Superfood!

Wednesday, December 08, 2010

Just watched the video "Foodmatters" and I thought it was really interesting. I have always believed that we are what we eat. I also believe that there are so many diseases and illnesses because of the food we put in our body.

Our body was made to fight off illness...but we have to put healthy food in our bodies. Continuing to put toxic food in our systems is just making us more weak and more likely to become ill.

I loved this video so much that I googled superfoods...and found this great article below from WebMd. The video also goes into raw food (since that is when food has the most nutrients) and it also talks about vitamins, organic foods, etc.

I by no means am an expert on anything about nutrition but I have always strongly believed that we have so many diseases today because of what we put in our bodies.

Weekend Worries

Friday, October 08, 2010

So Monday thru Friday I do great...i have my routine down. But then Friday night rolls around and so do the bad habits. Friday night thru Sunday night is horrible!

Drinking,
Overeating,
Laziness!!!

How do I get my Saturday to be more like my Monday?
What is it that I am doing differently?

PRE-PLANNING!!!! That's the difference!

I preplan my meals for work, schedule a workout after work and have dinner planned out. I dont ever do that on the weekends. Weekends are a free for all.

So I WILL preplan my weekend.
I WILL have my meals planned out.
I WILL schedule my workout.

I WILL NOT let my hard work from the week be for nothing because 1 beer turns into 3 beers, which tastes great with deep fried boneless buffalo wings. And since i've been bad saturday night...why not go out for breakfast Sunday morning and have bacon, homefries, scrambled eggs?

NOPE...not this time. I WILL PREPLAN.

xoxo

Incredible Edible Egg

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Thought this was interesting and informative and wanted to share! Found it on the incredible edible egg website.

Protein/Weight Management
One egg provides 6 grams of protein, or 12% of the Recommended Daily Value. eggs provide the highest quality protein found in any food because they provide all of the essential amino acids our bodies need in a near-perfect pattern. While many people think the egg white has all the protein, the yolk actually provides nearly half of it.

The high-quality protein in eggs helps you to feel full longer and stay energized, which contributes to maintaining a healthy weight. In fact, research* shows that eggs eaten at the start of the day can reduce daily calorie intake, prevent snacking between meals and keep you satisfied on those busy days when mealtime is delayed.

Muscle Strength, Repair & Preservation
Research indicates that high-quality protein may help active adults build muscle strength and middle-aged and aging adults prevent muscle loss. Consuming eggs following exercise is a great way to get the most benefits from exercise by encouraging muscle tissue repair and growth.

I believe the information you found on eggs. I pretty much gave them up because of cholesterol issues. Now there seems to be some dispute about whether or not eating eggs raises serum cholesterol. I hope "they" decide soon, because I'd love to go back to eating eggs.

Recipe Review...Maryland Style Crab Cakes

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

I love trying new recipes and for dinner last night I tried the
Maryland Style (imitation) Crab Cakes submitted by lisafrommass

These were really good and super easy to make.

Taste:
A little bland but not sure if it was because the breadcrumbs I used had no salt. But the texture was sooooo good. I think this will be really nice as a sandwich on a toasted bun and maybe a little bit of tarter sauce.

Preparation:
Super easy to make and I had most of the ingredients on hand. I made the crab cakes smaller so that they were easier to handle and would cook nicer without burning them. Quick and easy.

Will I make this again:
Absolutely! That's what I am having again for dinner tonight.

Do you have any favorite sparkpeople recipes???
