New Habit for the 5% challenge

My new habit for the 5% challenge will be to do at least 30 minutes of Strength training per day. I have the cardio down, but I tend to slack off when it comes to strength training. To help me out with this goal, I will do 130 squats each day and 100 push ups. I'm going to be Daisy strong!!!

    ST is great, but you might want to alternate upper body and lower body workouts so your muscles get some rest in between. Good luck on your new habit.

Stress and the Holidays

1. Don't sweat the small stuff, there are bigger more important things in life.

2. It doesn't have to be perfect. Don't spend so much time making it perfect that you forget to take time and enjoy!

3. Remember the true reasone we celebrate Christmas and what the season is all about. Don't leave Christ out of Christmas.

Apple/pear/strawberry fruit leather

Apple / pear / strawberry Fruit leather

1 Red delicious apple
1 golden delicious apple
9 frozen strawberries
1 TBSP water

Core apples and cut into small pieces. Put apples, strawberries, and water in food processer or heavy duty blender. Mix until chunks are gone, you may have to add more water, but that's ok! Spread mixture on a food dehydrator tray and place in dehydrator. Set temperature at 135 degrees. Depending on the amount of liquid, the leather should be done in about 6 hours. Store in air tight container! Enjoy!!!

Amigo Chicken Tortilla Soup

Amigo Chicken Tortilla Soup serves 4

3 Tsp. olive Oil
3/4 Cup chopped onion
1 lb Chicken, chopped into bite size pieces
3/4 Tsp Cumin
3/4 Tsp Chili powder
2 (16oz size) can black beans or cook and use dried
1/2 cup apple juice
12 oz tomato sauce
3 TBSP lime juice
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 1/2 cups salsa

Heat oil in large Dutch oven or soup pot over medium high heat. Add onion and saute until translucent. Add chopped chicken and cook about 4 minutes or until browned on all sides. Stir in cumin and chili powder. Add remaining ingredients, cover and heat thoroughly.

Sour cream, baked tortilla chips, shredded Monterey Jack or cheddar cheese or mexican blend cheese, sliced black olives, sliced green onions . . . .

Good on a crisp, cool evening! Enjoy

Working out the Kinks

Just when you think you have the routine down, something happens to throw it all off. I'm an early riser; I work out in the mornings and have my quiet time before the rest of the family gets up. Because I enjoy getting up early, I don't burn the midnight oil. Well, enter in a shift change in my son's job. Due to circumstances, he is not driving right now. Therefore, he must be dropped off and picked up from work. For me, that means instead of being snug as a bug in a rug in my bed, I'm doing work pick up at 11:30 p.m. My body clock is still waking me up early, giving me about 3 - 4 hours of sleep a night. Probably not a good thing. So, with that said, I'm still getting up in the mornings and working out. I'm trying to sleep in a little later, because I know the sleep is good for my body. If I get behind the powerball in the morning in my workouts, though, it's hard to make it up later in the day. Maybe a nap in the evenings before I make the 11:30 run is the answer.

On the upside, I've dropped about 6 lbs this summer! Woo Hoo! I am more toned and I've lost some inches too!!! Yay!!!
