Thank you Terri & LilAngels. He just got out of surgery and he's doing fine. Haven't seen the dr yet. Hoping the procedure ws completed and that we don't have to repeat this a 3rd time.

Gotta keep Sparking!

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Knowing that I'm going to be out of the office for the next few days until my husband and my surgeries are done, I am preparing for my addiction to SparkPeople. God forbid I should miss a day of logging and spinning that wheel! I am borrowing a laptop from work until next Tuesday when hopefully I'll resume a semi-normal life again.

Overwhelmed...and it's only Monday!

Monday, April 19, 2010

So much going on this week! My husband is having surgery Wednesday and I'm having surgery Friday. Kind of stupid to plan both for the same week, but I had to take advantage of the fact that we will be able to care for each while we take off for a few days. I know we'll get through it just fine, but of course I am already overthinking things.

Here's where you come in. I am having carpal tunnel surgery and my right hand will be heavily wrapped for 2 weeks. I asked the physician's asst how soon I could go back to Jazzercise and walking. I'm doing so well with exercise and I don't want to give it up completely. She said that I absolutely would not be able to do hand weights until the stitches come out (2 weeks) and that I cannot sweat at all since sweat will not promote healing the incision area. I also cannot put any pressure on the hand. Maybe I can still walk at a moderate pace??? How about yoga? I know that some forms of yoga are strenuous, but others are more relaxing.

What do you suggest?

I had two cancer surgeries last year and I believe walking really helped me to heal. Best to you.

Slow to moderate walks. You don't want to ruin your surgery due to lowering your exercise. try walking several times a day not to the extent of sweating. Wishing you and your DH a quick recovery.

I'd stay away from yoga till the stitches are out. But a moderate or slow walk should be ok. Just don't go too fast!

Walking at a slower pace should be fine but yoga will be hard to do without being able to put weight on your hand. Good luck!

Wow! No sweat? It sounds like you could still walk. I don't know about yoga, though. I haven't done much, but a lot of the poses put some kind of pressure on the hand...

I love food!

Sunday, April 18, 2010

I've blogged about this before, but I LOVE FOOD!!! I love everything about it. I love looking up recipes, shopping for foodand making delicious meals. I love looking at pictures of food, too. It's an addiction. Tonight I am making a recipe I saw on Food Network from Giada...I think that's how you spell her name. It was a sandwich. You take Pillsbury dough and spread it out on a cookie tray, lay a piece of parchment paper over it and then put a cookie sheet on top of it so that the dough bakes but doesn't rise. The rest of the sandwich is grilled chicken, avocado and a spicy mayo (I use the healthy mayo). Hope it tastes good!

I am also making tomorrow's dinner now to save time on a busy work day. Spaghetti Pie...but I'm using ground chicken instead of ground beef and whole wheat spaghetti instead of regular.

Bon Appetit!
