I signed up for some yoga classes today

Yes, I said I've never done yoga and that I wanted to try. So I signed up for a couple of classes at the Community College. First class is in two weeks. I'm very curious.

My day went well. I survived the church picnic. It was the usual fare: burgers, hot dogs, apple pie. So, I only had a couple of cups of coffee there and ate lunch when I got home. Neither burgers nor hot dogs sounded good.

I tracked all my food today & easily stayed within my range.
Also managed to get a 40 minute walk in. Nobody should work too hard on a Sunday :)

Tomorrow's lunch is brown-bagged and in the fridge, ready to grab in the morning. I love it, when I'm organized and motivated.

    I'm proud of you for taking steps towards your goals. Now if only I could do that. Not eating at the church picnic? awesome. i myself walked 45 min. and called it a day. Sunday's are suppose to be a day of rest. Now today back to it.

    Will be interested to hear about your yoga experience. I enjoy some of it, but it's always something I kind of put on the back burner when sports, running or other outdoor activities come up. I wonder if I'll find more time for it in the winter.

  sounds like you had a great day! i hope you enjoy the yoga i love it it is good exercise especially if you have bad joints or just don't do well with aerobic type exercise it also helps your flexibility and strengths the long lean muscles in your body to make you look longer and leaner it is also good for your mind to help you focus in life. good luck with it,

It's time to tweak it - some more - again

During August I have increased my activity minutes by adding a 50 minute walk 4 days a week. I also did 25 days of the 30 Day Shred. (The last 5 will not get done this month.) In order to fit it all in I reduced my power tae aerobics to twice weekly. So far this month I've logged 1620 activity minutes.

I had also decided that during August I would not track my food. While I have managed to maintain, the past few days especially, I've been feeling like I'm afloat, drifting.

You know how it goes, you start strong, and without sufficient oversight and accountability, things start going by the wayside. Slowly at first, but progressively faster.

The month is not quite over, but since Sunday is the beginning of the SparkWeek (I still argue that any week should start on Monday, but oh well), my new action plan is going into effect immediately. Actually, I started it today.

1 - I will track my food again (calories, carbs, fats & protein. Nothing else.) Keeping it simple.

2 - I put my tracker on line for added accountability. (Boy, that was a huge debate!)

3 - I will continue with my 50 minute walks (2x 25 minutes to and from work) Monday thru Thursday.

4 - I'll restart the 30 Day Shred but only on non-power tae days and NEVER on Fridays (those are my long work days and they are absolutely useless as far as exercise is concerned). Actually, not true all together, I have managed to squeeze in a brief lunch walk, but never more than 30 minutes.

5 - I'll continue with twice weekly power tae aerobics.

6- Continued focus will also be on less couch time and more active time overall.

7 - I'll summarize daily via blog.

As for oversight and accountability - that's you, guys!

    Kricket, your new planning seems ambitious and doable, glad to see you planned for no major workouts for Fridays with your hectic work schedule on that day. Remember, 30 minute walks also count, so be happy about them when you can slip one in at lunchtime.

    my understanding is that european calendars start on Monday... surprised they don't have a setting to that effect - but not sure how the week's start day much matters in using spark.

Changing up the plan whenever required, and tracking is never a bad choice. Sure you'll get it done!

    I'm with you all the way. I started fresh saturday as that is my ww new week beginning. Again not monday but a beginning none the less. I need to get myself back on track or all this will be for naught. We can do this and we will do this. You have a great plan. I'm with you on this journey and together we can move mountains. The Spark website has not been cooperating well this week. Last night I could not log on at all. I wonder if they have growing pains. They go all out by advertising and then their servers can't handle the traffic, or what? In any case, it's annoying. I only have a small window every day that I spend on the computer and if then I can't do what I set out to do, that really sucks. emoticon

And another complaint - there are days when I exceed 120 activity minutes, yet, they only credit you for max. 120. That stinks, too.
And I don't count housework, yard work, etc. as activity minutes, just actual scheduled strength and cardio. And I'm thinking, if I put in the time, I should receive credit for ALL of it.

Complain, complain! It must be the heat! Yes, summer finally got here and it's hot!

