October goals

Monday, October 01, 2012

After evaluating my September goals and my varied successes at meeting them, here are the goals that I have set for October:

1. To weigh 229 by October 31. (This would be a 7 pound weight loss for the month, I lost 5 in Sept. and 4 each in Aug. and Jul., so this goal is pushing me beyond what I have accomplished in the past, but push I will!!)

2. To walk/jog a total of at least 18 miles each week. (This is three miles more than my weekly goal for Sept. and I have decided not to split it between outside and videos because at this time of year, I want to be outside as much as possible.)

3. To do 30 squats, bicycle crunches and push-ups daily.

4. 100% attendance to SparkPeople for the month of October. And to give a SparkGoodie, with a positive message, to someone outside of my circle of SparkFriends at least once each week.

5. Track my food eaten daily, and stay within the recommended ranges for total calories
carbs, fat, and protein.

6. Progress report in my blog every Monday. (Hopefully Monday progress reports will do a better job of keeping me accountable on the weekends than the Friday PR's did in Sept.)

A big emoticon to all who have encouraged me through September - I appreciate your support!! emoticon

May we all find joy, peace, encouragement and success in October!!

I love your goal of sending a goodie to someone outside your circle. It's so easy to stick to our comfort zones, but I know how excites I feel when someone I don't normally speak to on here makes the effort to connect, so I know how much that can mean to boost someone else's day. I'm going to make that one of my weekly, or daily, goals too :)

These are wonderful goals - you are pushing yourself, but not expecting unrealistic results. I love that you include things like "perfect attendance" and "send a spark goodie" in your list. It's easy to forget those kinds of things that are really motivating.

Sept. Goals Progress Report - week 4

Friday, September 28, 2012

1. To weigh 230 by Oct. 3
I think that I am going to have to officially call this goal a lost cause - I weighed in today at 236. It is a 1 pound loss from last week and a total of 5 pounds for September. 5 pounds lost is definitely a good achievement, but I will still strive for more in October.

2. To walk at least 6 miles outside each week, and at least 9 with the WATP videos, for at least 15 miles total each week.
emoticon I walked 8+ outside and 10 with the videos.

3. To do at least 10 minutes of cardio and 10 minutes of body-weight exercises before my first cup of coffee at least 4 days/week.
emoticon I actually accomplished this for the first time this week!! I am going to re-think this for October. Adding 20 minutes of exercise was cutting into either my sleep time or my morning meditation time. Since, I know that I am a better person when I sleep enough and make the time for prayer to start my day, I am not willing to give up either, even for another good - like exercise.

4. 100% attendance to Sparkpeople for the month of September. emoticon
Earn at least 2500 SparkPoints for the month. emoticon

5. Track my food eaten daily, emoticon
and stay within the recommended ranges for total calories emoticon
carbs, emoticon
fat, - I was over one day on fat
protein - I was under one day on protein

6. Progress report in my blog every Friday. emoticon

I definitely liked this method of keeping myself accountable, so I will post goals for October and continue to report my progress in my blog!

Embracing today!

Friday, September 28, 2012

"He has made everything appropriate to its time,
and has put the timeless into their hearts..."

The reading I used for my morning meditation today is from the Book of Ecclesiates. (Think of the Byrds song "Turn! Turn! Turn!) The words fit very well with what was in my mind and heart when I resolved to embrace today recognizing all of the beauty, goodness and joy that is a part of my life today.

Experiences of Beauty, Joy and Goodness are timeless - they touch our hearts in a moment and stay with us long after the moment passes. Having experienced them once, we are more open to receiving them again, and we anticipate finding them anew.

Today I let my heart be filled by the beauty of the sun rising on a cloudy morning. I embraced the joy of feeling a cool breeze and hearing the birds sing as I walked to work. And I look forward to recognizing the goodness in my coworkers and appreciating their presence in my life.

The others will be showing up for work soon, I'll let you know how that last one goes later!! emoticon

Deep thoughts - well, deep enough for a Thursday evening : )

Today my work-life has slowed down from fever-pitched insanity emoticon emoticon back to its "normal" crazy boil! emoticon There may be a bit of exaggeration in that last sentence but not too much!! emoticon I work in an office that is always busy, and my days are generally peppered with changes to my agenda for the day. Most of the time that is really okay with me. Right now, I am just sick of it all. emoticon I am working hard to overcome this dread of my workweek, dreading the sight of the office building, my desk, my boss, my coworkers, the sound of the telephone or the door bell or the voices of my coworkers...

