As a pear-shaped individual I wear my weight below my waist, so even being "only" 30-40 lbs overweight brings with it a big butt and 'thunder thighs'.
(Thank you, ex-mother-in-law, for putting this in my head more than 25 years ago.)
Sticks and stones... wrong! Words can hurt more.
Even after I had lost this weight I remember that I'd often look at myself in the mirror from behind, especially when I was in tights, going to the gym, to see how big that butt still was. During gym class I would wonder how I looked to those working out behind me. (Chances are they couldn't have cared less and never even noticed me, but our mind does stupid things at times.)
I do consider myself a rational and generally level headed person, so this excessive worry seems strange, even to me, but I guess, you can't jump out of your skin.
It's been about 10 years now that I've been exercising consistently, all along reshaping my body. Yes, over a long period of time, exercise does wonders.
Guess it kind of snuck up on me and I don't recall when it happened exactly, but being on the trail today I realized that I haven't spent any thoughts about how I looked from behind in quite some time now; not at the gym and not anywhere.
Building new confidence takes time too. I wonder if getting older aides in that process also?
Here is what I saw on my hike today. At least initially. We actually hiked through the fog and there was sunshine at the top.
And this is how much fun we had.
Have a wonderful weekend y'all.

of the green smoothie drinkers.
Still experimenting, but my favorite concoction so far is almond milk, spinach, mango, protein powder, oats, ground flax, and chia seeds.
As green as it looks, you really can't taste the spinach.

After my 2-day hiking weekend last weekend I decided that this week I would do no workouts whatsoever. With the 4th of July breaking up the week I thought this would be the perfect week to be lazy.
Well, tonight I found myself at the gym.
I just cannot NOT work out. It's impossible!
Being active in that way adds so much quality to my life and I realize it truly has become part of who I am.
For those of you who are struggling with this concept, who are struggling getting even your daily 10 minutes in, be patient. But at the same time, consider your choices. Hate the treadmill, go for a run instead. Hate running, go for a swim. Hate swimming, go for a bike ride. Hate bike riding, do some yoga or Pilates. Hate that go Zumba. Hate Zumba, play soccer. You get the idea.
Trick is to find yours. Mix it up and make it fun.
It'll grow on you, I promise.
Have a wonderful 4th y'all.

Marvelous weekend, marvelous weather.
Yesterday's 7.3 mile hike started out in thick fog. However after about an hour the fog had burned off and the foggy hike turned into a sunny hike.
Today's 10 mile hike already started out in the sun. This was a hike in the coastal backcountry. Amazingly we had about 1900 feet elevation gain. Being fairly close to the ocean helped keep the temperature tolerable. Downside to these coastal hikes is that there is no shade.
I'll have to stick to the shadier hikes during the summer and maybe pick up the coastal hikes again come fall.
Well, weekend playtime is over. Looking forward to a break in the work week next week for 4th of July. No hike planned that day. I'll be puttering around in my back yard. Building my backyard oasis :) Lots of TLC needed there.
