My Detox Plan...for anyone who is interested...

Thursday, January 08, 2009

I have had so many people ask about my detox and I love sharing it with them, but no one has been able to do it sucessfully other than me and Tony I think (and I think one other person from my White Hawks team did it for one week)...
It isn't hard and there isn't anything gross about it-no pills to take or nasty things to I don't know why people can't do it, unless it is because it takes good old fashioned determination and will power. But here it goes....
This didn't come out of a book or magazine...Tony and I created this ourselves. We do it for 2 weeks and lose between 5-6 lbs for the two weeks (I think the most we lost was 7 lbs). You do the same thing each week, so I am only going to write it once: just know that you repeat the instructions the second week.

Breakfast: 4 fruit salad (any 4 fruits will do...I usually have a banana, 15 grapes, an apple, and a grapefruit)

Snack: 2 Tbls of mixed nuts and 1 box of raisens (you can have a piece of fruit here instead of raisens, but the nuts are for protien)

Lunch: a salad (use whatever veggies you want here, but no cheese, crutons, or protien whatsoever)
2 Tbsp of low fat or free dressing (I use french free)

Snack: a piece of fruit like an apple, an orange...something

Dinner: Some type of Bean or pea (black eyed, green peas, limas, pinto, etc)
I usually have a cup to a cup and a half of whatever kind of bean he makes.(this is for protien because besides the nuts, there is no other protien source)
Salad: again, vegetarian only with low fat or free dressing
Fruit for a snack

No eating past 7pm and drink tons of water sodas, not even diet.

I avoid breads, dairy, and meats of all kinds. I try to stay low sodium by sticking with fresh or frozen veggies, or low sodium canned veggies. (the week after you quit detoxing, you will gain if you go back to eating higher sodium foods.)
Just goes to show you that fresh is better than canned! :)
I do this plan all week, then on Saturday between the two weeks, I relax a bit. Now, by relax I mean, eat healthy, but not so strict. Allow those things in that I took out like the meat, dairy, and bread. Kind of a modified cheat day but I stay in my calorie range.

Week 2: (starts Sunday)
More of the same.....I weigh in each Saturday during detox, and on the second Saturday, after I weigh in, detox is officially over.

If you decide to try it, remember that except for that one Saturday, no cheating is allowed, and that if you do try it, write me and let me know how it goes....I would love to know if it worked on anyone besides us...

Oh yeah, one more thing...this is a good way to get yourself through a plateau. I never plateau'd more than two weeks because I detoxed my way out of it....

Good luck!

It would seem that it wouldn't be many calories, but logging in my food when detoxing has shown 1200-1400 or so calories per day. With dedication you can do it. And there isn't the side effects of using pills or drinks, etc. It is also a cholesterol free detox.
But I posted it only for those who were interested, because I am asked about it every time that I detox.

I bet not many people can stick to that! It doesn't seem like many calories.

Okay...I have detoxed a full 3 days and I am starting day 4 is going good. Alot better than I originally thought it would. Just from Monday to Tuesday, I lost 4 lbs of water weight. Then this morning, I lost another I am down 5 lbs since Monday...that is the good news.
The bad news is that because I binged from Thursday to Sunday so badly (and it was BADDDDD) I have just now lost below what my last Limes weight I am not going to have the big loss that I want for the weigh in today...but that's what I get for binging...
That also means that I have only lost 1.4 lbs of my 15 I have to lose for the March Challenge. But at least I have lost something. If the weather holds up today, me and Bandit are going for a walk! It rained all day Monday and Tuesday, and then yesterday I had to take Pep to the vet and we had I am hoping for the best with the weather today...
Tony just told me that yes, it will be good to walk tonight....
Okay...I have to go get dressed....I will see everyone later!

Detox Begins...

Monday, January 05, 2009

It is time to undo some of the damage I have done to myself since May. No more excuses....
Tony and I are beginning our detox program again. We haven't done it in a long time. We will detox for the next 2 weeks, eating fruits and veggies, nuts and beans, and cutting out all the bread, meat, most of the sodium, and sugar.
The first few days are going to be hard. I have almost eaten myself into a coma with the amount of food I have eaten just since New Years has been criminal. I have even gained just since Thursday when I weighed in for the limes.
I some extra incentive though to do this though. Sharon and Bruce are coming to visit in March and she and Bruce threw down the gauntlet so to speak on New Years Day....The guys both think they can lost 33 lbs by the time they come, and Sharon is going to lose 20, and I think I can lose 15. We will see how it goes. If we make it, Sharon and I get to go know I love shopping...
It is supposed to rain today, so I don't know if I will get to go for a walk today or not, but I hope it will be done by the time I get home. Bandit hasn't gotten much exercise this weekend. He needs to get out.
So here I go...time to refocus my mind and get me back into that losing mindset. I hope I can do it.

Today wasn't too bad. Cynthia has been volunteering at the daycare with me since she has been out of school and it really helps me with the kids. For some reason, when I am by myself they go for the kill. It is nice to have reinforcements.
I wore my pedometer today...I walked 9399 steps, of which 3099 were aerobic steps. I did 31 min of aerobic walking today. I burned a total of 324 calories. The worst thing I ate at work was 5 m&m/chocolate chip cookies. Everything else I ate, I brought to work--oops...I forgot the spoon of sweet peas and the two bites of chicken/rice casserole...but I did alot better than usual. I also had one diet coke today. I really need to quit drinking them again.
When I got home, Tony had cooked dinner for the first time in a long time. We had bean soft tacos on wheat tortillas tonight. They were really good. After dinner, I took Bandit for a walk. Next time, I will wear gloves. My fingers almost froze off. They are still partly frozen I think. Tomorrow, I will push towards making at least 10,000 steps on my pedometer.
Oh yeah, I didn't tell anyone about my pedometer. I got a new one from It is an Omron Walking Style. It has steps walked with a clock, aerobic steps walked and the amount of aerobic walking time, the amount of calories burned, and the number of miles walked. It doesn't put extra steps on there, nor do you have to fight to find a spot to wear it where it will work. I can put it in my pocket on clip it on my belt. I love it. It was $27.00.
Okay, enought rambling. I hope everyone had a great day!!

Way to go, Kim!! Sounds like you had a great all around day. I have the same pedometer and LOVE it. I showed it off to my wellness group and most of the group went out and bought them. I love the clock & that you don't have to clip it to your pants--GREAT features!!

Need to update...

Monday, December 29, 2008

I was looking at my page today and realized that I was in need of a page update. My goals are askew, I need to check out my comments and I needed to blog about where I am in my journey. Then it dawned on me that I needed to update more than just my page...I need to update me!
I need to get back to that mindset I was at before. I have to quit eating out and start watching my sodium again. I have gained back 30 lbs and am flirting with twosville again. I have to stop this and remember why I started losing weight to begin with. I need to start walking Bandit again and stop using the weather as an excuse. Eventually I need to start logging my food in. That may not happen right away, but it is a goal to work towards.
I know I can do it, I just need to update alittle.

I totally understand. I have been on/off plan (mostly off) since Sept./Oct. and today I finally weighed myself and I gained back 16 pounds. So I'm re-dedicating myself to this journey. The positive side is that I lost and kept off over 40 pounds in 2008 and I know I can do this. I know you can too. Eating out is a killer for me too. Good luck.
