Do I need Motivation or Advice?

Thursday, March 07, 2013

Good Morning Friends!
Today, the question is "Do I Need Motivation or Advice?" My answer: Always!!!!

It's not that I'm crying out for these things. Over the course of the past few days blogging for the 5% challenge, I have discovered that many of you have left motivating comments and advice for me. And guess what? I like it!!! Reading your comments has encouraged me to keep on track and to keep moving. I have taking to heart the advice, and made some of the suggested changes. I can say I am having a successful week and part of that is because of you! Who doesn't enjoy a good word of encouragement? Positive actions bring positive reactions. (I have this on a sticky note on my computer, I can't tell you the source of the quote though) We are on this journey together. When I stumble, you encourage me and help me to keep going. When you stumble, I hope I am doing the same for you!

Wishing you a terrific Thrursday . . . . It's almost Friday! I can almost see the weekend!

I know we all could use some encouragement no matter where we are in the journey of a lifetime for better health.
So keep pushing towards what ever goal you are shooting for because you are worth every change you make to be the best YOU!
Have a wonderful day , get out there and make wise food choices, stay active and be the success story that will motive someone else to keep trying

What can I do to improve?

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

The day begins right on target: I'm exercising, eating clean, drinking water . . . . then somewhere along in the evening, I get the monster snack attack. I want something salty, crunchy or chocolaty. My weakness is pretzels. I usually stay with in my calorie range and only eat a few, but there are much better things I can be munching on if I am in need of a snack. Today . . . STEP AWAY FROM THE PRETZELS! STEP AWAY FROM THE CHOCOLATE MORSELS!!!

We did get a lot of snow yesterday . . . the good news is it is March and hopefully it won't stay around long! Have a Wonderful Wednesday!

Evening is my weak time, too! There's something about rewarding myself at the end of the day. I have found 100 calorie popcorn helps with salt cravings and some homemade lowfat cocoa with chocolate for me. Hugs!

Maybe something to jump on, instead of staying away?
I don't know, maybe carrots, apples, so you have something to chew on... I also noticed that when I do intensive exercise, my appetite for snacking is much lower.
When there's a coffee break, and everybody is eating something, I prefer to have something to chew as well. So I ask for veggies, fruits sliced in small pieces.

As long as you are staying within your ranges there is not a big issue. I have similar cravings and keep snack sized versions on things around to satisfy those. But, I also keep healthy substitutes around and try to alternate between healthy and craving snacks.

Try getting rid of the pretzels and not opening the morsels. Then buy some almonds and limit yourself to 1 serving. After that drink fluids.

Snacks are ok, just make sure you track exactly what you're eating so at least you get a real picture of whether it is worth it or not. That always helps me...I'm a big chocolate morsel fan too!!

Have you tried kale chips? You can make them yourself, or buy them. As far as salty snacks, be sure to watch your sodium. I've learned a lot about it recently and if you cut sodium back, you'll see the pounds drop offs, which is exciting!

I too have evening crunch cravings sometimes, which is when I do unsalted pretzels. Thankfully not too often! I also try sugarless gum or sugarless candy from time to time. Maybe that will work for you!

Day by Day in the 5% challenge

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

Good Morning! It is an snowy day here, we are under a winter storm warning. But, I'm inside for now, nice and toasty!
The question today is "How are you doing day by day with your new habit?" I'm doing great! I have met my goals each day. I am motivated to move and to keep on moving. Each day I have met my goal early in the morning and then adding the little things in all day, such as the quick fires, the Daisy Do's, and tag you're it!
That said, it is time to put the coffee cup down, grab the water bottle and head down to the basement and begin marching on to today's goals!
Have a lovely day friends . . . and keep on moving, eat clean and drink your water!!!

What am Doing to Achieve my new habit and encourage myself?

Monday, March 04, 2013

I love check list! I always have a check list of something going, a list for groceries, a list for chores to do throughout the day, a list of errands to run, a list of people to call . . . I delight in crossing items off my list! As I mentioned yesterday, I have a sticky note stuck on my computer with my goals for strength training written on it. As I accomplish each one, I cross it off. I also have a list of Strength Training exercises to do for the day, and yes, they get crossed off too! The earlier in the day that I complete my task the better . . . because when the tasks are completed, I can relax and enjoy a good book, computer time . . . or some other pleasure. No guilty feeling, I've earned it! Also, I'm finding that sharing my goal with my spark friends and getting feedback is a BIG encouragement as well! Sooooo. . . . time to get moving! Have a great day!

I missed doing Daisy Dos today...was on the road for quite a bit.

I'm a list person, too. I use a journal and the Astrid app on my tablet. It sends nasty reminders if you haven't done something in a while. I will often put things like "give DH a back rub" just because my life is chaotic right now, and this stupid little app scolds me if I don't make time for him. We laugh when I get reminders like that.

I have my workout on Astrid, but I haven't broken it down into particular exercises. I think this would work well, especially with my limited gym time.

Thanks for the great idea.

    Great idea!
I make a list of things to do for the day, then I make horitontal line, and only focus on the items above the list.
I never thought before, I can do this also for exercise! Great idea!
Hope you are doing great!

How am I going to do my new habit?

Sunday, March 03, 2013

Yesterday, I wrote about my desire to add more Strength Training into my fitness routine. I decided to help me along with that by doing 100 push ups and 130 squats per day. So, How am I going to do that? I have my goal written on a sticky note on my computer. Every time I see it I am reminded of it. I don't like having a check list with items not marked off. So, every time I see my goal I will be reminded that I need to complete that task. Today, I did squats while the coffee was brewing, I will do push ups before I hit the treadmill and when I get off. I have challenged myself today to complete these tasks before I head out the door for worship service! Challenging myself is a great motivator for me.

Hi, your page looks nice n Emerald too. I also recently got a fit bit. I so love it. It really motivates me to get more steps in. I was very sedentary, no exercise for 5 years and got quite out of shape... Now the fitbit is changing all that. I just got up to go do ten min on my treadmill and saw your comment on my page. If you have a smartphone there is a fitbit app that works on android phone. I plan on going to the gym for first time in years. My clothes are laid out and ready. I need strength training BADLY!! I did add you as a friend, because I like your blogs and your motivation talk helps me too! You Sparked me!! Plus we are on the same Emerald team.
