First Day of School

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

Well, it is offical, I have a high school senior and sophomore! School started back today and my house is way too quiet! It is almost 9am and I am missing them already! I am sure that I will get regular updates on how the day is going from my daughter the senior! She is hoping to change her schedule around today! My son, went off with his splint on - thanks to all those that prayed for him - we opted to not have a xray as the splint was helping and we are thinking it is a bad sprain. The doctor said that if he is still in pain in a couple of days that we could go get an xray. He seems to be using it a little more this morning.
I am back to work tonight, I agreed to come in early for the day nurse, I am going to be working 4.30P-7A, will be a long night! I will need to leave here around 2pm to get there on time! Am going to Zumba at 10, so will take a nap after that. I went to Zumba last night and was thrilled that I am getting it now! The steps were easier though I did not have on the right shoes - I wore my shape ups and my feet hurt! So I have my regular shoes for today!

We have our rodeo parade on August 20th and I signed up to be on the Curves float! My daughter is already in the parade for the high school marching band! This Saturday we are having a Queen's Tea Party at Curves - will be fun! We have been doing a challenge for attending and now we get a tea party!

Back to school drama....

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Well, here summer break is coming to an end..........tomorrow school starts! This year I have a senior (girl) and a sophomore (boy) emoticon My daughter is all packed and clothes chosen, ready for school. Son has just emptied his bag from all last years stuff - today!
Daughter had to have the meningitis booster shot and hepatitis A - emoticon Glad that is over! Son has to just have hep A but he is no problem in that department.

Yesterday, my son, went to an airsoft game (it is a shooting game) and he tripped, landing on his R) wrist! Well, he is left handed but is amazed how much he uses his right - no lego, no computer games...you get the picture! Anyhow I put a splint on it and called it a bad sprain, today it hurts more, but it is not swollen.......then I started to worry about it as I was due to go to work tonight and leave my husband to get them off to school in the morning......what if it is more than a sprain????? So anyhow we are off to the doctors this afternoon, but could not get in until late so I have called out for work tonight! I am sure we will end up getting xray etc. But am still diagnosing a sprain!! Better to be safe than sorry! The joys of boys!

I have been to Curves though emoticon and if I am finished with my son in time, want to go to Zumba this evening...might as well make the most of my extra night off work!

Well, it is one of those things where you do what is necessary just in case it is more than you think. "Better safe than sorry."

I hope you did get to Zumba!

Grain fed animals

Sunday, July 24, 2011

Hi, I am working on my next assignment for school...so thought that I would share a few things that I discovered while doing my study...I have previously mentioned the book "The Ominvore's Dilemma" By Michael Pollan.....well, anyhow.....I am writing my paper on diet and cardiovascular disease (yeah well I am a nurse!) - this is an advanced composition paper! I have written my position paper on omega-3. Was very interesting! Omega-6 which is produced in the seeds of plants while omega-3 is from in the leaves. The problem is when they are out of balance - a high ratio of omega-6 can lead to heart disease as this is an infalmmatory while onega-3 is the anti-inflammatory......are you still with me??? Here is the interesting part......

We are told that we should have fish and not beef to help with reducing high cholesterol...well in fact this could be untrue emoticon
The difference may be not in what meat we are eating as much as the diets of these animals! Beef that has a grain-fed diet as well as fish in fish farms where they are grain-fed have far less omega-3 than fish in the wild and cattle that are grass-fed.

Interesting huh? Or am I just weird! emoticon So we may be better off eating grass-fed beef rather than fish farmed fish.......food for thought!

While I know that farmed tilipia are safe, I only buy wild caught for all the others.

With little truly healthy pastured beef is very sparse and costly, I choose not to buy grain fed beef, period. Ditto on pork from Hormel, it is all injected with stuff! I'm also careful with poultry, since most is injected with salty broth, water with salt, etc.

I've always believed that the more natural the diet of the creatures we eat, the better! Stands to reason, in my opinion. :-)

It certainly makes one think that the "natural" diet for the animals helps them to be more healthful for us.

I agree grass fed beef is healthier, for most people Blood Type "o"s, especially.
Type A's would do better on the fish, avoiding beef, altogether if they can.
and best for B's to avoid chicken, and AB's to avoid it most of the time.

Remembering Melissa Ann

Saturday, July 23, 2011

Today is my first born, Melissa Ann's birthday. Today she would be 18, but God chose to call her home when she was 2 days old. She is always in my heart and we look forward to the day when we will all see her again. It certainly does not seem like 18 years ago. We love you Miss Melissa!

Friday, July 22, 2011

This morning I was up bright and early, at curves by 6.30am! Tried the zumba with circuit this morning! Normally I would do the class instead, but today gave it a whirl! Was great though at first I thought my arms were going to die! The machines are for 1 min and then do zumba for 1min the machine etc! Burned 491 calories!!! I will definetely be doing this again!
Now am enjoying my protein shake, have added frozen peaches to it - yum!

I love the Zumba! We actually don't even do the circuit anymore, we do straight Zumba for 30 min, so talk about an arm workout! Most of the time I do 2 back to back classes too. LOL I do the circuit before, and others do it afterwards. With doing both, I burn over 80 calories in an hour, can't beat that! Have a fab weekend!
