Physio!

Friday, January 07, 2011

Well my physio was this afternoon and I spent 30 minutes walking there, 30 minutes waiting for them to call me because they were running late, 30 minute having them work on my shoulder doing some heat and ice treatments, exercises and ultra sound on it. It turns out that I have a lot of scare tissue where my injuries is and that is the reason for me to be in so much pain.

I was also told not to wear a bra or any type of top with thin straps on it because the straps are digging into my shoulder where the damages in. I am also told to move my shoulders is small movements. No lifting at all, no heavy workouts or housework.

Before I left to walk back home the armed me with literature and exercises to do for the next 4 to 6 weeks because they know I won't be coming back at $40.00 a session. My claim will not be reopened. They are saying this is a new injury, so a new report goes it.

So now that I have all the stuff needed I will do my own physio at home 3 to 5 times a week. I can get my brother and BF to help me as I do them. Making sure my form is correct and I have someone there supporting me.

So walking home took me about 40 minutes. I had to stop and do some window shopping and stop to get a coffee at Tim's. I was good though I didn't buy a donut, just the coffee.

Home to make a salad with baked ham, fresh mushrooms, low fat cottage cheese and water. Man o man was that ever good and filling.

That was over 3 hours ago and I am still full and this is normally the time that I have a 100 calorie snack cause I am hungry. Well not tonight.

I will just have my last glass of water before I go and have a hot bubble bath and then to bed.

I even manage to do 2 hours of hand sewing my mom's sweater and that didn't even hurt my shoulder at all.

I still have the sleeves to set in and sew and finish the collar, then I can give it to my mom. Who by the way keeps asking me when she's going to get it and why isn't it finished yet. I just laugh and remind her of my shoulder and that I am working on it as much as I can.

So I will leave you all tonight and a good note. I got a new prescription again for sleeping pills, actually the doctor gave a couple pack of samples to try. Saving me some money. I will take them after my bath. LOL!

Can't wait to get in at least 7 or 8 or even more hours of sleep. Last night I got in 3 short hours. Still having bad dreams due to stress and being in pain.

Have a wonderful night my friends.

Hopefully soon I can share some more pictures.

Well, considering the days you've been having, this one doesn't sound too bad at all! Saved yourself the stress of finding the money for ongoing physio and got some free sleeping pills as well! Love that you weren't tempted to have that donut, or that if you were you didn't give in to it.

Keep taking care of yourself, and hopefully you will be finding each day a little less painful than the one before it.

Wednesday's blog!

Thursday, January 06, 2011

Just wanted to wish all my sparker a great night and a fabulous day tomorrow. I am doing OK. I managed to get in 2 hours of knitting. Working on the lab coat for a Sockmonkey. I got in my cardio walk and did over 15,000 steps which is awesome.

Tomorrow is my physio appt. for my arm. I will be back late afternoon and will tell you all about it.

I just took two painkiller and I am now going to bed to hopefully get some sleep.

Last night I got in 3 hours of disturbing dreams and night mares and I didn't even take a sleeping or pain pill. Go figure

I guess the added stress and pain is adding to these bad dreams.

Lets hope that I have sweet happy dreams tonight or I might never go to sleep again. These dreams were so horrific that I won't even tell you about it.

Well another negative blog and I wish I had some great happy blogs to say to you. Maybe tomorrow I will have a happy blog to write about.

Good night.

Amazing Day!

Tuesday, January 04, 2011

I've had an amazing day despite being in so much pain and with no little sleep. Again I only had three hours of sleep. No pain killers worked for me but that is OK I hate pain killers. So I am healing naturally and will only take a pain pill when it gets too bad.

When John woke up and after breakfast we headed out and filled up the to big 11 litre bottles of water and went to the dollar store to pick up some calendars and some cleaning product. Then we headed over to Michael and had a look around, didn't buy anything, now wool, yarn was on sale. I still have a huge stash of yarn at home so I am good.

After that we headed to Safeway's to do our grocery shopping. It was Customer Appreciation day again and we saved over 200.00 on the great deals and 2 for 1 sale that they had.

