It's So Hot In North Carolina!

Saturday, July 24, 2010

It was crazy hot here today, but despite that I had lots of errands to run including a few yard sales I went to that meant I was out in the hot & humid air constantly throughout the day.

The positive thing was that I got clothes for 25 cents each so I suppose it was worth all the sweat, LOL. I got my daughter a very nice winter coat for $2 and the people that were selling it were shocked that it had taken so long to sell since it was so nice and a great deal. I know it had to be the heat, most people don't want to buy winter clothes in the brutal hot sun, but I try to buy ahead a size so I'm not left having to pay full price for something the following season.

I may not find another great deal like that before winter and although it doesn't feel like it, it will be here eventually.

I'm so worn out though that I think I will just relax and read some of the cookbooks I got from the library recently and just chill out with a cool drink and the ceiling fan blowing on me.

Caroline - It sounds like you were very productive with your time. I started copying pictures onto the computer since they weren't digital a few months ago but haven't had time to continue doing it. It's very a very tedious and boring activity let me tell you!

The kids and my hubby eat pretty much the same thing but my meals are almost always different from theirs since they aren't willing to eat what I do. I probably had chicken sausage (from Sam's Club) that is pretty low in fat along with black bean/corn salsa and hummus.

I love sweet potatoes, your dinner sounds like it was very yummy!

You did better than me yesterday! The humidity here was insane! I spent most of my time online and trying to organize 2 file boxes of photos and stuff from my DH's childhood that his mother dumped on us last month. We're talking 1974 kindergarten Santa hats with cotton ball edging that had molded! But also the only picture my husband has ever seen of him, his mom and his real father together! So the bitter and the sweet.

We ended our day with homemade chicken / onion sausages from the neighborhood fruit/veg market and nuked sweet potatoes. What did you have?

Internet Connection Down All Day - Grrrrrr!!!

Friday, July 23, 2010

This has been a very frustrating day for me as I have had no phone or internet service since I got up this morning. I waited all day for the cable man to come to our house to check it out and after he got here late this afternoon he told me that there wasn't anything wrong with my inside connection it was with the outside connection.

That meant after he left we had to wait for another cable man to come by and fix that so after early this morning we finally have both phone and internet!!!!

The hardest part was knowing I couldn't get online and figure out how many calories I had eaten all day and I just don't feel confident enough to do it without logging what I eat each day. One of these days I may relax, but I'm too afraid of not losing or gaining so would rather have the confidence of knowing what my calorie intake is each day.

I also didn't want to mess up my perfect attendance on Spark People so I was panicing a little bit, LOL.

One good thing is that I really cleaned my bedroom pretty well (that's where our cable modem is so didn't want anyone seeing how bad my bedroom looked) since I couldn't get online and got the house cleaned to the point I had nothing else to do.

We've been noticing that our air conditioner is not cooling like it used to either and I'm not sure if it's the air conditioner or it's the weather since it got close to 100 degrees today. Time as you go outside you are covered in sweat so it's pretty miserable.

I am glad you finally got it back. We do get so dependent on the internet.

I know, I'm so dependent on the internet so it was very difficult for me to not be able to get online. I could live without a lot of luxuries (and I do, LOL) but internet is one of my most important luxuries that I think are a must have.

I do so much research and communication that way, LOL.

Amazing how dependent we become on technology. I miss the "connection" with others when I lose my internet connection.

Hate When I'm Overly Hungry.

Thursday, July 22, 2010

I am feeling very bloated and out of energy today (time of the month). It's been a struggle to do anything but I managed to get the kid's meals, laundry, and other things done but definitely not doing major cleaning or anything like that today.

We finished watching the PBS dvds about Colonial House and it really gave the kids a better understanding of what life would have perhaps been like back then. We did a timeline of events during that time and read a book about what life was like for Colonial women.

It's so humid here as well and that just zaps all energy from you it seems. My darling husband made home made cookies last night, not something that normally tempts me at all, but I always seem to be much hungrier around this time and I didn't give in temptation at all, but it was hard to not go over my recommended calorie intake yesterday.

I'm not really craving junk food, it's more savory foods like chili, etc. but the thing is I want tons of it! LOL This will pass in a few days, but I'm trying to drink more hoping that will help with the issue.

I think I will make myself a yummy egg & cheese wrap (whole wheat tortilla) with turkey bacon for dinner and hopefully all that protein will help as well.

Thanks, I'm trying hard to stay within my calories and so far, knock on wood, I have, but it's so hard around this time of the month.

I eat Greek yogurt every day and even that (and all the other protein and fat I'm eating) isn't working too well, but I expect it so will live through it.

oh man I feel your pain (hunger pains that is) When its that tme, I could graze like its my job. And I like savory things too, or sometimes salty, and tons of it!! I try very hard to keep the reins in on it, wish you luck!! You can do it!

