This year is probably not going to end with me below 200 lbs. as I had originally planned, but I still want to keep track of my weekly fluctuations (for reasons that I'll explain later). Being a bit OCD, I like to have everything in one place, so I'm starting this post and will edit it from week to week.

Goodbye Slim in 6, fare thee well 17 Day Diet. Walking will continue, but more strenuous weight loss efforts would hopefully prove futile at this point. Definitely not worrying about that pesky 1.5 lbs that came back over my birthday. I'm not throwing in the towel, just... taking a hiatus for a few months. I'm not spreading the news at this point, but I'm registering for one of SparkPeople's sister sites - time for a change in nutrition!

So, the Activate Cycle is supposed to counteract the body's tendency to go on red alert and enact famine-condition responses, resetting your metabolism by kicking the calories back up just a notch and reintroducing a few more complex carbs.
Sounds great, right? Well... It's a little more involved, because you can only have stuff off the new food list om alternating days. Stuff from the first food list is fine any day, of course, but by this point, I'm kind of tired of it. ~_~ (And the 17 Day Diet Cookbook doesn't come out until the end of next month.) The theory is based on Alternate Day Fasting, which is supposed to keep your metabolism revved and raring to go by alternating lower calorie days with higher calorie days. Not sure how well that's going to pay off coming off my "birthday binge" (which, in my defense, was pretty low-key as far as binges go), but there's no way on God's green earth I'm going to "start over" again at this point. I plan to follow the next two cycles all the way through before heading back to the Accelerate cycle! Also not sure how that's going to work out with the fact that I'm trying to stay between 1200 and 1500 kcal on all days. Worst case scenario, I'm wasting my time. Best case scenario, I'll lose some weight in the meanwhile.
Oh, and these vaunted complex carbs they're so graciously adding back in? Two servings a day. Oooh, so extravagant!
Beef, glorious beef! Lean cuts only, of course, but hey. Also lean pork, and lamb (which I don't eat because of the whole prion thing) and veal (which I don't eat because of the cruelty involved).
For the starches, we have brown rice, couscous (which I've been meaning to try), steel-cut oats (which are boring without anything to dress them up), quinoa (which I cooked once and didn't find impressive), a slew of legumes including black beans, black-eyed peas, baby limas, butter beans, pinto beans and lentils. Then there's the easy/appealing stuff like corn, sweet potato and winter squashes. I find it odd that winter squash reenters the scene before summer squash and zucchini.
Anyway, the whole day-switching thing has me feeling a little ADHD, and I'm starting to wonder if the modifications I've made to the plan are fixing it so that it just won't work. Since I refuse to put myself in the starvation-mode danger zone by consuming far fewer calories than every reasonable source tells me I should, it's kind of a moot point, but it's pretty frustrating.

Well, having been sick this week and with a birthday to boot, things didn't go the way I would like.
I took the week off from exercise to give my feet a chance to rest, and while they're feeling a bit better I have the distinct impression that I need to get different insoles for my new shoes if I'm going to start walking again tomorrow.
I had a grand scheme to do fondue with my family for my birthday so that I could get the celebrating out of the way with one manageable meal, but with so many sickies (starting with my dad, then me, then my sister) we ended up going to a hibachi restaurant ON my birthday and then doing the fondue on Saturday. Add in the internet outages from Wednesday to today, I fell behind on my food logging.
With the whining over, it's time to be back on the wagon, so here I am. Eight weeks to go. The scale went up this morning, but I'm confident that what came back will go away again pretty quickly. Here's hoping it'll take some additional weight with it when it goes.
Oh, and I'm officially moving on to the Activate phase of the 17-day diet plan. Hellooo beef!

Okay, so I'm not doing well tracking my week-to-week progress on here.
I've been doing pretty well with consistency on food tracking, exercise, and staying in my calorie range.
I made it through three weeks of Slim in 6! Yay! Today was my first day of Burn-it-Up! Aaand...
I have somehow injured my FEET. They hurt when I walk, and at this point I can't pick them up and put them down as rapidly and with as much force as Burn-it-Up entails. So, I plan to take it easy for the rest of this week. If my feet start to feel better I may pick up a couple of two-mile walks later in the week, but I think it's time to be smart about this and not risk a major injury. I'm very disappointed.
