I am so ready to go home

Saturday, August 21, 2010

I am at work for my 3rd nightshift, I did not sleep very well today - not sure why, my cellphone woke me up @ 1230 and that was it - 3.5 hours of sleep! I then laid in bed and read a book! I had something to eat when I got up, got to work to find no patients in our unit tonight thus far, but because we are a pediatric ICU we have to have 2 nurses here just in case someone comes here I sit staring at the other nurse emoticon emoticon
I have already been for a walk to the cafeteria, it has been under construction and has just re-opened - very nice too! They also do payroll deduction emoticon I got a cheese sandwich - well it was protein right?!? Anyhow I have logged all the food that I have had today and I still have calories left.....I count midnight to midnight so I still have 3 hours left!
I have been for a walk to see some friends on another floor and will take a few walks during the night unless of course we get a patient! I have my pedometer on and it is not looking far since midnight last night I have logged 3287 steps so need to get some walking in before midnight but will still be way short for today - oh well, may go do some squats and wall press ups in the other hallway where I can be alone!
Only 10 more hours to go! Then I will have a nap before driving 100 miles back to my daughter is in the high school band and they are marching in the rodeo parade in the morning, so I will miss it, but will see them perform their routine at the high school football games.....they are a very good band and this year the theme is dragonslayer! I have seen lots of blogs lately about slaying the dragon, so it is very apt that she is getting us all dragonslayer shirts!
So that is my blog and yes I am blogging to get points LOL!

I worked as an ICU unit clerk for a number of years...yes it is always better (for us) to be busy than to have time on our hands...but I'm always glad when there are less people sick for their sakes.

Sounds like you are doing well on your Spark Plan. I was averaging 6000 steps on my pedometer, and then dislocated my hip (recent hip replacement) for the second now am in a brace under doctor's orders to "STOP THAT!!" so the long walks are out for now...I miss it horribly and am very impatient to get going again. My eating has escalated to with my enforced inactivity and that is a bad combination.
Hope you get some sleep need it!
Do you have today off? or Sunday? I hope so...get some rest and enjoy being home.

I got "called off" Wed night because of low census, so I'm glad it's not just us. But I agreed to being on call, and I usually don't sleep well on call, lie there and wait for the phone to ring. A night like you've described can seem sooooooo loooooong. Good luck with your walking and weight loss.

Its a tough job but somebody 's got to do it , right? (I work home health peds, nights of course and boy sitting here on this queen size bed with my shoes off watching my pt in the crib is "really tough" 14 hours of sitting on a soft bed can be a "Pain "at times LOL!) but I have my computer , a T V , and a phone to keep me company. What I do not have is someplace to walk . You are a luck girl! take care emoticon

I just caught this Post, I did not do much Sparking Friday.

Night Shift can be a Challenge under any circumstances, but I am glad you are getting in some walking and exercise. I hope you are getting some good rest before you head home.

All in a days work.....

Friday, August 20, 2010

My blog for August 19th, I know that this website is not the same time zone as me, I am on Mountain time
I am a nurse that works nights and last night I worked at a different hospital than usual...I was busy all night and got in my 10,000 steps as well as doing some squats per a challenge that I had got from my sparkteam :)
Today I had to sleep at a motel as I live so far away from work...first of all this was not a bad motel but my room was! The room had a smell to it and I got over that and prepared to go to bed when someone started banging on the door...what to do...answer it or not? Well, they were not going away so I opened the door to a couple looking for their daughter and she had been in that room...well they were not my parents and I was not their daughter, so they left and I went to sleep.
When I got up I did some more squats to meet the challenge, even doing some in the shower (I know TMI!!)
Then for the drive across town for my real job! Got a jamba juice and it was so good! I think I am getting addicted to them - Pomegranate Delight is my choice emoticon
Then once I got to work I went to Wendy's for a baked potato for dinner at work as I an working again tonight.....too many carbs today so am going for a better day today as it is all a fresh start.
Along with my squats I only got in 8728 steps today, but now restarting my pedometer. I did get in my 50 squats though and that was the challenge made by my sparkteam - made it!
On a high note, my daughter has been busy trying to get my husband an ipod for his birthday...we had got one the other day through ebay and it arrived today! She managed to nab it out of the mail before he saw I am away for work she is trying to keep it a secret until a get small feat for her!
So that has been my day....
Hoping for a quiet night at work, my patient is sleeping right now emoticon

I've worked away from home and stayed in a motel trying to sleep in the daytime. It was the pitts. Maid ignored the Do Not Disturb sign and knocked on the door all day. Had to stop staying at the motel and drive all rha way back home just to get some sleep. emoticon

Well that is what I am telling myself! Yesterday I did a challenge from one of my sparkteams - I was supposed to do 5 sets of 20 wall pushups, I did not get the whole 5 sets done but WOW! I can feel the burn today! Actually that is motivating me to do more! Have I gone crazy!?! I am going to be heading off to Curves once I get off here and I am looking forward to exercizing and doing some more challenges! CRAZY!!!! LOL!

Exercising can be addictive. I love it the more I do. It's not a chore for me. It used to be.

It is an amazing moment when this giant light bulb goes off and all of a sudden, you get that "I love exercising" feeling! You go from running for health reasons to running for the love of it...or whatever your passion is.

Very happy for you! emoticon

I am glad to now be home and I have been out in my garden.......I am excited to be able to pick my own produce! I picked beans, lettuce and my zucchini - the large one weighs 4.5 pounds! I also got my first tomato emoticon

Happy Birthday to my husband!

Monday, August 16, 2010

As I write this it is still the 15th here in AZ! It was my husbands birthday today and I am still away sleeping and working :( Tonight is my last night of working but tonight I am busier than my last 3, in the morning I will take a nap and then get up and drive 2 hours back to my family.
I am planning on having lunch with my husband on Tuesday as a late birthday celebration for just us while the children are at school. I miss my family so much when I am away working.....
Thank goodness for texting and cellphones!
I am planning on going to Curves later in the day tomorrow as they are closed until 3pm anyhow.
I am planning on splurging tonight on ice cream cake for one of our nurses tonight! My patients will help me run it off overnight!

I said Happy Birthday to Graham yesterday - then proceeded to say "I hear you are having ribs this afternoon" - which he knew nothing about. Oops! I thought about inviting him over for his birthday, but didn't think it would be appropriate for me, with my husband gone to invite your husband over with you gone. :.) Maybe we can celebrate at the same time as Rachel's. Does he like mashed potatoes???? :.)
