At the Halfway Point

The year is half over and I am at the half way mark on my weight loss goals. I quit taking my pain meds because the summer heat was making me feel sick with them. However since I have lost this amount of weight the pain is not nearly as severe as I would have expected. I am very happy about that. I only wish the weight loss would be the solution to my problem and not the upcoming surgery in January. Having seen my most recent xrays I know better than to indulge in that little fantasy. I got my bloodwork back from my yearly check-up. The doctor wrote excellent at the bottom. One more blessing from my healthier lifestyle. Woo hoo!

Return of an Old Love

My knee has been hurting a lot the last week. I decided to just swim for my cardio this week to give it a rest. I went out and bought a pair of swim goggles and a nose clip. Wow, what a difference. Just using these two pieces of equipment has improved my swimming form and ability immensely. I always liked to swim, but now I love it. Also this is an activity I know I can continue up until my upcoming surgery and after my recovery. It just amazes me just how using the right tools during exercise can really enhance performance. Woo hoo!

Jumping In!

My physical therapist has been telling me to include more swimming or water exercises into my program. So I decided to start on just Saturdays. Today I finally made it after work. It was great! I managed to swim 10 laps. It felt so refreshing and just glorious. I need to find another swim cap however, my current one is letting water leak onto my hair-a definite no-no for me. Jeez, when did I become so prissy? Lol! Gradually I would like to include some swimming after my other gym workouts, it will feel so great to cool off that way. I find that if I just start a habit it is easier to keep doing it the next time. Tomorrow-weigh in day!

    Good job! I recently started swimming as well. It's really tough for me... I can only swim one length before I need to rest. But I do manage to get about 10 laps in total... it just takes a while..

I can't believe I've already lost 17 pounds. I have a ways to go, but this is a good beginning. I have had more pain lately since I have upped my exercise. I hope I can hold out until I get my weight off. I am thinking that if I am down close to my weight range by the end of the year, I will have my hip joint replacement surgery at the beginning of next year instead of waiting until later in the year. I just don't think I can take the pain that much longer. I have good days and bad days with my joints, but I sure do feel better now that I am doing something to actively improve my situation, and this site had really helped. My physical therapist has suggested I work some swimming into my routine to give my joints a break. I think if I continue to have problems I am going to do that. Later...


Sneaky Snacks!

Weigh-in day again. I lost 3 lbs last week. No big surprise there. Pretty good for a 51 year old women approaching menopause. I went to the movies yesterday with my husband, my son and one of his friends. I decided I didn't want to be tortured by the smell of that movie popcorn (which I love with tons of butter-of course). So I put sneaky snacks in my purse. I had a small apple, a serving of almonds and several pieces of my favorite soft black licorice tucked away. All accounted for in my calorie total for the day. No guilt!! My husband ate lunch at home, then ordered from the restaurant in the theater when we got there. He had 3 sliders, some sweet potato fries (ok, I tried one of those for heaven sakes!), and a root beer float. I enjoyed my snack tremendously and didn't feel once ounce of deprivation sitting next to him eating his food. I wish more restaurants and theaters would take people's health into account with their offerings. I think they would make more money from my segment of the population who cares about their choices.

    Great job on taking your own snacks to the movies. I know the movie theaters do not like this but until they start offering healthy snacks, I will be bringing in my own!

I did the same thing last week when I took my granddaughter and daughter to the movies. I brought in a snack I could have along with a bottle of water.