On a positive note, yes, I'm humming along just fine.
My weight is stable (I'm not tracking food this month).
I'm two days away from switching to level 3 on the 30 Day Shred. That will be on Saturday. I previewed this level today and I think it will kill me. Looking forward to it. emoticon

    Glad you're doing well without tracking! I would fall apart.

And the 120 min thing can be annoying - I haven't worked out like that in a while, but I used to and know what you mean - I can only assume it's to rein in people who have waitress jobs or "play with kids" all day and count it as cardio rather than changing their base activity level.

    I have been having a lot of trouble with SP also lately. But I can put in as many minutes as I want for exercise. Some days I know I have had over 300 minutes and it takes them. Different activities of course.

    Remember when level 2 was hard? Now, not a huge deal.

SP was indeed sucking yesterday (and maybe even today). I don't necessarily think its them, it is likely the people that are serving up the ads.

Glad to hear you can maintain without tracking. I'm not sure I could with any degree of accuracy.

No, I didn't lose 10 lbs overnight emoticon, but today I had the best day in a long time.

I woke up at 4:00 am to the beeping of the fire alarm (why oh why do these things always run out of juice in the middle of the night?!?). Had to scramble downstairs to find a battery, because, yes it's true, they still keep beeping even if you take the old battery out! emoticon And throwing it over the fence into my neighbor's yard would have been rude :)

After that little adventure I was not surprised that I woke up with a headache a couple of hours later. That luckily was remedied with a cup of coffee.

I digress.

After breakfast and java and a short time on the computer I couldn't sit still any more and decided to go work in the yard for a little while. Well, I spent almost 4 hours, cutting, clipping, sweeping, mowing, raking, weeding (and sweating...).

My energy was boundless and I really enjoyed the work. Gardening used to be my hobby, but in recent years took a back seat. There just never was enough energy...

What changed? Certainly not my situation. So I figure it must be connected with my August program tweaks. But since I added more than one variable (getting myself out of rush hour traffic, walking, 30 Day Shred) of course I can't pinpoint if it's one, the other, or any combination.

Whew, and for the past few years I thought I was getting old and boring...

Well, I'll continue doing what I'm doing and I'm looking forward to a lot more high energy days.

    Gotta love those days when energy seems limitless! I experience a few more of those myself recently also. Again, hard to pinpoint on a program, reaching a new threshold of fitness... whatever! Just enjoy the ride!

    Don't you love the new you coming out. I myself washed my car by hand, got some shopping done, stripped the beds, you know the routine. I also got in a great walk and swim. Movement begets movement. Now for the movement on the scales finally. lol. Michelle.

August program: JM, 30 Day Shred, Level 2, Day 1

Today I am 11 days into the 30 Day Shred and I started on level 2.
There is much room for improvement... she kicked my butt again!

I also increased my hand weights (from 3 lbs to 5 lbs - NOBODY laugh!!! - that's all my spider arms can handle right now).

August seems to be settling in a bit now.

My drive/train/walk commute is feeling more familiar. After trying out different walking routes I have found the one most enjoyable to me. Now mind you, we're not talking scenic route here. I actually have to cross underneath the flight path of the incoming aircraft (yes, I work near the airport). Nothing like an incoming 747 right overhead.

(Okay, so this is an Airbus, but anyway...)

My main focus this month is moving more and sitting less and I do feel more energetic. (I'm logging 460 activity minutes per week.)

I'm not logging food this month, but I do count my calories throughout the day - roughly. No obsessing over macros and other stuff.

Not sure yet if this is something that will haunt me come the end of the month.
I know, I know, some cannot comprehend this mindset :)
I'm just being my pigheaded self.

    Don't see anything wrong with adding a little weight. There are plenty of exercises where I only use 5 pounds, sometimes 2.5 pounds in each hand. Whatever provides intensity for you. Just so long as it is challenging. If it's boring and doesn't beat your butt, you're just doing cardio.

Good luck on the not tracking thing. I can't do it. I think I can roughly eyeball, but I'm usually low when I estimate the calories on something. Monitoring tight macro ratios is slowly falling out of favor with me as well. I wouldn't say I'm done tracking them or paying attention to them, but they vary a lot more in future than they did in the past.
