Here's what I'm gonna do :)

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Ok, the last 2 days sucked because I overate. the day before yesterday i had a calorie surplus of 1570 kcal, yesterday I tried to make up for it, but I only made a calorie deficit of 25kcal..........

I've constantly been overeating in the last 2 days, and I just realised why!! There was no soup at home at all in these 2 days!!!!!!!
See, if there's no soup at home, then there only are foods that are higher in calories, and i can't go a whole day with those, because I can only eat little of them, and that makes me hungry...and I can't take hunger at all. Soup was a great thing, because it is soooooo low in calories (at least the ones that my family makes) and after eating one or one-and-a-half plates I feel like I'm full, and I only consumed 150-200 kcal. Can you imagine how great that is??? And yes, it doesn't keep me full for as long time as other, more solid foods, but it's only 150-200 kcal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I eat soup 3 times a day, that's only 600 kcal, and honestly, eating soup 3 times a day plus one solid meal would totally be enough for me for a day, and I wouldn't feel that i'm hungry or I crave something. And I love soup!!! So, I'm making soup today! I'm tired of overeating but if I'm hungry I can't keep myself from eating...and since only higher-calorie foods are in the house if there's no soup, then this means that i consume much more calroeis than i should.
I'm glad I realised this and I'm willing to cook myself soup every time I need to!

* Yeah, I deal with the same thing when I run out of Oatmeal and whole grain cereal. Enjoy your soup!

I'm with you on the soup - DELISH!! Progresso makes some really low-cal good ones. The Southwestern style vegetable is 120 cals, the minestrone is 180 and they are both really good. I eat them all the time.

Yesterdays huuuuuge mistake and what I've done about it today!

Friday, March 12, 2010

i went crazy yesterday!
I ate 3470 kcal, instead of about 1600. I burned 150 kcal instead of 600. It was horrible! I woke up veeeeeeeery early yesterday, about 4 hours before I usually do, I ate breakfast and lunch and snack 4 hrs earlier because of this, and of course I felt hungry at 3 in the afternoon, although I only had some light dinner and a little snack left if i wanted to stay in my calorie range. At 3!!!! in the afternoon! So, I did what was the worst: started eating everything, I craved everything, I felt like I want to taste all the things we've got at home, so I ended up at 3470 kcal at the end of the day. I even had a beer, which I never do! :))
Anyway, I decided not to worry about this, because first of all I can't change it anymore, and second, if I worry, I'll feel bad, I'll get angry, and I'll do the same thing today too. So I stayed calm and decided that I'm gonna try to do today something that would make up for at least a part of yesterday's extra calories. So I went on a walk, I walked 12,5 kms, for 2 hrs 20 min, and I burned 600 kcal. The great thing about walking is that it doesn't make you exhausted like jogging or other intensive cardio exercises. the bad thing about it is that it takes more time, and it might get boring, especially if you walk alone, like I did today, and you've got no mp3 player. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't bored today, mainly because I've never been to the places before that I walked through today, but I know that, for the 10th time, alone, without music, it will be boring.
I didn't want to jog because lately my legs hurt very much during jogging, I think they don't like my weight either :), so biking, walking and swimming are my options for the next few days. I will jog again in a few days, but not until I feel that my legs don't hurt anymore if I start jogging.
An other thing is that the day before yesterday, I had a calorie deficit of 1100+ (I did a lot of exercising) and maybe my body was really missing fuel, and that's why I craved everything...but the fact that I woke up really early didn't help either.

Oh, my bike's wheel is bad, so I can't go biking unless I buy new ones, which I have no idea when will happen, because of money issues, and I can't go swimming until I buy that special hat for swimmers, which again, i don't know when will be, so...yeah...I'm gonna walk. :)

Well, this is a stupid blog, but anyway, I just wanted to write down all this, especially for myself. :)
Take care everyone, :)
Lilla

I put a brief "confessional" on my blog today, too. Sounds like we both fell off the wagon yesterday, but it was only one day ... and we need to stand up & dust ourselves off. Today is a new day!! emoticon

My success! :) Finally! :)

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Hi everyone! :)
After several days of hard work and disappointing numbers on the scale, today my hard work finally payed off! I lost 1 pound! :) Now I know that's just 1 pound but probably many of you know how hard it is to start exercising, eating less and not eating specific things, drinking much more water than you did before, tracking EVERYTHING you eat, etc, etc, etc. I'm doing all these and I'm very active on SP (which I love doing by the way) BUT nothing happened for almost 2 weeks, and it bothered me very much.
But now, finally, I realised that I wasn't doing everything right.
For example, I calculated my BMR (amount of calories I should consume daily to just 'stay on level') and calculated how much I should exercise and how many calories I should cut from food to lose the amount of weight I want to lose in each month. So, all in all, it's a good plan, but I had three problems:

1. I sometimes overate, and this clearly stopped the number on the scale moving in a negative direction
2. I made an exercise plan but I only sticked to it about 50-70% of the time
3. I tracked my burned calories wrong... (I'm jogging, and I tracked a different speed...and I just realised that instead of 590 kcal I'm only burning 450 with my daily exercise)

