What a day!

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

Today was full of ups and downs. Mostly up, but had one major incident that could have been really bad! I thought I had lost my case containing all of my flash drives with all of my school materials, grad school coursework, pictures, and other miscellaneous files! I went to save a file that was sent to me by a colleague and could not find my case. I searched all of my stuff. The last time I remembered having it was at the school central offices when I was laminating things yesterday. After searching my classroom, car, and having dd search at home, I drove over to the county office and looked around the room I was in there. I had several ladies there helping me look, with one promising to call if she found it. I looked around my classroom some more, called dd that was with me, then went back to the county offices to look again. Ended up calling the custodian (who works at my school and the co). Two ladies, who I had met before but really didn't know, came out and helped me search through 2 trash bags in the dumpster!! We did not find it, but did find the bag that contained some things I knew were from when I was there (poster paper I had used, laminate, etc). I continued searching my classroom, van, etc. again and promised to let the ladies know if I found it. When I got home, I decided to search my bag one last time. Lo and behold, it had gotten wedged beside some books tucked into the side, caught up in the interior lining of the bag! It was there the whole time! I sent an email thanking the ladies for helping me and letting them know that I did find it (and where!) Others from the CO also emailed me, letting me know they were worried and wanting to know if I'd found them. I feel so blessed to work with wonderful people in my district!

During our common core training today, we arranged to meet with just self-contained EC teachers (before, we were always told to choose a subject area or grade level- so not helpful!). One of the EC teachers (whose classroom we were in) said that she had 2 computers she no longer needed. They were fairly new, but she didn't have room for them. I said I would take 1 if no one else needed it. She let me take both of them, so I now have 2 new computers in my classroom! I can set up a station for Waterford and a station for SuccessMaker, with 2 computers for each instead of 1 like I had last year! A co-worker helped me get a bigger CPU desk brought in to switch and take out 1 old CPU and helped set them up! Again, so blessed!

Our opening meeting for the county was today before common core. Super impressed with the county Superintendent, teacher of the year, and the state super, who came to speak! It was an awesome assembly!

Continuing to work backwards through my day, I went to the hour-long cycle class this morning. Kicked my behind, but in a good way! Great interval workout and included some toning moves on the bike as well. Also did an abs workout. Was almost too sore to climb the hill at dds soccer practice tonight!

Continuing to do well with regular exercise, meeting my ab/core workout goal, and getting in plenty of fruits and veggies, but still struggling to take in enough calories. I hit 1,000 today, though, and doubled yesterday's intake (around 500!) One more workday, with our EC meeting taking up most of tomorrow, then students come in on Thursday morning. I am not ready!

    Oh my gosh, so glad you found your flash drives. I can imagine how you must have felt when you thought they were lost. It does sound like you are blessed to be working with a lot of wonderful people.

Calorie range, exercise, and back to school!

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

I have been struggling to get enough calories in. Seems silly. Not long ago, I was again struggling to stay in my range. I did make it into my range today, for only about the 5th time this month! I got really snacky when fixing dinner, and ate a bunch of cherries. Then got snacky again when making milkshakes for the girls tonight, and ate a few handfuls of grapes plus a couple bites of frozen yogurt and mango sorbet. Made it just over 1200 calories for the day. I am not going to worry too much about being low, even if I am under 1000 (which I have been quite a bit). It is summer, it is hot, and I am not doing as much or as stressed as I was during the school year and through my summer grad school classes. Just hoping I don't get out of control once the stresses of the school year creep back in!

I have been doing really well with exercise this week, hitting the 120minute mark most days this week. I planned to get up at 4:45 this morning to go to the Y for a 5:30 cycle class, and woke up at 4:20 so I just stayed up. Enjoyed the class, though it ran longer than I thought. I was mentally prepared for a 30-45minute class, and it went for an hour! I also got in my strength/abs workout when I got home from the Y. Later, I took the girls bowling. Had a great time and proud of 9yo dd for scoring a 114 without the bumpers!!

Training in the morning, then taking the girls skating. Thursday is my official first day back at work, IEP meeting Friday, then we go to the beach for the weekend before starting full-force on Monday with meetings, trainings, and getting ready for the kids to come in Aug 9. I am not ready for my summer to be over! On the other hand, I heard today that the teacher who took the middle school position that I turned down 2 years ago lost his job today. It was a position that was funded through a federal grant, and was only supposed to last 1 year, but ended up being 2. Had I taken it, I would be out of a job right now. One of the reasons I turned it down at the time!

Looking forward to yoga in the morning before my workshop!

    Yep, I don't worry much about it when I know that I am not getting the exercise in.

    I agree with not making calories for the up. My calorie range went up because I kept getting messages that I was burning too many calories exercising and I need to adjust my fitness, which then raised my calorie range by 200 calories. I was worried I would sabotage my weight loss since it says not getting enough calories isn't healthy. So then I kept forcing myself to eat more to stay within that new range and wouldn't you know, I gained weight!! Only time I gained since starting the challenge.

Anyway, great job on the workouts too.

Adding on, 100 day challenge with 30 day abs challenge

Sunday, July 29, 2012

I did a 100 day challenge a while back and decided it was time for another one. My 100 day challenge will run July 28- Nov 4.

