Sometimes healthy people have heart attacks

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Let me explain. A elderly woman that goes to Jazzercise with me had a heart attack 4 months ago. We were all shocked because she works out and she didn't have any symptoms leading up to the actual attack. Here's the thing though. Because of her fitness regimen, she bounced back quickly after having open heart surgery. Her doctors were amazed at how quickly she recovered. So although some people were saying "Why exercise when a heart attack could happen anyway?" I say "Why not be the healthiest you can be?" If the unexpected happens, your chance of recovering faster is so much better".

Your friend is an inspiration - be as healthy as you can and you'll bounce back from difficult situations.

I am one of those healthy people who had one. Let me tell you, it's no fun! Does help to be in best possible shape, however. emoticon

I had a friend (a man) who died of a heart attack in early 2000 at the age of 49, leaving behind a wife and three kids. This guy actually won the New York marathon in 1972 (before it was the big event that it is today). Until shortly before he died, he continued to run and was active in the New York Roadrunners club. He continued to live a healthy lifestyle all along. Unfortunately, he had some sort of heart condition that eventually did him in. Several doctors told him to have bypass surgery, and several did not. He did not. Obviously he made the wrong decision. So you just never know.

Do you love your body as is...flaws and all?

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

I've heard that to find peace and be comfortable in my own skin, I have to love my body as it is right now. When I think of how far I've come, I am grateful to my body for carrying me this long. I've only been living this healthier lifestyle for three years, so that my legs continued supporting my weight for all those years before I learned to love exercise is a true blessing.

Yes, there are things about my body that I'd love to change instantly if I could, but I know it takes time. I do love my body as is...but I'll keep on this path knowing it can only get better.

I will never have the "Perfect Body", but what is perfection anyway. I can say that I really love my body sagging belly skin and all. I am healthy, active and happy which I wasn't a 100lbs ago.

I had this conversation with my oldest a few months back. I told her that I love my body and her chin dropped. She was like but you've got the family thighs like me and a thick midsection with a roll or so. I told her that all maybe true but I've made my body what it is. I made it morbidly obese, I've lost and maintained a nearly 60lb weight lose and continue to lose inches and build muscle. All the love and abuse my body has endured is amazing and the fact that it keeps supporting me has brought me to loving it more and more.

My body Rocks, rolls and all cuz its MY BODY!

Way to go, keep up the good work.

Honestly, that is something I struggle with most. Loving my body as-is. Some days are better than others but its definitely something I need to work on.

Busy day and have to skip Jazzercise tonight...waaahhh!!!

Monday, November 14, 2011

It's been nonstop since walking into work this morning and to top it all off, I can't go to Jazzercise tonight because I have a work meeting. I've been trying to make up for it by exercising in my office. I'm trying to do these mini workouts without anyone noticing...pretty funny.

Aaaahhhh Mondays!

Sweet! We adopted a very young tabby kitten last year. At first the other 3 were wary, now they are fine, but our bossiest Siberian adores her, and makes a complete fool of himself over her. Who would have thought it? It has quite mellowed him.We called our girl Sparrow, because I found her in a Holly bush, and God cares about the Sparrows. He knew we would give her a good home.
