Update on 10+ a day - and - if you want to get loose - Zumba

Day 23:
In reality my quest for 10+ a day has turned into 10+ a day minus Friday.
This means that I have successfully added some kind of athletic activity on both weekend days. This is progress!

I do most of my workouts at the gym. Love going to the gym!
As of late I have discovered Zumba.

Yes, it's been around for a while, but I've never really considered it, 'cause, let's face it, this Gringo is not very flexible when it comes to dance moves.

A couple of weeks ago though my curiosity finally got the better of me, and now I'm hooked!

I was surprised to find out that it's not just cha-cha and rumba and swinging hips. It's actually quite challenging and you sweat like a s@b. Great cardio workout!

As for the swinging hips part - I've discovered that I probably don't look any more ridiculous than most everybody else in the class and I expect to be able to loosen up even more over time. Use it or lose it, baby!

Overall, I am declaring my challenge to myself as successful and going forward will continue my streak of "10+ a day minus Friday".

    Zumba is so much fun. You don't realize how hard you are really working while you are dancing. I'm glad that you are enjoying it!

    I have thought about trying Zumba, but I am SO NOT coordinated, I know I'd just get frustrated and mad! My schedule's never consistent, either, so I miss out on a lot of class-like things. I am so glad you liked it and are enjoying the heck out of it! emoticon

    Congrats on finding something that has your interest in working out---Zumba. I found out ecently that the Y I go to has started Zumba. I'm a thinking I may have to get my butt to one of the classess and check it out, maybe I'll see if my friend that goes there would care to join me---then I won't be the only new stumbbler in the group.

I heart Mondays :) I really do.

On Mondays I don't go into work until around noon, so I have the morning off. That's when I take a really cool cardio kickboxing class. 60 minutes of pure torture! I love it!

So today, keeping my streak going was easy.

Building a new streak - 10+ minutes a day: Day 3

Today I finally got enough veggies and fruits in to call it healthy. Overall I wasn't really hungry today, so I made sure that what I ate was nutritious.

I also kept my exercise streak alive: 10 minutes.

Overall my mood was a little bit sluggish this weekend. I expect that to improve come tomorrow when I resume my weekday activities. Looking forward to it.

I honestly contemplated breaking my new streak today; yes, on day 2!

Wow, looks like I'll need some serious practice getting out of my weekend slumps.

When did my weekends start being sooo passive? When did I start being so boring? Crazy how things sneak up on you. I really need to get a life!

We went to the movies today. Saw the last Harry Potter. DD has always been a big fan. The books started coming out just around the time she learned to read. She is now 21.

And yes, I changed my mind about breaking my streak. I did 10 minutes abs and legs tonight. That's all I could muster, but it's enough to keep it going.

    Unless, we are really ill, I think most of us can doSOME kind of exercise for 10 minutes. It we don't we just don't want to. It's a Choice.

    One thing that helps me is having a time scheduled for exercise. I don't make plans and the time is pretty immovable. It seems silly to schedule 10 minutes, but it helps me build it into my day. Also, when you're doing "something else", it makes you sort of realize that you're probably not doing the right thing.

Building a new streak - Day 1

Exercise performed daily will string together this new streak.

My most challenging days are Friday (very long work day), but also Saturday and Sunday, when I usually have no pressing engagements and plenty of free time on my hands, which I certainly don't spend favorably most of the time.

So my 10 minutes a day every day, no matter what, has a hidden agenda. On the weekends it is designed to get me off my couch and get moving.

Habits and routines are funny things, as we operate without giving these much thought.

Building a new habit takes awareness, presence of mind.

In this context I almost forgot about my new commitment when I came home last night. Just went about the usual; then remembered around bedtime that I still had 10 exercise minutes scheduled.

Ended up doing a quick strength routine.
Day 1: 15 minutes.

    Proud for you. I know weekends for me tend to be lazy also. Not yesterday. I got in 80 min. I took the dogs for a much needed walk and got some time on my bike in the morning. Really it helped me stay on track. Now for today.
