President Coming to Visit My Part of NC & Organizing

Wednesday, March 07, 2012

President Obama is supposed to come to a town not far from me today in North Carolina. I'm just happy that I don't have to get on the interstate during that time because I know it will be a major lock-up of traffic!

Tomorrow is my drop-off for the first church consignment sale that I'm selling at so I have to get rocking today. I got some tagging done yesterday, but it took me forever just to get the house cleaned due to all the running around we've been doing lately.

I got some tagging done as I mentioned, but a friend (who I love but talks a LOT) called and it was hard to get things done. It's one of my least favorite things to do (tagging) which is why I probably procrastinate so much. I know I'd be less stressed out if I just got in and took care of it, but I'd seriously rather clean toilets than do this, LOL. emoticon

I'm so happy (yes, it takes very little to do that, LOL) because I finally got my horrible linen hall closet straightened out. I took a drawer organizer (large one with lots of different sections in it) that I got from IKEA to put small things in on one of the shelves.

It wouldn't fit in my bedroom chest or dresser drawers but fit perfectly on one of my linen closet shelves. I'm in love!! Here's a link to what I got:

ts/60210552/

I can see another IKEA trip in the near future, but it will have to be on a Sunday as my next two Saturdays are going to be dealing with the church consignment sales.

They have helped me get my house so much more organized at a very frugal price and I love that place so much! Apparently I'm not alone as I have been searching Pinterest lately hoping to find more organizing ideas and IKEA is a popular way to organize.

Dbelle - I "think" so, but not sure if it was here in the Charlotte area though. I forgot to mention that we also had Donald Trump here too, he's trying to purchase some golf club in the area.

Yeah, wasn't his wife just in NC last Friday. I beleive that's when my husband say he saw her traveling in a motorcade, approximately 20 law enforcement vehicles.

I like it a lot too although I was getting a little panicky when it wouldn't fit in any of my drawers. It's great for the linen closet since it has so many dividers built in to it. emoticon

Susan - Yeah, it's not far from me either (Mt. Holly). I hope you get down the interstate okay, I sure wouldn't want to be on it when he comes through the area. I'm surprised that he's coming to such a small town in North Carolina vs. going to Charlotte.

Thanks, I'm working on my tagging now because I HAVE to do it, not because I want to, LOL.

I'm trying to schedule my day so I can avoid the presidential traffic!!! Mt. Holly is right down the road from me and I have to go to Charlotte at around the same time he'll be coming - I just hope I can get down I-85 without any problems!!!!

Good luck on getting your tagging done!

Procrastinating But Still Working Hard

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

I am usually not a procrastinator, but it seems that I am being one this go around as I have so much to do that the church consignment sale tagging is not getting done. I've been so busy lately that the house has been neglected, not to mention the chaos of the entire house as I am sorting clothes, decluttering, organizing, etc.

I finally just now got the house cleaned to a reasonable level and have been working on it all morning and now past 2:30 p.m. emoticon

I am going to make myself stop and take care of this labeling once and for all if I ever want to have anything to drop for sale this Thursday, LOL. I would love to get rid of this stuff and bring in a little extra money for the household. This has to be one of my least favorite things to do, but I do enjoy getting rid of a few things and making some money. I just dislike all the hard work involved in getting to that point, LOL.

Sometimes I think it would be easier to just drop it all off at Good Will but there is always the money factor where I want to get new carpet (not that I would EVER make enough for that, LOL), I want to paint my daughter's room and get new bedding, etc.

I forgot to mention that I got a very nice ladies watch the other day at Mighty Dollar for $1. I know it sounds like I got a piece of junk to pay only that amount, but this store is so amazing the things they have for $1! My friend is already planning to go this Saturday and wants me to go with her. I don't think she will have to persuade me too much!

Found Some Great Bargains Yesterday!

Monday, March 05, 2012

I finally got some tagging done yesterday on the kids' clothes that I plan to take to the church consignment sales this week and next. A friend called me and wanted to know if I wanted to meet her at Mighty Dollar (yeah, she finally listened to me and is now hooked on that store, LOL) and see what new things they had since she went by there Friday. emoticon

Of course I did since I would most probably have gone by there today with my daughter since she has piano lessons and Mighty Dollar isn't too far away from where she takes them. We both were about to scream when we got there because there were tons of great deals that weren't there the last time we went.

We got some Progressive brand items including a very large cutting board that has "troughs" in it so that any liquid goes in it. This isn't one of those flimsy, small boards, but one that I've seen sell for way more than the $1 we paid.

They had cake stands that swiveled (got 2 of those babies), Progressive grip and grate (it has a metal barrel in it that you crank to grate chocolate, cheese, etc.), Progressive apple cutter, a super nice over the door rack that has 5 hooks on it, etc.

We felt like we had hit the jackpot for sure! I kept telling her that she needed to go by there because the items they got in there were things you pay a lot of money for at Target, Ross, etc. Now she's addicted like me! emoticon

She had to pick up her son from an event after that so we went our separate ways, so I grabbed a small chili from Wendy's and then headed to Home Depot and got a new light for our pantry, which looks way better than the tube-type fluorescent light that was originally put in there.

