Making my meals :)

Thursday, October 28, 2010

I am still on track emoticon
I have been making my meals and snacks for the next 5 nights of working. Have made up a batch of tuna casserole (thanks Lexi for the idea).

Does anyone know how to track my sugar intake? So far today I have had 21g, I went to add it to my nutritional tracking, was able to add sodium but cannot see sugar - weird huh?

I am keeping a manual check at the moment

I just added sucrose and fructose as well. For some reason, none of the foods I am eating has the sucrose entered in the nutritional values. I had syrup today, it rang in as 0mg?

There are several kinds of sugar listed in the possible nutrients. You would probably have to track all of them and add them together, but unfortunately many items may not list them separately.

Fructose, Galactose, Glucose (dextrose), Lactose, Maltose, Sucrose are the names listed in the SP nutrient list that I see.

Just added sucrose but it is not counting my sugar :( So will just manually keep track for now

To track your sugar you need to add sucrose to the list of items tracked. Sucrose is the fancier name for table sugar. There are a lot of other kinds of sugars out there, but the primary one is sucrose.

I'm glad you're enjoying your tuna casseroles. :-) I wish I could help with the sugar tracking, but I have only used the basics on the tracker so far.

Little setback!

Thursday, October 28, 2010

So yesterday, I was full of good intentions! I was doing well until I had a work meeting in the town where I live and then they took me to a work lunch at Chilis! We it would not of been so bad, but normally these things are planned and I go online and check out the menu first, so I was unprepared! Iwas careful the rest of the day and the calories were not so bad, but it was not what I had planned! So today I am back on track and so far doing good. I am going to Curves very soon, am waiting for my husband to get back home with my truck! I work again tonight so will get a visitors pass so I can go to Curves while I am away.

I hear you! Those unexpected restaurant meals can really throw a wrench into your eating plans. But with practice, you can come through with flying colors. Some of them have designated WW or "healthy" meals on the meanu. If not, I look for something that's low fat and relatively unprocessed - nothing fried, no cream, etc.
You're doing awesome by not letting this derail you! You CAN do this!!

By the way, KiwiNurse, I hope your family in New Zealand has not been affected to badly by all the earthquakes. They have been unbelievable.

Back to Reality

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

emoticon Hi, vacation is well and truly over now, just worked 4 nights plus one on call! So work is back to normal so now it is time to get back on track with my eating too....

So I have come up with a plan....

I am going to eat more whole grains, try to keep my sugar intake around 48g/day and up my water intake, and log all my food. I still go to Curves but am also looking at increasing my excerise where I can.....

Sounds like a plan to me! I love Curves! I've added stationary biking to my routine (but not really by choice, its rehab for my knee!). I've actually come to enjoy sitting in front of the tv and getting 20-30 more minutes of exercise in (sometimes I do 2 reps of 20 minutes each-one in the morning and one in the evening).

Keep Sparkin' and you'll do great!

This is a very good plan and very realistic...i have just started eating whole wheat pastas and they are so filling and the cost isn't much different than the other kind....

    Carol, I appreciate your encouragement....

My plan is to eat whole grain bread, sunflower seeds, almonds, popcorn, low fat yogurt for snacks and desserts. I am going to include sodium and sugar intake in my logging of my foods.

I plan on trying for 10-12 glasses of water a day, cutting down on coffee (with flavored creamer) and flavored iced tea to keep to my water and keep the sugar intake down.

I will increase my exercise by walking as well as going to curves 3x week. I am going to include walking in my breaks at work, I can walk inside the hospital as I work nightshift :)

Thanks again
Christine

Your plan is good - you've got some great goals. So how are you going to implement them?
- When you say "up my water intake" - what is your daily water target? How are you going to get there?
- Which whole grains are you going to eat and how will you change you menu choices to get to that place?
I'm not trying to be pushy - just encouraging you to think in terms of specifics!
Have a great day!

Superior Band!

Sunday, October 24, 2010

I am so excited, my daughter is a high school junior and is a sectional leader in the high school band - yesterday they had a qualifying competition and they won a superior rating! We are all just so excited and proud of them all! We are just a small high school and so this is a HUGE achievement that they have all worked hard for....now we are off to state! The state competition is on November 6th and you can be sure that this band mom will be there! Did I mention how excited we are :)

Vacation is over!

Friday, October 22, 2010

Well, we have had a good visit (for the most part) with my niece on her first trip to the USA from New Zealand. She was here for 3 weeks and returned to New Zealand this evening.....actually she is still in the air!
We went to Disneyland, had fun even though it rained the whole time. We have shopped and shopped, she went home with 2 bags as well as her carry on bag. I loaded her down with gifts for my family back in New Zealand :)
We introduced her to turkey and pumpkin pie! She was not thrilled about trying the pumpkin pie - but peer pressure works wonders! emoticon
We went bowling and had a blast! Got in alot of exercise points that day!
I continued to go to Curves during her stay :) I joined the weight loss challenge at my curves.
So now it is back to reality and work.......

I'm just astounded about pumpkin pie--I love it so much it's hard to wrap my head around someone having to be pushed to try it, LOL!