Our fridges and cupboard are full to capacity and it feel so good to have healthy foods in the house again. We did buy some snack items and we have divided them up into 100 calorie portions.

We now have lots of fruits and veggies and lean meats in. I can make healthy dishes and enjoy cooking again now that I have tons of time on my hands.

We walked home and put the items away and our neighbour John came up for a visit and stayed for two hours. He even stayed for a healthy pizza that I made and both Johns liked it.

Now that he had left I am now watching the new season of the Biggest Loser and typing this up during the commercials.

I even manage to do over 15,000 steps today and will do more because in five minutes time I will be walking during commercials and getting in my last glass of water.

Well I have to go now the show is back on.

See yah later gators!

Here a big hug for you!

I'm thinking I could knit during some shows, or sew or whatever needs doing, the use Charlie, my cardio twister during the ad breaks... great idea, thank you. That way when I sit down to sew/knit, I don't feel I should be exercising, and if I exercise, I don't feel I should be sewing/knitting...

Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight, but I do agree with you about the pain meds. I would rather be awake through the night than put up with the really lethargic way they make me feel.

Physiotherapy!

Tuesday, January 04, 2011

Didn't get any sleep last night again. Well maybe 3 hours in total. Every time I turned in my sleep I woke up to a lot of pain.

Enough is enough. I went into the clinic today cause my doctor's office is closed since it is a holiday.

I saw a new doctor and he did some test on my shoulder and is most definite that I have a tare in my rotators cup, so he is sending my in for therapy on Thursday and my medical won't pay for it.

I can't claim it on my old claim cause it is closed and he said this injury had nothing to do with my old injury. What a bunch of bullllllll!!!

So I told my BF this and he said that he has my exercise sheets that my doctor gave me to work on when I first injured my shoulder. I had forgotten that I gave him these work out sheets when he dislocated his shoulder. He also has some other exercise sheets that his Chiropractor gave him to use. So he is going to fax the sheets to me.

This will help me get better and get stronger.

I was also told not to do any knitting or crocheting for two weeks because it is putting too much strain on my shoulder.

Well it is a bit but it is not that bad and I will still work on my orders but I won't be doing it for 10 or 12 hours aday every day. I will be taking lots of brakes every 30 minutes to ice it and to do some very light stretching.

I have been pretty good in adapting and not using my shoulder too much today. I just wished that I can sleep on my left side again. It is my favorite side to sleep on. Probably why my shoulder is so bad.

I am told to lie on my back for comfort and for better healing purposes.

I will be fine so don't worry about me.

I am also going to limit my sparking for a week because typing is very difficult and so painful right now.

It is amazing how much we use our shoulders and not realize how much we need it.

So I might not be blogging every night or posting as much.

Please note that I am reading every post, email, sparkmail and blogs that I subscribe too but I might not leave a message, I will try. I just might leave a emoticonor something just to let you know that I am here.

I know you all will understand and will be OK with it. I have to heal and I thank you in advance in letting me do this.

Hugs and I will talk to you all later.

Peace out.

When I can't use right my arm and right hand for the next six weeks after surgery, I plan just to leave emoticons on people's blogs to let them know I have read as I won't be able to type with just one finger on my left hand much.. Maybe that is what you should do too.
Take care of yourself

It's great that your BF will be faxing you the exercises, as it should help since they're the ones you did B/4 for the shoulder. Sending good vibes your way that the pain lessens every day for you. Yes, plese continue to apply the ice to keep swelling down to a minimum. We all understand that using your hands will aggravate the shoulder , so we'll be here when the shoulder allows you to spark as much as you want.

