, one diced kiwi, and .25 oz. chopped almonds. Perfect blend of sweet, tart, salty, and crunchy for about 145 calories! emoticon

I remember reading something somewhere that talked about looking at your intake over the whole week, not necessarily just for the day. So you may be under on some days, but over on others. In the long run, it would even out. I know there are some days I just am not in the mood to eat as many fruits and veggies, so it helps that I can "make up" my deficits from the day before.

And I have to agree with the others that you look mahvelous! :)

September Goals: 5-8/30

Sunday, September 09, 2012

Already wimped out on my "salad a day" goal. I'm 3/8 on that.
I am, however, not abandoning this goal and will do the best that I can.
I'm still eating fruits and veggies, but again not nearly enough.

Haven't had to toss anything gone bad yet this month, so that's a good thing.

No spectacular hike today: Just my 8-mile Saturday morning routine hike in the OC. It doesn't always have to be crazy.

Still recovering from a killer kickboxing class which I took on Wednesday. DOMS, oh DOMS, I'm still sore today. Needless to say, I'll be taking that class again next Wednesday and the Wednesday after that... This class kicks butt.

Enjoy your weekend, everybody.

After you mentioned your goal to eat more salad, it's been niggling in the back of my brain. So, I bought a bunch of lettuce and sunflower seeds and am eating one huge salad every day (on day three of that). Thanks for planting the seed!

I hope you enjoyed your kickboxing class again this week :)