So, I have 5 main goals that encompass some of what I want to accomplish. I will track specific steps towards these goals in my blog. All these goals together will hopefully help me feel better and less stressed as I enter my last grad school classes and begin a new school year

Goal 1: return to regular, daily exercise, focusing on toning
~~~~~steps to meet this goal:
a} get up at 5am on weekdays to workout, either at home or at the YMCA
~ Tues/Thurs cycle class 5:30am
~ Wed/Fri Yoga class 6:00am
b} meet my colleague at the YMCA 2-4 mornings per week
c} walk/strength train in the evenings if I don't get in a workout in the am
d} 30 day abs challenge- July 28- Aug 26: 15 minutes of various abs exercises
Goal 2: drink 10+ 8oz glasses of water each day
~~~~steps to meet this goal
a} pack cooler with 4 24oz water bottles
b} only drink one water bottle after work/in the evenings
c} in-home water-cooler (too much iron in our well water)

Goal 3: continue healthy eating, and improve on what isn't working.
~~~~steps to meet this goal
a} continue packing lunch daily (fix 3 salads at a time on Sunday evening and Wednesday evening)
b} pack breakfast or eat breakfast at home
c} plan healthy dinners around schedules, packing something for Friday nights when I have class
d} no snacking after 7:30pm
e} eat more veggies than fruits
Goal 4: In bed by 10:00pm, up at 5:00am.
~~~~Steps to meet this goal
a} remind the kids that I have to be in bed!
b} re-establish bedtime routines for me and 9yo dd
c} no hitting the snooze button!!
d} plan to meet friend at the Y to help me get up

Goal 5: spend more time with the kids
~~~~Steps to meet this goal
a} leave work at school
b} set schedule for class work
30 day Abs challenge Day 1
Saturday, July 28, 2012
I had a great weight-loss in July, with an 8 pound loss from the end of June to this weekend. I decided I want to again shift my focus to improving muscle tone. I found a link on pinterest yesterday showing a 30 day abs/core challenge. I decided to start it today. I am not doing it the way the blog author suggests, with this same workout every day, though.
http://kayciesantics.blogspot.com/2012/0
3/300-ultimate-ab-and-core-challenge_2
2.html
I am going to do this workout every other day or 3 days per week, and do some plank-based abs work or other abs workout on the other days. 30 days of focusing on abs. I took a before picture for myself and will take pics each week to track progress and results. Last year, my abs were getting pretty toned before I stopped my daily morning strength sessions and I want to get back to that. My pants got tight over the winter, and I do not want to go up a size.
Goals:
- reduce softness in my abs
- be more comfortable in my bikini when dh and I go to the beach
- be able to comfortable wear my size 4 slacks for work
Day 1, I did her workout this morning. I wasn't able to get 25 of everything, but I did at least 10 of all except the jack-knife thing. I didn't like it and didn't feel it in my abs, so I decided not to do it. I also added some of my own abs moves that hit areas I didn't feel in this workout.
I hope to keep up with tracking this better than I did the sleep in July. I did ok with that one, getting 8 hours a night, until I had my workshop where I had to leave by 7:00am to get there on time. I struggled and ended up only getting 5-6 hours a night. Plus, while I know it is difficult getting enough sleep with babies at home, I hadn't realized how difficult it would be getting enough sleep with teens at home!
Crazy teens and 5% challenge week 4 weigh-in
Friday, July 27, 2012
Well, I didn't make it to yoga this morning. Had a long talk last night with my 17yo son about expectations. He had spent the night with his girlfriend, told us he was at his friend's house when he wasn't. DH is mad that he lied, ds doesn't seem to understand that he can't, at 17, spend the night with his gf. I had to talk him into not leaving once dh and I went to bed. So I was up until 1am and decided, when I woke up at 5:20, that I needed sleep more than I needed to go to yoga this am. Of course, I still woke up at 7.
Weigh-in this am: 140!
5% challenge Starting Weight 6/23: 147
6/30: 146
7/7: 144
7/14: 142
7/21: 141
7/28: 140
8/4:
8/11:
Final Weight 8/18:
My 5% goal is to lose 7 lbs
My goal weight is 140 lbs met with 3 weeks to go!!
(Starting weight x 0.05 = 5% goal)
(Starting weight x 0.95 = goal weight)
I am amazed! It has been so hard before to lose anything, and I surpassed my goal this month. I am at the lowest weight I've been at in a year! Stress level has been much lower with being out of school and finishing my Master's classes by mid-month. I haven't been as hungry, due both to lower stress and getting more sleep. Pain from braces has also led me to eat less this month. Hoping to lose a little more before school starts Aug 9 and focus on maintaining and keeping stress low through the school year!
I'm off to get some things done at home today and try to do something fun with my girls this last Friday I have off!
    Oooo, frustrations with the son! I am not looking forward to the teen years with my boys, although I have a long way to go. My oldest is only 4, but I'm sure it will be here quicker than I thought.
Great job in the weight loss and reaching your 5% goal. I started out so good too, I was losing 2 pounds a week for the first 3 weeks (had to lose 8.5 for the challenge) and then things slowed down. I checked my weight this morning and it went up 3 pounds!! GRRRRR!!! But this is my TOM week, which tends to mess with my weight. Plus, I had an impromptu date with my DH last night and I'm sure I went over in calories, although since we ate at a local restaurant and I have no clue how to track a meal that I'm not sure what all went into making it. But I did have pasta and bread last night, so that may have contributed to my higher # this morning as my body holds onto everything, especially carbs, during my TOM. I'm hoping tomorrow morning it's back down to normal so I can log that in as my weight for the week.