CHRISTURTLE 1/4/2011 3:30PM

Oh Sandra, I am so sorry to hear the news - not that you won't be Sparking so much, because we all understand the need for that. The news I mean is that the injury is so severe. Here was me thinking it was only a minor problem!
You shouldn't be knitting or crocheting at all, as I'm sure you've been told a million times already, but please think about it because it is only going to delay a full recovery, which I'm sure you want and need. I know you don't want to let anyone down by having to delay completing the orders you already have, but your health needs to take priority,
I injured my hand at work, the two smallest fingers on my right hand, was forbidden to remove the splint and the strapping to keep them immobile, same with the metal brace to keep me bending my wrist or being able to do anything with the hand itself. I knew better, and just removed everything for short periods throughout the day, did some easy to do things so I wasn't depending on friends, but stopped when it became too uncomfortable, and eventually was able to return to normal. But... by using it till I felt minor discomfort aggravated the injury, and has prevented full recovery, even now. All because I thought using it a little wouldn't do any harm. There is now nothing can be done to return full flexibility to those two fingers, and because of that I now have problems with my thumb and wrist.
Please, please remember something my doctor told me that I didn't realize - to use a damaged joint, even to the point of mild discomfort, is only going to aggravate the injury, and the damage is done even before that discomfort is felt.
Take all the time you need to recover properly. Read Spark People, reply if you feel the need - with your LEFT hand, and know that we all understand and want you to get properly better before doing anything more than that.
Take this time to rest, to relax and catch up with movies, television programs, read all those books you intended to read sometime (if you're like me you have a list a mile long)... just take it easy. I'd hate to think of you aggravating the injury because of Spark People.
Sending love and good wishes your way. We will miss you, but we know we would rather miss you than worry about you doing to much with that arm.
((Hugs))
Chris.
(End of lecture, lol.)

I hope the pain subsides soon. Hopefully the physio exercises will be helpful. You might want to see your own doctor even though you went to the clinic. I often find that I get different recommendations when I see someone who knows me and my circumstances. The worst that could happen is that she would confirm what the clinic doctor said.

Feel better soon. Hugs. SM

P.S. I'm not getting any blog or thread notifications from SP right now, so if I miss something I'm not ignoring you - I just didn't see it.

You probably don't want to hear this, but I'll say it anyway because I care, so there. :-)

The most important thing here is that you get better, and if that means laying off the knitting and crochet, you really need to do that. It is amazing how much of our body is involved in those processes. The side that holds the hook gets the biggest workout, but pulling at wool with the other arm also has its effect.

Besides, seeing how badly this has affected your life will be a good lesson for your brother. Maybe it'll teach him to put his stuff away in future.

OK, off the lecture box and putting away the wagging finger now. *hugs*

At the end of the day, only you know what is affecting your shoulder and how long you can knit or whatever before taking a break, so you be the judge, Honey. :-)
Take care, and get better real soon.
Hugs,
Lex xxx

New Projects!

Monday, January 03, 2011

I been working on some new project today and just having a total rest day. I did walk over 11,400 steps today which is great because I thought with all that biking and walking that I did yesterday I would be sore and tired but I wasn't. I will be tomorrow cause I also did lots of high stepping and lunges too.

What are me new project you ask, Well let me tell you.

The Garfield I still have to do for myself,
A Sockmonkey for a customer, still working out the details for the outfit.
Finishing mom's sweater
A panda pattern that a friend gave me to work on.
A brown Pony for my knittables collections

Well I think that is plenty enough to keep me busy until I get more orders.

On another note I just wanted to congratulate of my sparkling friends for their new Spark Trophies that they received today. I got some too and it is always a great thing to get at the end of a month. You know that you have worked hard when you receive these special trophies.

I ate well today lots of veggies with my Homemade Chicken soup for lunch and dinner tonight. It was out of this world in comfort food but I am treating myself to one glass of that white Zinfedale wine tonight and a 100 calorie bag of plain chips. My one treat for the week.

Well I am off to bed now to watch a bit more TV and to get some sleep.

Tomorrow is housework day since it is John's day off, He will be doing most of the cleaning because of my shoulder but I will help as much as I can.

Have a great night and I will check in in the morning before I start the housework.

See you all later.

Can't wait to see pictures of your new projects and your mom's sweater. Be careful with your shoulder...hope it is getting better. Praying that you are getting the sleep you need also.
Hugs,
Helen
