Update 4/4/11

Monday, April 04, 2011

Ok, A quick update.

Good News: Down a few more lbs. Wore size 16W pants!!! Bought 2 pairs (started at 24/26 Jan 1st). Daughter said it was the best birthday ever! Says she's happy for the first time in her life we feel like a true family. Yeah! tummy is feeling a bit better.

Bad news: I dropped my car off Saturday to get checked out for the sensor light coming on. Well, They found a hole in a plastic tube from the oxygen sensor - nice cheap fix, right? Well, then they were driving the car around to park and it died. Stalled, died, wouldn't start back up. SOOOooo it needs a new timing belt. I need to have it towed to a different garage that does engine stuff. They will look to see if my valves or head or anything else is damage. PLEASE DON"T LET ME NEED A NEW CAR!! I just paid off this car March 15th!!!! Between things breaking and the house and now my car, I just feel very depressed & overwhelmed. I know somehow we will get by, but I can't handle putting much more on our credit cards without feeling like we are going to sink!

This sounds like the story of my life. We have had things like this happen, far more often that we need (not that anyone needs this) and at times I have sat down and laughed. This way I have gotten through in an emotionally better frame of mind. Hope the car fix isn't a biggie financially, and that when it is done, there are no more problems with it! Good one on the trou too :-)

Glad to hear from you darl, I miss my sparkies when they don't post! What an amazing thing for a teen daughter to say, you must be so proud of yourself and your gorgeous family :) Best of luck with the car business.... ew

Thanks for your comment on my day. I'm gonna fess up I succumbed to chocolate. I had a cookies and cream bar and a mint aero. The smallest sizes available though! I'm not going to get down on myself about that though, like you pointed out it was an exceptionally frustrating day. Sure, there were better ways to cope than with food, but that's a lesson for the next frustrating day! Hearing (reading) someone that I know has a solid work ethic say that I sound good to work with is SO much more impacting on my psyche than what one sad person who has to cause conflict could ever do, so thanks Kaz, very much!

I think cars know the time to break down is right after they are paid off! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's not painfully expensive.

Feelin a lil better, doc visit, & almost daughters bday!

Thursday, March 31, 2011

I'm swallowing a little better today! Yeah! The doc is sending me to get an upper GI scope done, and gave me some things to try in the meantime. I did eat some oatmeal and a banana so far today (yeah) and I'm going to make mashed potatoes for tonight. It's still hard to swallow food, but it's not as painful :) My lower GI stuff is okeydokey! SO I'm half better! lol

I can't believe tomorrow is April Fools. Sixteen years ago tomorrow, I went into labor with my daughter. I just finished dinner of my third ice cream sandwich (after two servings of spaghetti & sauce) and my water broke. I called the doctors office. The on-call nurse answered and said, "ha ha that's not funny anymore. Happy april fools now stop calling" HUH? I called back, explained myself.. then I called my Mom - her husband answered and replied, "I'm not falling for that, April fools" huh? No really I am, put mom on the phone. then I hear "Val, Karen's on the phone, she's gonna have the baby" "yeah, right, ha ha april fools to you too". Ok, people, I"m really in labor. I did go into the hospital that night after my mom arrived and told them I was NOT having this baby on april fools. I already had enough FOOLS for ONE day! lol. And I didn't. The next afternoon I was induced and had this beautiful 7lb bright eyed baby girl.

I'm happy you are feeling a bit better, I hope it continues to improve. Love the story about your daughter, although I can imagine it must have been frustrating at the time. Reminds me of me and my late grandfather. I was his first grandchild, due on his birthday, but was late by a day. Every year while he was alive he used to call me on his birthday and say "Happy Birthday Tid Tid, pity you were late!"

Enjoy your weekend :)

Glad a scope is being done!

My Grandson was induced on April Fool's but his birthday is the following day (tomorrow for us)

He was no joke, either - 10lb 14oz of baby born natural and with only 2 paracetamol for a headache!!

A Poopy Night.. but I do have the dr appt in the morning

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Sorry for spammin the blogs today and such a poopy topic!!