Now I see it more clearly than ever (probably because this time my knowledge comes from my own experience and not only from reading others' opinions) how to me, the road to weight-loss success looks like.
I don't see the whole way yet, because I'm only at the beginning, I can't know from my own experience what those are facing who are trying to lose the last few pounds, but I saw what it takes to lose the first pound, and I know I'll need the same strategy for the next several pounds too! :)
So here's what I'm gonna do now:

1. exercise daily, 7 days a week, burn 450 kcal each day
2. instead of 1750 kcal (which is my BMR) consume 1350

(this way, exercising and cutting food will make a daily deficit of approximately 850 kcal; and since 1 pound is made of 3500 kcal, then this means I'll lose 1 pound in every 4 days - that's about 7-8 pounds in a month, which is realistic [if it wouldn't be Sparkpeople wouldn't have a group called "10 pounds a month challenge"] :) )

3. track ALL the food I eat, no matter how complicated it is
4. drink 8 cups of water + 1-3 more cups for exercising
5. visit SP daily for tracking, for motivation and for fun! (because I enjoy it too! :) )
6. stick to my plan 100%
7. if I messed up don't start dwelling on it and feeling bad about it and pulling myself down. It happened. I lost a day or two. Doesn't matter, I can't lose more, I want this too much!

I was at the same weight for 2 weeks too. This morning I was FINALLY down 2 more pounds. I knew I was doing everything right. I rarely deviate from my food plan. I'm doing the exercises. I'm also in the 5th week of this food & fitness plan, a common point to hit a plateau so I knew I just needed to be patient. However, I also knew it was time to kick up the cardio a notch so I increased my cardio to 60 minutes per day. I started out 5 weeks ago at 15 minutes per day and have built on that.

All in all I'm feeling pretty good and I'm sure you are too. You're a planner and that ensures your success. Good strategy. Thanks for sharing.

Week 3 Workout plan: 2940 kcal burned, 9 hrs 25 min exercised this week!

Monday, March 08, 2010

Total calories burned this week:
Plan / [Actual]: 3150 / [2940]

Total minutes exercised this week:
Plan / [Actual]: 9 hrs 20 min / [9 hrs 25 min]

*************************************

[I burned a little less calories in a little more time than planned, because I had to stop jogging due to my legs hurting, so i walked instead, which doesn't burn as many calories in such a long time as jogging]

*************************************
Last week wasn't perfect because I didn't exercise at all on two days and I only did a shorter exercise on two other days, so basicly last week consisted of 3 good days of workout. Well i'm changing this on this week. I'm gonna burn 590 kcal every day beginning with tuesday. Monday didn't start well, I slept very little and I was in a very bad mood and I also had things to do...but basicly it was the bad mood. Anyway, I'll make the rest of the week perfect. :)

Monday (450 kcal) - done only 30 min biking, that's 150 kcal
40 min walk
40 min jogging

Tuesday (450 kcal) - DONE!! Which is a big deal because I was in a really bad mood, the whole day went by like me fighting back tears 99% of the time (and starting crying in that 1%), but I still did all my jogging, although I struggled and I had to stop several times. Doesn't matter! I'm getting stronger and stronger with every single day of jogging and I don't care about my legs hurting. What more annoying is that I recalculated the amount of calories that I'm burnig with these 80 minutes of exercise, and it turns out that it's only 450 kcal, not 590...
40 min walk
40 min jogging

Wednesday (450 kcal) - much more than just DONE!!!! I burned 825 kcal, with 2 hrs 20 min of walking and 35 min jogging. To be honest the walking wasn't only for exercise, i had to go somewhere and it was pretty far from our place, and I walked. :) And I must say that my calorie-intake was low either, I had a 350 kcal deficit from there, so total calorie deficit yesterday: 1175 kcal! :) I love that 4-digit number!!! :D
40 min walk
40 min jogging

Thursday (450 kcal) - done only 150 kcal with biking
40 min walk
40 min jogging

Friday (450 kcal) - DONE, and I did 600 kcal, I walked for 140 minutes, my feet still hurt too much for running
40 min walk
40 min jogging

Saturday (450 kcal) - burned only 370 kcal with 3 SP cardio videos. Glad i found them cause I couldn't swim or walk today, my feet still hurt for running, my bike's wheel is broken, so it's great that i just found them today! :)
40 min walk
40 min jogging

Sunday (450 kcal) - burned only 395 kcal, I walked for 80 minutes.
40 min walk
40 min jogging

Perfect calorie-day yesterday! :)

Saturday, March 06, 2010

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to write a short blog about yesterday: which was awesome!!!!
I consumed 1330 calories, my BMR (daily calories that i should consume to 'stay on level') is 1460 kcal, so that's a 130 kcal deficit from there AND I burned 590 kcal with jogging so that's a total of 720 kcal calorie deficit! :) I love it, and I'm so glad I managed to not eat more than I planned!
Take care everyone, :)
Lilla

    Hi Lilla

It's great that you have had such a good result. Really empowering when you get something good happening.

I am concerned about how you are measuring your calorie needs. BMR is the rate your body uses energy without doing anything (ie lying in bed) if you are mainly sedentary you will burn about 20% more calories so your required calories will be 1460*1.2= 1750.
You have burnt another 590 jogging so your total deficit is more like 1000kcal. At that deficit every day you will lose about 2lbs a week.

Keep it up
