A New Day!

Monday, August 23, 2010

Well it is Monday and it is a new day and a new week! I am hoping and planning for great things! I did not get to the lake yesterday so am planning on meeting my exercise goals today! I only got in 4841 steps :(
So it is 9.30am and I am just starting my day but I am working tonight and that will be the first of 3 nightshifts! Have my pedometer and we are ready to start the day! I am going to be going to Curves shortly. My daughter is wanting to have a lunchdate today - the high school here has an open campus (unless you are a freshman), she is a junior so we are going for lunch, I am going to be looking at nutritional facts before making my decision where to go....will let you know after lunch :) I am just so thrilled that she still likes to meet me for lunch and talk! She will be 16 in 8 days!
Will check in later

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement! I had lunch and when I got there, she had a friend coming with us too! I love that! Anyhow, we went to Arbys for lunch and I had researched my food first and I did well! I had the chicken ranch sandwhich and peach mandarin frui-tea and it was good! The girls had curly fries, but not one passed these lips!!
I am still on track for the day.......I will be having something light later before working tonight :) I have not got to Curves yet...I hate that they have started closing from 12-3pm as that is my best time to go! I am thinking of following Lexi's advice and getting a mini trampoline too!
See ya
Christine

It is very good to spend time with your teenage daughter. That is such a tough age -- for both the teen and the parent!

Sweetie, it is great that you got an early start to your day and that you still have that closeness with you Daughter at that age

I can't do 10,000 steps, so I've been putting in what I can do and I raise it as I'm able. You are on the right track. Don't be discouraged!!

My Sunday

Sunday, August 22, 2010

I have had a productive day so far.....went to Sunday School and church today and got a great message at both places! In SS we are studying Acts and at church our sermon was based around Samson!
I also signed up for the Ladies Bible Study, we have been on vacation and restart Sept 16th for brunch! Gotta love how Baptist Churches can eat! LOL! We are going to be studying Esther with Beth Moore's study book! I can't wait! Last year we studied "LORD, Where are you when bad things happen" by Kay Arthur and that was great too!
I did some strength exercises this morning and will do some more here shortly, it is humid here today but once the temp cools later this evening I want to take a walk around the lake that we have here - it is so pretty! Hoping that I get to fit it in.....have to get the kids to youth group and then am planning on going to a meeting in town for "The American Heritage Series" about America's moral, religious and constituitional heritage.....I am looking forward to learning something this evening! (Did I mention that I am from New Zealand?) We have been in the States for 10 years and are looking at getting our citizenship.

You're right no one does pot luck and food like the Baptist Church. You are a busy woman. Congrats on fitting it all in making time for yourself and choosing the things in life that really matter. emoticon
Have a blessed week.

Sounds like a great sunday. You will enjoy the Beth Moore study guide on Esther. We had the youth do worship and their youth leader do the sermon at our church today. I was born and raised here in canada myself.

Good job packing so much into your day. Your right, Baptist churches are good at feeding the body as well as the soul.

Home, sweet home

Saturday, August 21, 2010

I am finally home from Phoenix and loving being at home, I am tired, just had a quick nap before driving home after my nightshift. My son also had a youth group lock-in last night - laser tag and a waterpark so we are both taking it quietly! Watching Walker - Texas Ranger together!
Am still doing my strength exercises :)

I'm a nurse and just got back from out of town too. Sometimes I get so exhausted when I'm out of town I don't get enough sleep or eat like I should. I'm glad we both made it home!

Squats and Wall Push Ups

Saturday, August 21, 2010

OK so it is 11.30pm and I have just completed 50 wall push ups - oh I know that I am so going to feel this tomorrow :) I also did 20 squats but my legs were still a little sore from doing them yesterday too. emoticon So where do I log these exercises to get some credit for them? Are they strength exercises? I just have the steps and cardio on my fitness log.
Thanks
Christine

Go to MY TOOLS, MY FITNESS,
Click on ADD STRENGTH EXERCISE

Click on UPPER BODY
5th item down on right side is:
Close-Arm Wall Pushups
Click on that and it will add it to your workout. Go back to
MY Fitness Page and click the box to show you did it.

Hope that helps.

I think Squats should be there on lower body workout? Not sure

I am so ready to go home

Saturday, August 21, 2010

I am at work for my 3rd nightshift, I did not sleep very well today - not sure why, my cellphone woke me up @ 1230 and that was it - 3.5 hours of sleep! I then laid in bed and read a book! I had something to eat when I got up, got to work to find no patients in our unit tonight thus far, but because we are a pediatric ICU we have to have 2 nurses here just in case someone comes in......so here I sit staring at the other nurse emoticon emoticon
I have already been for a walk to the cafeteria, it has been under construction and has just re-opened - very nice too! They also do payroll deduction emoticon I got a cheese sandwich - well it was protein right?!? Anyhow I have logged all the food that I have had today and I still have calories left.....I count midnight to midnight so I still have 3 hours left!
I have been for a walk to see some friends on another floor and will take a few walks during the night unless of course we get a patient! I have my pedometer on and it is not looking good......so far since midnight last night I have logged 3287 steps so need to get some walking in before midnight but will still be way short for today - oh well, may go do some squats and wall press ups in the other hallway where I can be alone!
Only 10 more hours to go! Then I will have a nap before driving 100 miles back to my family....my daughter is in the high school band and they are marching in the rodeo parade in the morning, so I will miss it, but will see them perform their routine at the high school football games.....they are a very good band and this year the theme is dragonslayer! I have seen lots of blogs lately about slaying the dragon, so it is very apt that she is getting us all dragonslayer shirts!
So that is my blog and yes I am blogging to get points LOL!

I worked as an ICU unit clerk for a number of years...yes it is always better (for us) to be busy than to have time on our hands...but I'm always glad when there are less people sick for their sakes.

Sounds like you are doing well on your Spark Plan. I was averaging 6000 steps on my pedometer, and then dislocated my hip (recent hip replacement) for the second time...so now am in a brace under doctor's orders to "STOP THAT!!" so the long walks are out for now...I miss it horribly and am very impatient to get going again. My eating has escalated to with my enforced inactivity and that is a bad combination.
Hope you get some sleep today...you need it!
Do you have today off? or Sunday? I hope so...get some rest and enjoy being home.

I got "called off" Wed night because of low census, so I'm glad it's not just us. But I agreed to being on call, and I usually don't sleep well on call, lie there and wait for the phone to ring. A night like you've described can seem sooooooo loooooong. Good luck with your walking and weight loss.

Its a tough job but somebody 's got to do it , right? (I work home health peds, nights of course and boy sitting here on this queen size bed with my shoes off watching my pt in the crib is "really tough" 14 hours of sitting on a soft bed can be a "Pain "at times LOL!) but I have my computer , a T V , and a phone to keep me company. What I do not have is someplace to walk . You are a luck girl! take care emoticon

I just caught this Post, I did not do much Sparking Friday.

Night Shift can be a Challenge under any circumstances, but I am glad you are getting in some walking and exercise. I hope you are getting some good rest before you head home.