For the last couple of weeks it has taken every ounce of my energy just to do what needed to be done, so there really wasn't a moment to spare feeling sorry for myself or dwelling on how much certain situations and people annoy me. Today the work load lightened up a little bit. It gave me a little room to breath, and time to think. And all the annoyances that I have been able to push away to keep my focus came crashing back into my world!

Some of the frustration I was able to channel into something good: after a particularly annoying phone conversation this morning, I took some mail to the mailbox a couple of blocks away instead of leaving it for the courier to bring to the post office in the morning. My lunch break included four miles of a Leslie Sansone 5-mile walk video (and I did 3 more miles after work).

Much of the day I spent counting down the hours until Friday 5 pm... Anticipating the weekend because I have some fabulous plans is one thing but anticipating the weekend simply because I can't stand to be at work is not how I want to live!!

My goal for tomorrow is to enjoy the day on its own merit - not because it is the gateway to the weekend. Every day is filled with gifts. Today it was not easy for me to remember that. Tomorrow I intend to have my eyes, ears and heart open to the beauty and joy that is just waiting to be embraced.

so sorry you are not having a great time at work I am so glad you went out of your way to go bring the mail sometimes a change of scenery does wonders and cut the stress.. I feel for you I work with two other people that are best friends that wont let me forget that. they go to lunch and breaks together and talk all day. I just try to find the little things i like about work and hold on and savour that moment. Just try to better yourself , I play little games while they are chating away I try to write neater, I try to be faster, if I can better myself I can ignore them more. You are a special unique person and deserve to have some good times at your job, even if you have to almost make it another job to do it. emoticon emoticon

Kiwiann - sounds like a pretty rough day!!! Wish I was right there to take you out to dinner, or dessert, or coffee/cider/cocoa ~ something!! It is not fun when you experience this degree of distress at work. There it is again!! That need for a magic wand!!!!
emoticon

I feel emotional for you/with you because it feels like your heart is about to burst through my computer screen! I am so sorry it has been so frantic. [I need Angela's great sense of humor to make you laugh ~ she's so good at that ~ me, not so much...*smiling!*]
emoticon

What I can offer is my concern and my support, and my sense of your strength coming through there at the end...You ARE strong...And it is a very powerful choice to take the day on its own merits...Good job taking care of YOU to open eyes, ears and heart to the beauty...THAT takes a huge amount of courage and commitment. I will be cheering for your day tomorrow to be ever so much better than today. Keep us posted on how you are doing!!! [Can you feel my hug?!]

Sept. Progress Report - week 3

Friday, September 21, 2012

1. To weigh 230 by Oct. 3
Weighed in on Wednesday at 237 - not looking terribly promising to meet that goal of 230, but I will keep striving.

2. To walk at least 6 miles outside each week, and at least 9 with the WATP videos, for at least 15 miles total each week.
Goal not quite met - I walked 9 miles outside and 7 with the videos, so still exceeded total mileage for the week, but didn't get quite as intense calorie burn.

3. To do at least 10 minutes of cardio and 10 minutes of body-weight exercises before my first cup of coffee at least 4 days/week.

4. 100% attendance to Sparkpeople for the month of September. Earn at least 2500 SparkPoints for the month.
emoticon finally managed to get in 4/4 - they were Sat., Sun, Thurs. & Fri. not ideally spaced but that isn't required to meet the goal emoticon

5. Track my food eaten daily, emoticon
and stay within the recommended ranges for total calories, - exceeded by 218 calories 1 day, but average for week is in the range. And the excess day was yesterday with a turtle sundae ice cream bar that I enjoyed so well that I can't even regret it!! (sorry, just being honest!)

carbs, emoticon
fat, exceeded target range 2 days this week
protein, below target range 2 days this week

6. Progress report in my blog every Friday. emoticon

And now it is officially the weekend and I have every intention of enjoying it to the full!! emoticon emoticon
Have a great weekend all!! emoticon

7 pounds is a LOT for that short of a time!! Setting challenging realistic goals wins the race. Do you use the nutrition tracker to plan meals or record them after you eat them? It has really helped me to use it to plan my meals. But I usually have the problem of being under calories, or if I manage to plan enough, then I'm not able to eat it all. I find I'm stuffed.

And they just upped my calorie range. I'm doomed. I guess I'm being too active. Me!! too active. If someone fell in front of me, I couldn't run to them. I'd go, but I'd hobble over.
