Illnesses bring pause

Friday, July 22, 2011

Just after my last blog entry I had a horrible stomach virus. YUCK! I wasn't able to eat much of anything and so I didn't have any energy to do much more than take care of my children. My husband was feeling equally bad (and it turns out he was worse because he actually has Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, not just my stomach virus).

I have been feeling better for a couple of days, but our schedules have been off and my husband has been home in bed. I am making a commitment to get back at it tomorrow. One of the features of this site that help me the most is the meal planner that shows up on my food tracker page.

I have already looked at tomorrow so I know what to eat for breakfast to get started on the right foot again. I will finally be able to go running again tomorrow (I hope the heat doesn't kill me). It is storming now; so, I hope the weather will cool a bit, or that it will be raining tomorrow. That will keep me cooler.

I WANT this! I need to be in good shape and healthy again. I need this so that when I'm old I will still be able to travel and explore this world.

It's the little things in life.

I prefer shirts to be tucked. I don't know why, but I realized a long time ago that I just prefer them that way. About 7 years ago I stopped tucking my shirts. It was pregnancy that lead me to that place in life where you can't tuck a shirt and still look reasonably presentable. Then I nursed that baby and 2 more. So between pregnancy and nursing babies (what's the point of tucking a shirt to have it un-tucked soon for nursing?) I have lived an un-tucked life for about 7 years.

As my youngest child has begun to nurse less, I contemplated tucking my shirts, but then realized I just didn't like the way it looked with my belly sticking our like a pregnant woman - that I am not - and my but too tight in my pants.

A couple of days ago I realized that I am tucking my shirts in again! I am a happy woman. While I still have about 30 lbs I want to loose, the ability to tuck my shift and not look bad is way COOL!

Slowing down

Friday, July 15, 2011

The first 10 pounds seemed to come right off and now I am not seeing the scale move. I did what others suggest by looking at measurements and those don't seem to have moved either. I can see my face looks thinner, but I don't really notice anywhere else. I wish I had taken a picture when I first began the journey so I could look back at it and really see the progress. Maybe I'll do that and load it tonight after the kids go to bed.

Travel and eating right

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

These two things do not usually work well together for me. I am trying to figure out the best way to make sure I eat the right things while I'm gone. Since I just changed over to the second stage of the plan, I am supposed to weigh and measure everything. That will probably be the hardest part to do while I am traveling. I will be taking the "cheat sheet" with me that tells me about what size each serving is so I can at least eyeball it while I am gone.

I'm also hoping the hotel has a workout room so I don't have to run through down town. I'm not really up for that yet.

I will update as I am away.

I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. WE ARE GOING ON VACATION NEXT MONTH AND I KNOW IT WILL BE HARDER TO STAY ON TRACK.

Running again

Saturday, June 25, 2011

I started one of the 5K training programs. When I ran the other day I had looked at the sheet wrong, and I did 1 minute walks with 4 minute runs for 20 minutes and then walked the rest of it.

Today, I did the "right" plan. I did 1 minute walks and 3 minute runs for 32 minutes. The last run was hard and I had to push myself to finish it, but I did. I stretched afterwards.

I came home and ate a yummy lunch - hummus with bell peppers. That was amazingly good! I never knew that would be so good.

I really like the automatic menus. I see that I eat much better food when I have that telling me what to do. I don't like preparing food or deciding what to eat. I like to have healthy food, but I can't seem to figure out what to eat when it's time. These menus have been extremely helpful to me. I am thinking those might be one of the keys to help me stay on track once work starts again in August.
