25 Random Notes

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Once you've read this, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. I want to get to know you better.

1. I married a wonderful man who is eleven years older than me. Recently I found out that my maternal grandparents are eleven years apart. Interesting.

2. My son in law, is a year older than me and I never let him forget it!

3. I want to connect with old friends but am self conscious about my weight and it holds me back.

4. When I was growing up my parents and friends thought is was great fun to give me rocks for Christmas, Halloween, etc. I thought it was annoying but I kept several of them over the years. How funny that I now work for a rock company and many of those rocks have a proud place on my desk at work!

5. I am a huge gamer. Many people think I missed my calling, sometimes I do too. But I enjoy what I do....HR. Would it be sick to admit I REALLY like dealing with the people problems?

6. My sister, Kathy and I hated each other growing up. We had a running bit that we could beat each other up. We never acted on it but we talked BIG. Now we are so close, it's a little hard to believe.

7. I am expecting another grandson in July....Noah Lee. I'm excited.

8. I am far from athletic. I still remember a friend carrying me off a Volleyball court at a choir retreat in college. He thought he was so funny!

9. I love to go camping. Will and I enjoy walking at Lake Herman and we do it often.

10. I am a grandma to 5 great kids. Cody, Brianna, Ethan, Danica, and Aubrey. I love them all. They are such a kick! They can talk grandma into anything and I wouldn't have it any other way.

11. I love to sing. I used to dream about having my own band. Now I just settle for singing for churches.

12. Someday I want to go to Niagara Falls. I saw the Grand Canyon a couple of years ago and I want to see all the US has to offer.

13. My brother Lee is in Iraq and I am not happy about it. Nobody asked for my permission.

14. I love to read. I am big into Kathy Reichs. Awesome writer.

15. I have two nieces and one nephew, who are going to medical school. I'm set! Now I need a dentist!

16. I have a sister in law that calls me a bitch, and it really is a term of endearment. I love her to death.

17. My dad shot himself about 5 years ago. It was the most horrible experience I have ever been through in my life. He survived but he will never be the same. There is nothing in this world bad enough to do that. That is why they make "happy pills."

18. Will and I met in January and married in June of 1989. We are a perfect compliment.

19. I still have my 5 foot bugs bunny that people used to steal and dress in college. He hasn't had a wrestling uniform on since then. I still have nightmares thinking about it.

20. I had a car accident with my Volkswagen back in 1987-88? I went through a fence but didn't hurt the fence. I had to flag down help so I could find my way out of the pasture. The cows were watching every move I made. My friend Mike had to listen to my folks complain about the incident. I had a few interesting situations in that bug. I wish I had it now! It used to cost me $5 in gas every two weeks.

21. I am absolutely fascinated by my IPod touch.

22. I love African Violets.

23. I want at least 3 more grand children.

24. I want to get remarried in our church.

25. I want to lose this weight yesterday.....yep the last one was a little over the top!!!

Remember......I want to see your list!!!

Losing sight of beautiful...........

Monday, March 15, 2010

If I asked you why you want to lose weight.............what would you tell me?

1. I want to be healthy.
2. I want to have more energy.
3. I want to take less pills.
4. I want to do .......(insert here).

But what about the obvious reason......the one you don't want to admit to anyone out loud.......I want to be beautiful again.

Now I'm a true believer that beauty starts from within. And everyone is beautiful in their own way. I think it is important that we tell ourselves that everyday......

How can we do that?

With words.....with music.......with pictures.......what do you think? Let's let everyone know how beautiful they are this week. Here are some ideas to help remind people that they are beautiful.....

Beautiful.... Christina Aguilara
Isn't she lovely.....Stevie Wonder
You're beautiful.......James Blunt
Pretty Woman......Roy Orbison
Don't you know your beautiful?.......Kellie Pickler
You are so beautiful.......Joe Cocker

"You look marvelous!"
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
"Beauty is as beauty does."

What ideas do you have????

Sincere compliments help to make people feel beautiful.

"Kerri, I love your dazzling smile. It makes me want to get to know you better."

"If we were all Easter Eggs, you'd be the one with the brightest color and sparkles!"

Once again - I love the blog. The pictures are so good! Love that one with the guy of all the piercings!

