First 5K

Saturday, June 11, 2011

Today my family entered into our first 5K. Had no expectations going into it except to finish. I ended up coming in with a time of 24:01!!!

My son Eric placed second in his age group for boys. My daughter, Rebecca, placed third for women over-all. I just beat her for second for women over-all. The husband believe it or not WON the whole darned thing! First place with a time of 19:27!!! Not to bad in a race with 73 people.

Can't wait to enter my next one!!

That's so exciting! How terrific to have a family doing physical activity together. You are FAST! I'm doing my 1st 5k on Saturday with my DD and it's going to take me more than twice your time LOL!

The Teddy Bears are going to do a virtual 5k the last week of the Fall Challenge. I hope you'll join us for the "I am Thankful" 5k.

My 1000 calorie workout!

Monday, May 30, 2011

Ever since February, when my aunt introduced me to the joy that is a heart-rate monitor, I have been wondering what it would take to burn 1000 calories. So I've been pushing for it. Last weekend I thought I had it, I ran 5 miles, walked a bit, did some abs and stretch.... I felt great sure I was there. Checked my stats, EEK, 966 calories. So close!

Well yesterday I had the time to try again.Ran for 5.5 miles, walked 1.5 miles, did 10 minutes of abs and 10 minutes of stretching... 1027 alories BURNED!! Woo hoo.

Time to set some new goals... emoticon

WooHoo! Thanks for this blog. I'm shopping for a heart rate monitor watch right now to use as a training tool while training as a runner. I'll use it to check calories burned also.

I am no mathematician...

Saturday, May 21, 2011

... but this morning I ran 3.25 miles without stopping to walk. If my calculations are correct that is just a smidge over 5K!! Woo Hoo, that is a goal I have been shooting for for quite awhile. I think I'm ready to enter myself into an actual 5K. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

A 5k is 3.1 miles. Great job on the run!

    It's actually 5.23km. I'm not a mathematician, either, but I'm great at googling things...LOL

That is wonderful. I would keep doing the 3.25 over and over without stopping, then watch your time and each week see if you can beat it.

Go for it!
