rainy Saturday

Saturday, August 11, 2012

More rain today, but we sure need it...
Not much going on here, trying to get this weight down...lost 3 pounds last week then yesterday it was back. I need to stop this, instead of a downward spiral I'm going up....I am going to stop the watermelon, that is the only thing that I have added to my daily meal fact some one told me it's a free food, that it takes more calories to digest then you eat....
It is getting me very frustrated, I do know I'm not burning as many calories as when I worked I am going to have to find a balance of less food and more exercise...because the bottom line is if I'm gaining weight I am eating to excuses.....time to get a handle on this, of course eating out does not help either.

Going to the fair tomorrow with one of my sisters and BIL and Gary of course so hope the rain stops and the temps stay cool.

Have a healthy week end

We've been having thunderstorms off and on all day. We need the rain too. Kitt, I'm sure you will get that weight off again. You've been under a lot of stress before, during, and after your move. I'm sure you will find the right combination to get you back to where you need to be. Have fun at the fair!

Today was day 4 of the Spark Coach feature, so far it seems to be more geared to the new people. You have to join and pay to be able to ask a coach a question.....I'm going to see how it goes after my two week free feature.

Today was a good day, had a good workout and went shopping most of the day with my sister. My brother came over and visited with Gary....

We even had a little rain, it has been a bit cooler today too...

well I am off to watch the olympics...I will be happy when its over...

have a healthy week end

I agree that the Spark Coach seems more geared to newbies. I'm trying to decide if I need the email coaching, or if I have enough tools at hand that I can work through my questions.

Have a great day!

I too am doing the Spark coach I have actually learned a lot. I was never able to set up my tracker I loved the old one but every time I added an exercise it wiped out my entire program. I wanted to ask a coach but I am not going to till I have evaluated it better.
I think I will do 3 months and get set up for fitness better than I have. HUGS Pat in Maine.
I hope you are settling in well.
Tomorrow I am going up to Bangor hoping to meet up with REL we tried 2 years ago and I saw her but she did not look like I expected and she never recognized me so wish me luck in finding REL tomorrow. Pat in Maine.

What do you think

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

I'm wondering what everyone thinking about the new features here on spark people....

Do you think it will help those of us that have been here for me
or those of use who have reached our goals....but struggle staying there...

I'm trying the 2 week free trail then see if it will help with maintenance ...I don't think the price is too bad if it helps with accountability and motivation for maintenance....

what do you think, what have I not thought about

I am excited about the new features as it means Spark People is trying to keep us motivated and looking forward for things that work for us.... How do you feel about it..

it might be to late but people have asked the price and I read this on a board so not sure it is 100% correct...the coast is 7.99 a month or 3 months for 15.00...not bad if it meets your needs.....

I just heard back from coach Jenn the price will be 7.99 a month and maybe some months there will be specials like 3 months for 15.oo so for now it is going to be 7.99 a month...according to her posting.

I for one liked what I saw today. I know they will add actual coach sessions as the days progress since this is early on in the program. Today's help was really more of an intro to the program which is cool. These next two weeks will show whether it will be beneficial to everyone of just a select few.

For anyone I was offered 14.99 for three months OR 7.99 a month to "email a coach" for me to personally talk through my issues with professionals I do not feel the price is too much. I look at it this way...

I pay $8.00 for sit on my butt and get bigger I can definitely invest the same amount in my future to a smaller fitter happier me.

You get out of a program what you put in so if you need more help you need to ask for it. I like the fact that I will get advice from coaches to motivate me because all too often on spark I see more excuses and negativity in blogs than helpful info.

Kitt...Keep us up to date on how you feel about the program. I know I will be updating my blog and feed with how it works.

For some people on here it just might be the kick in the butt they need.

I like the site the way that it is..I signed up for the 2 week free trial but I seriously feel like my sparkfriends motivate me more then just listening to coaches talk..If it helps a person to be accountable and lose or maintain their weight then by all means do it BUT for me I love the old free Sparkpeople it has so many tools I can't even use them all now..Have a wonderful sparked day emoticon emoticon

I was wondering that too - I hope they don't start charging for the features we already have -that it is just add on. I did not sign up for the trial yet - mostly because I could not find the charge after the free period. $8 a month sounds like a bargain if it is worthwhile.
Weird this is that right now I am really motivated so I don't know if I need an extra layer of complexity. Look forward to hearing what others think

I also was asking about price and didn't know it they were working out a tier structure (more coaching, more cost) or not. $2 a week is cheap for the time you save in planning your week through coaching -- I've had trouble losing this year despite good intentions, so will probably invest for myself.