I ran by Ross Dress for Less to see what new items they had there since it had been a while since I looked at shoes and other items and I hit the jackpot there as well. I've been looking for some summer sandals as shoes are something that are so hard for me to find that fit my weird feet.

I found two pairs of Clark's sandals (normally around $80-$100 a pair) for $30 a pair and I'm thrilled! These are the most comfortable shoes ever and I can't believe I found two pairs!

Most definitely you have to look out for each other in this crazy economy. I look at any money saved the same way you do. It's more money to pay off any bills or future bills, items that we need, etc.

My sister-in-law phoned me last night. We were talking about food prices and I told her I couldn't believe that I saw 5 ounces of tuna for 1.09 for regular tuna. She got a Save a Lot ad and called me this morning to say they had it for 79 cents. She said, "I had to laugh! You said how much it costs and I opened the ad and that was the first thing I noticed!" It is good that you have a friend that can call you about bargains she sees.

I look at any money that we save as money that will get my husband to work with the gas prices being so high.

Healthy Eating

Sunday, March 04, 2012

So I got a call from my father checking on us to see if we were harmed by the bad storms that came through. Luckily we weren't, but it got my father on the topic of health and food, etc.

He tends to be a little "preachy" about diet and what you eat and I told him that I had cauliflower, Greek yogurt, almonds, tomato soup (Trader Joe's organic), etc. for dinner (when he called) and while I don't eat the healthiest in the world, I eat pretty healthy. I get picked on by people in my homeschool group, my husband, kids, etc. all the time.

Anyway, my father was telling me how he ate healthy too and we were talking about sweets and such and I told him that I really didn't eat sweets (other than the occasional piece of candy with my coffee and fruit) and I had to laugh because he told me that a healthy snack was Little Debbie oatmeal cakes! emoticon emoticon

I couldn't help but laugh at that being considered "healthy"!

I'm still in organization mode although I feel I am no where near being done. My husband's and my closet seriously need help as does my downstairs super small linen closet. I am so limited on space (everything is small in my home) so I've got to think of a way to organize so that it doesn't end up taking up even more space.

I need to get some wicker type or canvas baskets to make it look nicer when you open the doors. I got an over the door shoe rack for the linen closet but the door is one of those small ones and I have to sort of bend the rack so it fits on the door. It won't fit anywhere else because my husband replaced the doors in our house years ago by himself and he ended up putting the doors to close to the top of the door frame and the doors won't close on the metal hooks.

There are so many limitations in my home, and with it being small on top of those limitations I tend to get very frustrated and overwhelmed at times with trying to organize efficiently.

Inflated - I'm sure he probably will have some dietary restrictions. He has colon cancer and will have to have it removed this month.

We have a light in our hallway (where the linen closet is) so we can see things in there okay, especially since it's such a shallow closet. As usual, everything in our house is small and limited, LOL.

LOL about wishing the Little Debbie oatmeal cookies were healthy. Yeah, my father is in denial for sure as they are NOT healthy just because they have some oatmeal in them.

I'm not picking on him, but he was very strict with us growing up food-wise, but when I look back on it, a lot of the things that he ate/eats weren't all that healthy. He thought he was eating whole wheat bread, but it was Roman Meal bread, which isn't whole wheat (or at least wasn't back then, don't know if has changed).

We ate a lot of fried foods, etc. Again, not healthy, LOL.

I am glad you got to talk to your Dad. He may have dietary restrictions after his surgery depending on where the cancer is.

I have a narrow broom closet I guess you would say, in the hallway across from my kitchen and right behind the living room. We had to have lights put into all the closets because you couldn't see what was inside of them without a light.

Don't Ever Give Up!

Saturday, March 03, 2012

My husband is on call this week so I'm not able to go to IKEA (boo hoo) or at least I don't know if I will get to go since it's so far away (45 minutes) from me. Next weekend I have to pick up my unsold church consignment sale items (on Saturday) and also on the following Saturday. The third Saturday, he'll once again be on call so not sure when I'll get a chance to go.

I've purchased a lot at IKEA lately, but there are always things I need once I start organizing and realize that I could get it there cheaply.

We had some thunderstorms come through again last night but luckily my particular area didn't get hit with the high winds and tornadoes like the next county over did.

I'm going to start tagging my church consignment sale items this weekend as I'm running out of time (drop is Thursday). I really don't have as much this go around as last (I don't think anyway) so that is a good thing.

Our homeschool group is starting to get more active and I'm really excited about that. It's been a long, hard road to get to where we are now and I'm so glad that I didn't just give up on it like my friend and husband were wanting to. Call it stubbornness or what you want, but I just didn't want to give up on it when things looked hopeless.

The same with my weight loss journey. It can be so overwhelming when you see you have so much weight to lose. It took me approximately a year to lose the weight I wanted to but I didn't give up. You can never give up on something, you just never know what you will accomplish if you keep at it when things look down and out.
