New week. New start. Thank God!

Sunday, April 15, 2012

Last week was rough. I can't even pin pointexactly what made it feel long and difficult, but it was definitely long and difficult. I think it was a combination of things. It is finally over though. Thankfully! On a positive note, I didn't get any phone calls from daycare about the kids having trouble or needing to be picked up. That was huge for me. It has been a long time since we haven't had one issue or another with one kid or the other!
On Wednesday the doctor doubled my blood pressure meds bringing me to the maximum dose. Everyday since then I have had a massive headache. it sets in around 10 am and doesn't go away until bed. I decided last night that I was going to go back to my 10 mg dose and see if I feel better. I hope I do. I am sick of my head hurting so bad. I don't know though because it could be sinuses. Hard to say, but we will see what happens today on my old dose.
Unless I get in a workout this afternoon (which I highly doubt will happen), I have only gotten in one workout this past week. Not good! I know it isn't good and I know that I will have to make next week better. It is up to me to make my things happen. No one else will. If it is important to me, then I have to make it a proirity.
We have to go to my nephew's birthday party today, so no rest or relaxation today. Boo. That is what I really need. Tomorrow I'll go through and review my weekly stats and new goals. Better get my mind set on success!!

Do doctors buy special scales that are rigged?

Thursday, April 12, 2012

I don't get it. I weigh at home and feel and see progress and then I go to the doctor and there is a 6 pound difference! It drives me nuts! That is a big difference. Also, since the last time I was on his scale, I have gained 3 lbs but at home I have lost 3 lbs! I had to go for my blood pressure check yesterday after school. The doctor doubled my dose. I am at the maximum now. I hope it works because I really don't want to change medicines. It is so hard to find one that works and doesn't make me feel off. He said to give it 2 weeks and see what it does. He also said that we could add a diuretic if the 20 mg doesn't work. I am hopeful that this increase will work. We'll see. Time will tell!

I agree with OMMAMA7, those scales are not your friend. I remember when I was going to the doctor's weekly and the scale would say something different than my home one would. Pick 1 scale and don't pay attention to what the doctor's scale says. If you have to, TAKE A PICTURE of your weight at home and SHOW it to your doctor.

I wish you the best.

OH, I hope that gets better soon!!!! I hope the meds work for you!

The scale thing - Yeah, it's always higher at doctor's offices. BUT I know when I weigh at home it's in the morning, with minimal to none clothing on, after going to the bathroom, before eating or drinking anything - I think that's the time that it'll be the most steady. When we go to the dr's we are clothed, have eaten (usually), etc. And the scales are all calibrated differently I'm sure LOL. AND if you had extra salt or something the day before, that can make a big difference.Try not to worry about it too much! Keep going! :) I think we all go through that!

Am I ready?

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

I think I am going to take the plunge. I saw a flier in the teacher’s lounge advertising a 5K for a local kid who has leukemia. It is April 21 though. I am nervous as to whether I can do it or not. I won’t have much time to prepare and get better. Right now I am up to a slow 23 minute jog. Counting my 5 minute warm up and cool down, it takes me 35 minutes to get 2 miles in. If I am correct a 5K is 3.1 miles. I just wonder if I will be crossing the finish line as the cleanup crew is coming through! I have never tried for 3 miles. I want to test myself out and see if I can do it and how long it takes me. Right now I am thinking that I am going to do. I just need to get my rear to the sporting goods store for sign up and to pay. I also have to make sure that I have a babysitter. I think this is a great opportunity to do a 5K that also helps a good (and local) cause. The town I live in isn’t very big so there aren’t going to be a lot of local options I don’t think. I just hope I am prepared enough!

I've heard a lot of people run faster and longer due to the mood of the crowd, excitement of the race and all. And a lot of people walk 5k's, so I think you'll be fine. Glad you are going to give it a try!!! You'll do great!!!

