Despite health issues, I'm still at it

Have had some setbacks but am doing the right things and making some gains in terms of my health. Looks like my weight should start going down again. Per my nutritionist I had to adjust my calorie intake up and now, it's helping me to lost a couple pounds here and there. With my knee doing better, I am back exercising again at a slow pace and hope to improve from that point on.

    So I just had a consultation with my doctor this week, and things are looking pretty good. He mentioned a possible medication that would help speed up my weight loss but it requires a daily injection and I'm not a big fan of that. I told him let's continue making other changes to my thyroid Rx as I am fine with my diet to date. It is true my wight has stabilized again but plateaus are normal, and I'm just getting more active the past couple weeks (After having a cold) so it's too soon to tell. Another month or two and I can reconsider then. Maybe I'll just cut back a hundred calories or so and see what happens.

Been away for a while but still working on my goals

Last week was a blur because my 94 year old mother passed away. It was expected in that she had decling health issues and there was a problem during the previous two weeks but she's not suffering now; got to live & die on her own terms so I am doing okay.

I went to the doctor on Monday and he is pleased that since I last saw him I lost 15 pounds (I've lost 20 since starting over with SP) and have kept it off. He has adjusted my meds for thyroid again and is very sympathetic that the insomnia is still my biggest problem. However, my other numbers look good so we are going in the right direction and already the new dosage of melatonin and taking it sublingually is helping with the sleep. At least I can go back to sleep again consistently. emoticon

Am looking forward to getting active again on the forums, and just began a Facebook account, too. Hope to hear back from some of you.

    So sorry about the loss of your beloved Mother. That's a hard one.

Glad your check up went well! The only thing I hate about thyroid med adjustment (I had to have mine adjusted, too, as I've lost weight AND the weather gets colder) is my hair is ver unhappy. At least the loss has FINALLY slowed down now.

Anyway, sorry for your loss and glad you're doing better.

Struggling a bit

HAving a lot o stress and lack of time at work so am not feeling like exercise and I really need it. Went to a weight management course thru employer on Friday and got new motivation so I must do more, and in fact, began doing some simple things at home. Hop to begin walking regularly at lunch again in the next week, and will commit to working out three day a week after work.

    Isn't ironic that the times we need exercise most are the times it is hardest to accomplish? Looks like you have a good action plan to become active again.

    Just the fact that you wrote about it is moving your thoughts in the direction of taking action. Let it be baby steps. 10 minutes of telling yourself you are not going to sit. If you just stand....it will lead to your wanting to walk. Anything you can do is in the right frame of mind and direction.

It will de-stress you in those moments when you get up and move away from the stressful work.

You can go this. Never give up. Never give up. Simple little things turn into bigger and bigger accomplishments. Wipe the counters. Wash the dishes. Sweep the floor. Done over the course of an evening - the job gets done. Don't look at the big picture when you are stressed as these images can overwhelm. My friend always tells me, "Linda the way you eat the elephant is one bite at a time." I always thought that was a weird analogy...I mean like who wants to eat an elephant....but I got his point. One bite at a time. One step at a time and before you know it you have done a lot of good things to make life better.

    It can be rough to struggle through patches of stress and time crunches, but amazingly enough, getting even a little bit of exercise during these patches actually helps you feel LESS stressed and your time just sort of sorts itself out.

Even if you can fit in 10 minutes to walk, this will keep you motivated. Good luck! emoticon

Starting again

emoticon Spring is upon us and I have decided to start over because although Spark People helped me a lot in the past, my motivation declined. So now I am back in this for the long haul. My health is too important to ignore and I have made a good (new) beginning. Have been doing this for three weeks and am feeling much better. Surprisingly, I haven't been missing the junk food at all. Once my body knew I would feed it well - and healthy - the cravings have disappeared. What a relief! And my sleep quality is improving, too. Each day now and going forward will be a good one. 4/7/09 emoticon

Lack of sleep

My issue is more like a lack of sleep because my body doesn't stay asleep without a lot of help. I need to pursue some natural tricks like taking melatonin and looking into natural remedies for low thyroid.
I think I will visit the library and determine what research I can do on my own to find help and answers.
