Keeping it clean

This is the beginning of week three of cleaner eating. It's getting easier to remember to plan meals and keep the fridge full of fruits and veggies. My experiments cooking with tofu are going great. There are a million recipes out there for really good meals using clean foods.

The benefits of eating this way are really evident. I feel so so much better. I'm sleeping all night, which is a miracle and I feel rested when I wake up. That hasn't happened in so long that I had almost forgotten what it felt like.

Yesterday I had brunch with one of my sons at our favorite place and was able to order a salad that had pears, raisins and veggies and asked for no cheese and no dressing. It was really filling and I felt fine to run an hour later. If I had ordered my usual omelet (with hash browns and toast) I wouldn't have been running I can tell you that.

So, I'm looking forward to what week three has in store. I've been looking at juicers and may pick one up this week.

Cleaning up

Things are going along pretty well with the Eat to Live idea. The changes in food choices have been a little tough sometimes - it takes more effort for me to plan a dinner with fresh vegetables and tofu or try a new recipe than it would be to throw some pasta in water.
I've been so pleased with the way I feel so far though that it's been worth it. Just trying to take it one day at a time.

My husband has commented several times that he really likes the food we've been having. : )

I started this path with the audiobook but have now ordered the hard cover books (there are two) so that I can follow the food plan more carefully. It takes time to make any kind of a change so I'm still listening to the audiobook every day while I work out.

Not being a slave to diet coke and the snack machine at work is like having a huge weight lifted off of me. I'm looking at this change as an adventure and am looking forward to being a much healthier 50 year old.

This morning I had a great lifting workout and then did cardio for 20 min. Planning to do another cardio session at lunch.

Eating clean is going really well. I've been listening to the audiobook every day while I work out and that's been motivating. My husband, the vegetarian who hates vegetables, has been surprisingly ok with the meals we've had this week. I haven't said anything about the eating clean program and have just been quietly making our meals each day. The only thing I've asked is that he just eat only what I pack for his lunch each day and not hit the candy machine. Our dinners have been fresh vegetables and beans (made in varying recipes) with a small amount of brown rice. So far so good.

The things I've noticed in just a few days are that my eyes are clearer, not red and not tired looking. That was really bothering me because I was looking as tired as I felt and didn't look like I felt well. My tummy feels better not having the diet pop every day and my energy level seems to be a bit better. I've replaced the diet pop with green tea. I don't like a lot of hot liquid so I've been popping a tea bag in my water bottle and letting it sit in there for awhile. It makes the water taste really good and is pretty refreshing.

I know these blogs are boring but I need to write them to keep myself on track. : )

Over the weekend I bought the audio podcast of Eating for Health and started listening to it during my workouts. I was going to buy the book but seem to internalize things more effectively if I hear them.

At the end of last week I had already decided to clean things up and get serious about my nutrition and thought the info in the book might help get me motivated. All I can say is that it is exactly what I needed.

This weekend my eating was so much better than it's been and I feel a LOT better than I usually do on Monday morning. No sugar hangover. Yay

Had a great workout lifting this morning and then did cardio at lunch. Feeling great today!

After writing yesterday I seem to have broken through whatever the rut was that I was stuck in. Last night when my husband said, let's get pizza - I made stir fry with fresh vegetables for us instead. When he had a pint of ice cream I was able to say, no thanks. This morning, I had my coffee with no creamer and have been eating clean all day. That means I've also had no diet coke either, which is a big deal.

It's only one day, but it's a start. Saturdays are my super workout day so I'm looking forward to hitting the gym tomorrow for a tough lifting session and some cardio.

I'm going to take this thing just like I did my sobriety at the beginning - one minute at a time if I need to.

After work we're stopping at the grocery on the way home (my husband and I drive to work downtown together every day) and stocking up on fresh stuff for the weekend. I think I can see a little light at the end of this tunnel. : )