Sounds like you would do great! Go sign up for the race and get excited about crossing that finish line! emoticon

If they've listed the 5k as a walk/run, you'll be completely fine. If they're specifically stating that the race ends after some number of minutes, that's when it can be a little more tough. (Even so, crossing that finish line is such an achievement it is worth it whether you're after the cleanup crew or not!)

Week 12

Monday, April 09, 2012

Week 11 went well I think. Once I got through Tuesday, the rest was downhill. My husband was on vacation so that was nice because he was able to get the kids. My parents came up on Friday and that is always so nice too. I love when they come to visit. They are so much help and are really good with the kids. That is all I have to say about last week so here are my stats:

Wednesday - 2.09 miles (39 minutes)
Friday - 2.14 miles (35 minutes)
Sunday - 2.17 miles (35 minutes)

Review of goals for week 11:
1. 1. 8 cups water/day - MET!
2. 120 minutes of workout minutes - Did not meet...
3. Week 11 of 5KMW – Got in 3 good workouts with 23 minute jogs! I am so proud of myself!!
4. Eat a salad or apple with dinner ever night - Did not meet...

April Monthly Miles - 6.14 miles/30...Good start!!

So, there was good and bad from last week. I am very happy with what I did accomplish though.

Now, for week 12 - Since I know that I am capable of a 23 minute jog, I expect nothing less. I know that I can do it, so that is what I will do. There is no reason or excuse that I should do less than I am capable of, so that is what I will do. No excuse is good enough! Now that I am really feeling more confident in my jogging, I want to really focus on my nutrition. I know, I know...I have been saying this for a while. I have wanted to for a while too! I just haven't. This week it is time to get serious. I want to be conscious of everything that I eat. I will report back and see how it goes. Today was good, so was yesterday. I felt good about what I ate. I think that is a good gauge. I know when I am eating badly. I feel badly. Guilty.

Goals for week 12:
1. 8 cups of water/day
2. 3 (30 minute) Workouts - Jog at least 20 minutes in each workout
3. Mindfully eat
4. Journal at least 3 times

Here we go!!

Good workout!

Wednesday, April 04, 2012

As I may have mentioned, I have been a bit out of it lately. Not feeling particularily motivated. Very blah. Well, today felt better. I am slowly getting back to myself I think. My husband has been on vacation this week and that has helped because I don't have to stress over daycare possibly calling and me having to leave to get them. That has been a huge weight off my shoulders. I am glad to be heading in the right direction once again!

Unfortunately, due to circumstances, today was my first workout of the week. I had planned on doing one yesterday but we had bad weather come through and our school was on lockdown for an hour after our normal dismissal time. Then, of course, I also couldn't jog because it was hailing, tornados were VERY near, and the ran, thunder, and lightning were horrendous! So today I told myself I was going to do SOMETHING. I changed into my workout clothes as soon as I got home loaded up my son and headed out. I went to turn on my C25K app and music and found that my music wouldn't work...I thought, "Oh boy, this is a bad sign." It is hard to run without music too. It helps me keep pace and distracts me from the challenge. I decided that since I couldn't get the speaker to work right that I would just go. See, the phone tells me when to walk and when to jog. C25K is a series of walking/jogging intervals and by using the app I don't have to concern myself with time, I can just focus on my jog. But, with that feature not working, I just decided to go. About half way through the "coach" started working, but I was doing good so I decided to just continue on and go as far as I could. I went 22 minutes! I was so proud. It was a challenge, but it really wasn't too bad. My shins hurt the most, but even that wasn't too awful. My poor knees were achy but that is just because I am still so heavy. Maybe it was good that my phone acted up. It prompted me to push it.

Anyways, here are my stats according to my HRM and GPS on my phone:
Minutes: 39
Calories: 266
Minutes In Zone: 22:04
Miles: 2.09
Walked: 10 minutes (5 warm up and 5 cool down)
Jogged: 22 minutes straight!

WooHoo! Am I back?!

Wow - way to go on just doing it anyway! It's so easy to let any complication derail us but you conquered it! (And of course I'm glad you dodged tornadoes!!) You did so AWESOME!!!!!

I would say, yes ma'am, you are BACK!!!
