Day # 3 of January Jumpstart challenge!

Well, it is now day # 3 and I have been making ways to be more active! This morning went for my morning walk, managed to get my husband to walk with me! Made it more fun, looking at properties as we walked, I like to take different routes! Average speed 3.1mph, love the pedometer app on my phone emoticon

Entered my mileage on my fitness tracker and it tells me that so far this year I have walked 3.69999999997 miles!!!!! Haha! I am taking it as 3.7 miles :)

Walked twice before 9am!

WOW! I am getting a jumpstart on 2013 for sure! Am motivated by the January Jumpstart challenge! Yesterday was my first day and I worked out doing exercises while my husband and daughter made fun of me! But I didn't care! The cat also loved my exercise mat emoticon
Have to say though, by the end of my exercise session, my daughter was challenging me to see who could exercise the longest! 50 yo v 18yo! I won the wall sitting competition emoticon !
This morning I was up early, and while the 18 yo slept in, I went for a walk! I averaged 3.3miles/h - walked for 33 mins and clocked up 1.7miles! It was 34 degrees when I started out and I was stripping off layers as I walked! Once I got home, DH asked if I wanted to go up to the church with him, so while he worked on the youth group's bus, I walked the parking lot! emoticon Will try some home exercises later this evening :)

Also yesterday I drank 10 glasses of water! emoticon

    Good for you. My daughters (15 and 12) teased me up until the day we hit the nautilus equipment. Oh yeah, I showed them. Great job on the walk and workouts.

2013 is my year!

Wow! It is so long since I blogged! But I am back!
This morning I joined the January Jumpstart challenge and am excited to get started! I already have some dumb bells and am going to go get some resistance bands too.
I am tired of being overweight and feeling generally blah! emoticon So have decided to take 2013 as my year and strive to be as healthy as I can be! I am now 50 and want the rest of my life to have meaning and for me to be the best that I can be! emoticon
With God all things are possible! Matthew 19:26

My goals for 2013

Spend more time in God's word
Think before I eat
Assess hunger and pay attention to hunger signs before and while eating
Cut out soda
Exercise 3-5 times a week
Log food on SP
Lose 20 pounds by March 14th (my wedding anniversary)

    Great blog!! I'm with you--almost all the same goals except that for my first weight goal I want to have 14 pounds off by February 14th. ( I've decided to not say "Lose" weight because when I lose it I always seem to find it again--and it has friends!!) I am working on the soda now--NOT fun!!

You have very attainable goals--did you put them in you Other Goals Tracker? I did mine because I need the accountability.

Logged all my food!

OK, as promised I am reporting back on how my day went yesterday! I am pleased to report that I logged all my food and kept within my calorie and points range! But I did not do so well in the water department! I got in 5 drinks and that included coffee! Today I am determined to do better and I have a big cup with a straw beside me as I study! One cup is equivalent to 3 glasses and I am halfway through my first one! I have another full day of study ahead of me, so I will endeavour to keep the fluids up! emoticon

On another subject, this is quite freaky! But have you noticed the stalker on SP?! I am thinking that there must be a stalker or something because had you ever noticed that the advertisements are relevant to what is going on at the moment?? Weird huh? We have been looking at buying a new car and the ads keep coming up for that dealership!! Then earlier today I was looking at upgrading my cellphone and now I keep getting ads for the phone that I am thinking of getting! I love to drink green tea and yep! I am gettting green tea ads!!!!

Well, had better get back to the algebra! My class officially ends tomorrow at midnight

Ads are a funny thing.

Sometimes it is just the "my new car" effect in which we have something in mind and suddenly see it everywhere - as in getting a new car, not having seen many on the road, and suddenly everywhere you look someone has one.

Other times it IS the "stalker" type idea - but in the form of cookies. If you search and browse for information on cars and dealerships, that information may be available from your browser to the advertising, so that the ads can be tailored to what is expected to be of interest to you.

Counting Points again

I have not been on track for a while,I start off great then by the end of the day, I have fallen back into my old way of eating! emoticon I have no one to blame but myself, I just seem to of lost my motivation, so time to pull up my socks and take this seriously!!! emoticon I have pulled out all my old weight watcher books, journals and food counter! This morning I logged my breakfast and have 15 points left for the day, but have my meals all planned for the day. Crockpot is on for dinner. emoticon My problem is my water intake! But I plan on taking in 6 glasses at least today, adding some flavoring though to make it through!
I have another day of online algebra today.....this class finishes on Thursday and I have to take my final exam by Thursday night...the goal is in sight! This is all part of my masters degree in nursing emoticon
Will report back how my day went!

    I read somewhere recently that, as long as you still desire to be healthy, feel better, lose weight and/or look better, you still have your motivation. I think it just gets buried under all the other things we have to do in a day. But you are making strides and that is GREAT!!

Water is one of my big issues, too. It's not my friend. I don't like it and it doesn't like me. emoticon emoticon But I try really hard to get my 8 cups. One of my current secrets of water success is to have a big glass (about 16 oz) of ice water when I first get up in the morning. I have 2 water bottles (16 oz each) that I fill up and take to work everyday. I give myself a set time to finish off one bottle (usually by about 10:00 a.m.) then I give myself until the end of the work day to finish off the other (that's around 4:00 p.m.). Then I only have to have one more big glass before bedtime. (On the days that I go workout, I end up having a little extra.)

I don't know that I could work a full-time job and go to school and keep my sanity, much less maintain a healthy diet...so you are SO COOL in my book!

    emoticonIt is SO Easy and Tempting to fall back in to those old ways of eating!! I keep hoping that the temptation will go away, but it likes to Ambush you!!
emoticonI have found that it does help to say "OK, I'll eat whatever it is, but only AFTER I walk 10 minutes". Usually I end up walking longer, and when I get back the temptation is either Gone, or at least weak enough to resist it.

    I have found tracking my food and planning ahead - even just a day at a time (I cannot do the whole week, its impossible, my tastes and everything else change too much) - really help me stay 'on track'.
Congrats on sticking to it, even with all the other stuff going on (studying is a real time suck but in the end its worth it). What's in the crock pot?

    You are so dedicated to work on your Masters after work - I know it can be tough to work and go to school but the work will pay off. (The extra money you will make will help both immediately and over your work career and into social security days).

I hope using the food journals will help. The nutrition tracker on sparkpeople was the biggest help for me. Once I could actually see all in one place how much food I put in my mouth I began to limit my portions and it became much easier.

So my one question is... Do you have a work out buddy? Maybe someone from weight watchers or your work, Masters program? Two of you working together might help with the motivation and make it more fun.