Try some Greek Yogurt or drink a glass of milk! The extra protein in the Greek Yogurt will help you feel full longer, just get a flavored kind or one with fruit at the bottom you can mix together. Also, nothing like exercise can beat the TOM blues :):)

I Can Actually Put on My "Skinny" Pants!

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

Since I have not been very successful finding transition pants as I continue on my journey to lose weight, I decided to pull out the container of clothes I have saved for years that were pants I wore at my lowest weight of 129.

They are all size 10's so I figured I would be taking them right back out to the shed again until I lost the last 17 pounds. I figured if nothing else I would know how much I had lost since it seems not that many people in real life have commented about it to me including my best friend who has not uttered one word about it. My husband is amazed that not that many people have said anything because he can really notice it and he, being a typical man, doesn't notice things that well, LOL.

I will point out and say that the majority of pants that I wear regardless of what my weight is are draw string because I have a very hard time fitting my waist when I get pants to fit my hips. In other words, if they fit my hips they fall off of my waist big time.

Even when I was 129 pounds I had the same issue so those were the majority of pants I bought to help with that issue. In other words, they aren't regular pants (other than the jeans) but still, I couldn't wear those suckers 25 pounds ago at all. Again, they are not super comfortable, but I could wear most of them in a pinch if I had to.

I was able to put on every single pair of pants I used to wear and I am in shock. I had size 10 jeans (not drawstring of course) that I can actually wear although they are a tiny bit tight in the tummy. Then again, my period is beginning and that could be the issue as well.

There are capri pants that I have that I could wear although they are not as comfortable as the slightly baggy ones I'm wearing now. That is so awesome that I can actually put them on though!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are two pairs that I can get on but they are a little more uncomfortable and since they are long pants anyway, I'm hoping they will fit great when we actually get cool/cold weather again.

If I hadn't experienced difficulty finding some transition pants I don't think I would drug this container of clothes out of storage. Now I'm so glad I kept these clothes although for years I debated getting rid of them because I never dreamed I would get even close to my goal weight again.

I am continuing to clear out my closet since I hope to get some really cute things when I get to my goal weight and yesterday I tried on a dress I had for some time in my closet. It fit fine (score!!!) but my daughter laughed at the style since it had shoulder pads in it. Although it fits, it's definitely going in the "Good Will" pile to make room for more up to date clothes.

Thanks everyone, I'm still in shock that I can actually get them on and over my bottom (my problem area), LOL!

I really didn't expect to be able to wear them at this point since I wore them when I was 129. I don't know if my body is changing as I get older or what is going on, but I'll take it.

Still Looking for Transition Pants & Project With The Kids

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

I decided to dig out a History Pockets unit study book I bought years ago but never used to cover this summer with the kids. It's a fun activity where they learn more about Colonial America and get to do crafts as they learn.

I went online and ordered some cool books on the subject from our local library including a PBS series dvd I remember watching on PBS a few years ago titled "Colonial House". They took present day people and put them in different roles/classes and they were forced to live (within reason) that particular time period. I think the kids will get a lot more out of that and the fun unit study we're doing than just reading about it in a book. I hope so anyway. :-)

I went to my closest thrift store yesterday with the kids hoping to find myself some "temporary" capri pants since some of mine are getting a little baggy but the next size is too tight, but didn't have any success with that unfortunately. I did find my daughter a very nice pair of dress khakis for 87 cents (were $3.50 but they were 75% off) that looked brand new and had an adjustable waist which she always needs since she is shaped like me (small waist and larger hips, although she doesn't have large hips by no means).

I also found her a cute brand new cosmetic bag (been looking all over the world for one of those and it's been so hard to find) for 10 cents that she can keep all the sparkly lip gloss I bought her recently. She is thrilled to death because it makes her feel "grown up" to put on her pink sparkly lip gloss. :-)

I've been going to Ross Dress for Less on the weekends to different Ross's around me, but no success there either so I'm still on the look-out. I don't want to pay a lot since I still have more weight to lose.

I was just browsing my local library online site and saw they had a Trader Joe's cookbook which is awesome! That is my favorite grocery store and I have lost most of my weight by eating a lot of things from there. I can't wait to get it and if I love it I'll be happy to order it from Amazon as a reward to myself for the hard work I've done.

Thanks for the suggestion, we do have a Kohl's near us. I am exactly like you, Liz Claiborne fits me so much better than other brands. I have a lot of her shirts because of that very reason.

If there is a Kohl's in your area, they often have fabulous sales and I've gotten lots of shorts, shirts, pants, and even workout clothes (once I gave up the baggy sweats) for as little as $5. Their store brand is great and I am particularly fond of Liz Claiborne (sp?) pants...it's as if Liz made them for me! (bigger in the hips than many, but a normal waist).

Best of luck!
