The light in the Middle of the Tunnel

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

The light at the end of the tunnel is still far away, but I see some light in the middle of the tunnel. I have hit some big milestones in the past week. I am under 200 lbs, which is a 51+ pound loss so I have broke the 50 pound loss mark. Yes it feels great. I know all losses should count as progress but I have always had a hard time measuring the small steps when I still see the long road ahead. Have had no heart issues either since my attack in July. I know I get through all of this by the grace of God. I have started running a little. It always feels good after a run to know I am burning additional calories and building up my heart.

Home Gym and other stuff

Thursday, September 20, 2012

My wife and I have been looking for a home gym and wanted to make sure we got the best bang for our buck. Out of the blue her coworker says that her dad has a couple he is getting rid of . Whe she got the price from him he said no charge as long as we haul off ourselves. I go there thinking this is pretty cool we can save a couple hundred bucks, only to get there and find out it is a very nice name brand home gym that would have cost us close to a thousand. I have now used it twice this week as we just got it and it is a workout. We really wanted it for our son as he needs to start working out but just found out he has a hernia that has to be repaired first. It is so great though.

In other news, I am now under 210 lbs. I consider under 200 another big milestone so am getting close, but before I get there at 201 I will be at 50 lbs. lost.

Also on the diet from I have went out a couple times and am ordering well. One time I ordered the house salad, which was a green salad with kidney beans, garbanzo beans, and a couple slices beets on top. I ordered it without dressing and with a side of pickles and peppers. The next time at a different place I ordered the fresh fruit platter with a cinnamon yogurt dipping sauce. I only dipped one strawberry slice and ate the rest just as it was sliced. The menu had a calorie count and I did not eat all the fruit on the plate by a long shot.

Thats all I got for now.....

Need to find variety

Saturday, September 08, 2012

How do you come up with a variety of things to eat when you are watching not just how much, but sodium, sat fats, cholesterol etc.? On top of that I have two jobs and six kids so time just seems to run away and so by the time I am thinking about dinner I just go for an easy stand by like ground turkey tacos . I do not season with salt, I just allow the salt to come from the sodium already in the ground turkey. Other simple meals have been rice dishes, baked potatoes, or Ill fix kids something quick and pop a low sodium meal in the micro for me. I know I could use crockpot more but then the premeasuring and pre entering of ingredients to try and calculate a servings nutritional value gets tedious. Any other ideas out there?

Have you looked at the planned meals? I have SP do my meal plans and go from there. I do not have 6 kids to cook for though! I like the meal plans as I can put in what I need to reduce ( sodium, cholesterol, etc.) and it does it all for me. Sorry. Guess this is not much help.

Milestones (or are they inchstones)

Thursday, September 06, 2012

Well I am under 220. I am at 216.4 right now and I bought a pair of 38 waist pants the other day on the outside chance they would fit. I figured worst case scenario I will be there soon adn can keep them laid out to remind me every day until I get there. Thats not gonna happen though because THEY FIT!!!!! I think as far as the weight goes I may have lost a whole pound on labor day. I guess my wife thinks it means you are supposed to labor all day. After going to Home Depot and picking out some flooring and trim we got it home and got right to work. So from a little before noon to about 10:30 at night we were installing flooring, baseboards and transition strips in our family room. It does look great I must say. But the next few days we have been so sore. It was a great deal on the flooring too. It is a flooring that is usually in the mid range of flooring prices but we got a real good price on it. I believe it was a misorder or something the way it was palleted and displyed.

Monday morning weigh in. I am hovering at 220.8. 220 is one of those magical weight points for me. I feel getting under 220 is a big goal to have reached. The my next one is 200 of course. Getting under 200 I realize is a big goal for everyone. The lowest I have ever been is 145, but most of my life I have been obese. This is all about health now though. I have a great support system at home now though. Life is great and I hope everyone can reach their goals.