Haven't checked it out, but for those who need an extra push and can't go / or won't go to a gym etc. this could be the answer for them. I don't feel the cost is over the moon, $7.99 is doable.

I need to go see what it's all about and will let you know later.

KITT I honestly feel that those of us who are not really in to the gym mentality will not be served as much as I would like. There are many out of shape people who really need help with this but we do not really get that help with the very youthful excellent coaches. I am not being derogatory just very realistic at 68 years young it has to be difficult to help us, many of us have more special needs.
I used to use the old tracker. I lost it when I tried the new one I totally cannot get my new one set up.
I vowed after our anniversary, which happened this week, I was going to do this. I checked it out and went to my spark points with 621 points. I panicked I am in a campground in Acadia with spotty service. Then when I finally got e-mails it was 500 points for joining OOPS!
Once we are home I will write a note to experts and let them know my thoughts.
Without a better understanding of fitness and better gym mentality many of us who do need help with fitness will still have to buy an expensive gym membership.
I hope the need for "THE REST OF US" who struggle with fitness can be better served at the price.
We are called beginners but we are not exposed to real fitness basics knowledge to understand about the fitness tracker.
It is an amazing opportunity for the younger slim marathon runners but I can only walk a 5K.
You asked I answered I still love Spark and I might be incorrect in my thoughts I just cannot figure out where teams of older. less fit but trying will be able to be well accommodated. I hope you read and expand on your thoughts, please let me know. HUGS Pat in Maine.

I think that this is the best idea that Sparks has had in the 3 years that I have belonged. I wish that they had it in the very beginning. It sure would have made things easier for me and I think it may even help me now. When you consider what a PT costs, this is a steal. emoticon

Monday Morning

Good start to the day, got in 66 minutes of walking and 25 weight training

I decided to try something new with my spark plan, as most know I plan my meals about a week in advanced and post them on my tracker, so now I'm going to print off my daily menu and bring to the kitchen, so I can see what I should be eating, and the right serving size....some days I forget something or add something or get the wrong amount....I am trying to become more accountable for my food, seems exercise is good ...

I read an interesting article about why we gain weight even when we feel like we are doing our best...
I do not fool myself, I know when I have eaten more calories than I should but need to see it in black and white, seems I can then do better....
I did this yesterday and it worked well....
I'm trying to loose the weight I gained after having some changes in my personal life, and so far things are going very well, dropping about 3 pounds last week....
weighing my food seems to really help keep my portions where they should be, using grams seem better than's easy to add a bit more, and all those little bits add up at the end of the week..

well find what works for you and stick with it...

Have a healthy day...

another healthy week begins

Sunday, August 05, 2012

Another healthy week begins.
Today is my planning day, looking for a few new recipes that are light and easy, it has been hot and humid here, we did get some rain last night but it feels even more humid....

Yesterday was a good day, I walked for 60 minutes, got in some weight lifting, then went to a farmers market, got a few days of fresh veggies...then spent the rest of the day with family.
Sister and I did some shopping, we do a lot of then we had dinner there, I did good had a burger wrapped in lettuce, I have learned to love it this way with tomato, and onions...a medium corn on the cob, no butter or salt...once again I have learned to eat my food naked.... emoticon
did have 1/2 cup of lower cal ice cream...
today I'll get some down time to plan my week, and still get some moderate exercise...
I'm also going to get a list going for my rewards, I use to do this and going back to keep me motivated, not working and getting that socialization seems to make me less motivated, so maybe rewards will help...this journey is all about tweaking the plan when things seem to be slipping back to old habit or lack of motivation...

So what will you do this week to in sure you stay on track and keep your plan moving toward your goals....did you make goals...are you at the top of your priority list?

Have a positive healthy week, you are worth all the effort you put in your self.