Anyway - you are right on. The real reason I want to lose the weight is so that all the ladies hit on me - oh wait - they never hit on me in the first place! Now I have to think of something else!!

Seriously one of the reasons is so I look better. Now what song can I come up with? How about "She's an ordinary kind of girl but she gives a special kind of love to me" by Andy Kim (wasn't a big hit).

Take care!

Precious - Not just a girl from Harlem

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

If you have every read any of my blogs you have probably noticed that I have this strange way of turning things that I'm thinking about into an article about our weight loss journey. Well, today is going to be no different.

I wrote a quick blog yesterday about the movie "Precious". I have been thinking about "Precious" a lot. As I was driving to work yesterday....I was listening to Sirius radio and they were talking about the Oscar's and how the girl who played Precious was there and that they had a special spot for her at the end of a row. They thought this was because she was so huge that she couldn't fit into the regular chairs.

I don't want to get into who "they" are because "they" are not important to this discussion. I felt bad when I heard this tho. I doubt that there are many people out there who "choose" to be a plus size person.

And it is astounding to me how shallow people can be to insinuate that plus size people are lesser beings and less desirable in the world.

"They" talked about how Oprah came out and said what a wonderful career she was going to have and that "they" thought this was a lie because she is so fat, no one would hire her again. Little did they know she has already done two films since.

Well, anyway......back to the point I wanted to make. ...

Precious.........we are precious in his sight.......isn't she/he just precious?

The one thing that "they" will never understand is that it really doesn't matter what anyone looks like on the outside. What matters is the inside. We can all be Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt on the outside......but if you don't have the substance on the inside.........forget it.

We lose weight to be the healthiest we can be......but I have yet to meet a Spark person who wasn't precious. And I'm blessed! I feel sorry for "they" as they will never understand "Precious".

I agree with you completely. I love sporting the proverbs 31 verse on my posts- it sets the standard for true beauty:
Charm is decietful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.... That is in proverbs 31.... That well known spot that uplifts every woman!

True beauty comes from the inside, and our walk with God... We are truly precious in Gods sight... For sure!

God bless ya-

I watched the movie "Precious" tonight....all I can say is "Wow". That was truly a moving movie. The acting was superb!! And what a story.

If you haven't heard of it....it's about a 16 year old girl growing up in Harlem. She is pregnant with her second child after being raped by her father both times. Her mother is awful to her and she gets kicked out of school for being pregnant.

I won't tell you anymore but this movie is worth your time. I HAVE NO WORDS........hard to believe....I know.

OMG this movie is brilliant! So glad Mo'Nique has been receiving all of the awards she deserves but I think that Gabourey Sidibe should have won the Oscar for best actress. Nothing against Sandra Bullock (I do love her as well) but considering this was Gabourey's first film and the character that she had to portray....Lord, she's great.

It's all about gas.........

Friday, March 05, 2010

I knew that would get your attention!

But it's not what you think......or is it......

Are we what we eat?

What is food anyway?

It's fuel for our bodies. That is what it is...... in it's simplest form.

I'm the first to admit that there are foods that I LOVE that I shouldn't have........PIZZA for one.. Now I do not wish that I was from the pioneer days but they didn't have the distractions we have today. The pizza......the candies.....the ice cream creations. Now you could say that they were missing out. But I think we got lead down the rabbit hole.

They focused on whole foods....things they grew and hunted for themselves. This was the proper fuel to get them through the hard life they lead. And when they got treats.....they were apples, oranges, and apple pie!!

That's what we need to focus on......real foods....the proper fuel and an active life.

Actually, I am a little envious of pioneers. My grandma always used to talk about how much better chicken tasted when she had it growing up on a farm. She said if she go go back and re-live anything, it would be one of the home grown, roasted chickens. And I believe it! Home grown tomatoes and about 1000X yummier than the ones in the grocery store.

But maybe that's why we turn to processed foods? Maybe whole foods tasted better back then than they do now?

Great blog!

Wow Keri - you do come up with the best blogs! I love the way you weave your message in with the pictures and your point is always a good one!

I agree that our forefathers ate better only because they had no choice - this processed food is not the best way to go. I'm convinced of that but we sure get sucked in with how easy it makes our life but at what price in the long run?

Thanks for the blog (and glad you're feeling better)
