One-Year Surgiversary

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Well, it's one-year almost to the hour that my life changed with the WLS. It's been a challenging year but a great year. Although the scales may not be quite where I'd have liked them to be at this time, I keep looking at what I have done and remind myself that the rest will come. Since surgery, the scales have come down about another 80lbs.

This week I looked back at some of the goals I set prior to surgery and to date have reached about half of them. A few weeks ago, we were doing some work in our kitchen and for the first time that I can remember, I was able to climb a ladder without a problem to paint the walls & ceiling; up and down off the floor to paint baseboards, etc. I have more energy than I can remember having in so many years it's unimaginable. I now have a job I love going to that a year ago I couldn't have imagined having.

So, as I look forward to the next year, I'll have to set myself some new challenges and get ready for another fantastic year.

This year, one of the biggest things I learned about myself was how much my friends - both cyber and face-to-face - mean to me. So for my sparkfriends, thanks for your support this year! emoticon

First Charity Walk Completed!

Sunday, September 12, 2010

Well, almost 7 months out from surgery and I completed my first 5km Charity Walk to raise funds for the Parkinson's Society of Canada. It was a great day weather-wise....sunny but not too hot. There were over 300 walkers and well over $30,000 raised in one walk alone!

A year ago at this time I wouldn't have been able to do the 2km stroll (you could choose the 2km or 5km route)....just one more step towards a healthier me!

August Update

Monday, August 30, 2010

Well, I guess it's time to post another blog....hard to believe that I haven't done this since June!

It is now 6-1/2 months since my surgery. The summer has been going well. I'm now down another two sizes in most of my clothing...the latest size change I didn't even realize I'd accomplished until I had to purchase an outfit for a wedding this past weekend. That was certainly a pleasant surprise. I don't remember wearing this size in about 20 years

Since surgery, I'm down about 60lbs and a total of 121lbs since starting the journey....but still have about the same amount still to lose. My biggest challenge is getting in enough calories, especially on the really hot, humid days.

On September 12th, I'm about to aim to reach my first fitness goal...to walk a 2km Charity Walk in support of the Parkinson's Society. They also have a 5km...but I'm not sure I'm quite ready for that yet.

I feel better than I have in years....mentally, physically and emotionally! I'm so glad I made the decision to have the RNY!

Your doing great! You go girl! On those days that I don't eat much, I make sure I get in the protein with shakes. Then I don't worry about it.

Four Month Surgiversary!

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Wow!!!! Where did four months go?!? At almost exactly this time, four months ago today I was being wheeled into a surgical suite for a surgery that would change my life!

Since the surgery the weight loss has been slow, but I've adopted the motto of one day at a time, one foot in front of the other. For the first time I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Although the weight loss has been slow there have been so many other added benefits - the back and knee pain are pretty much gone, I'm breathing easier, sleeping better (although I'd never been diagnosed with any sleeping conditions, I'm beginning to wonder now), have more energy than I've had in I don't know how many years and actually feel good about myself! This all leads to being able to keep going if I've got a down day because I know better days are ahead.

I'm now down four sizes in tops and 3 sizes in bottoms and am back to sizes that I haven't seen since High School about 20 years ago. It's actually fun to go shopping again - even at the thrift stores!

Now onto another day of this journey. Have a great day!

100lbs Gone!!!!!

Tuesday, May 04, 2010

Although my ticker on SP doesn't show the 100lbs that are now gone - they are from my first appointment regarding the surgery last April. Although it took an extra 2 weeks to hit my goal of 100lbs, I'm thrilled they are gone!

I've had more energy in the past few weeks than I've had in I don't know how long. When I get up in the morning I actually feel rested - what a change.

It's hard to believe that it's almost 3 months since surgery - where does time go.

Thanks everyone for your support on this journey.

Great job before and after your WLS. The 100 pound mark is a milestone and it is also a blessing to feel better. I'm a month post op behind you and I hope to do as you did.