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow morning. I'm so frustrated with them, I called at 8am and the nurse was like, oh you are constipated and have MS you are fine.. take this and this for a week and call us back. I told her to have the dr call me back, nope. I had to call and talk to another nurse who put the message through to the doc. at 3:30 I get a call they want to get me in asap. DUH. really? lol. So now I have to drive back into work tomorrow in order to be able to work and go to the dr. I am in so much discomfort. UGH. So I listened to the nurse. I bought Metamucil and took that, plus glycerin thingies (blush). So my downstairs is cleaned out. I am STILL plugged up in my throat/stomach/belly button areas. I forced myself to eat a very small meal tonight. I've drank 2 shakes, and I'm going to drink one more just to get a bit more nutrition. I'm really tryin to stay hydrated too. I really hope they figure out what to do with me tomorrow, cuz it's only getting worse.

Plugged Up. Hmph. (sorry for the topic)

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

I really don't want to blog about stuff like this, but I must. By blogging I have a reference point to go back to should I suddenly say, "hey, I dealt with this before" So here goes.

A few months ago we added a multi-vitamin to our diet. Well, for me that equaled constipation. So I took a stool softener with mild laxative to try and work through that. Well, that didn't work, so I took the multi-vitamin every other day, still didn't work, so I stopped taking it. My body still hasn't recovered fully.

I do pretty good on my fiber, and I drink a good amount of water, and stay away from the unhealthy stuff. so what on earth is going on? I've had issues with constipation in my past (even ER trips) so I know what that is all about. Well, the last few days I'm having a new issue. I'm going to have to call my doctor to go in and see her. Ugh again. I was hoping to avoid this...

Sunday, when I ate my evening apple snack, it felt like it got stuck in my throat. Not near the tonsils, but down lower, between the breast bone. Monday it felt like it traveled to my stomach area - a few inches lower but still felt tight. So I ate my food slower, and really spaced it out to try and help. I did pass some stuff, and (sorry to be descriptive) it was pretty normal - all except the fact that my muscles didn't want to push. Well, I still didn't feel right on Tuesday so I stayed with liquid stuff during the day, and still had a few small movements that were normal - but I couldn't push. So I'm wondering is it a muscular thing? Is it my MS? what on earth could be wrong with me. Last night we went out to dinner. I ordered a steak tip appetizer as my dinner along with a side salad (I tried to log it best I could). I took forever to eat the salad, and at a half of the piece of bread served with it. Didn't seem to have much problem, so I ate the few ounces of steak. It wasn't much. I also ate the onions and peppers and about eight forks of the rice. I shouldn't have eaten all that. It took me an entire hour to eat all that cuz I ate so slow, but I'm still paying for it. It didn't feel stuck in my throat this time, but my tummy is solid and sore. My upper abdomen (right above belly button) is sore and very solid feeling too. Now I have a little indigestion too (I guess red meat & rice isn't a good thing.. lol). I feel very plugged up. So a call to my doctor when they open. I really hope I don't have to go for exrays or anything. My boss is on her first day of vacation, and I need to be in the office. My daughter's birthday is Saturday and I need to clean the house. I'm also working on my sisters resume in my spare time, and just finished reinstalling the laptop with new OS & software (it's sitting here next to me installing SP3 lol). I don't have time to be sick. Also, my head cold seems to be letting up a little. I've been using neilmed sinus rinse every morning, and sinus spray every night. ugh.

Like Bippy, I also don't take my vitamin in pill form. I use some meal replacement products for some of my meals. Or, parts of meals.

It's a powder that I mix with water by IsaGenix.

I've never had "plugging up" problems with a pill, but, I choose liquid methods of getting vitamins and other supplements, when possible, because I believe that the body absorbs them better. (I think gel caps probably absorb well, too.)

Are you taking your multivitamin in a compressed pill form? I have the same problem with those. I tried kids chewable vitamins for a while but they just don't have the right balance. I now actually use Aquafina + Vitamins (sorry for the brand placement, it's just better than the other major vitamin water available). It's a multivitamin in flavored water, it has a 10 cal option and a huge variety of really delicious flavors. I drink half one of those every day and if I feel like I'm getting sick, or people are sick at work, I drink two in a day and I haven't gotten sick since doing that. Because it's absorbed right into the body it doesn't play havoc with my digestive system.

My fiber is pretty much all over the place. A small percentage of the time it's over. Majority of the time it's between 20 - 30. The rest is under. I have used benefiber many times before. I don't actually feel constipated though, that's the weird thing, plus when I do get stuff out, it's not hard or anything. I am feeling the pressure between the top of my rib cage the most. and then random pains & gurgles from my chest, stomach, abdomen. I called the doc, waiting on a reply call to get me in. I've only been using the stool softener with laxative for 2 weeks now. oh well. lol i'm on a liquid diet today too. Brought lots of stuff. I did bring in more vegetable soup in case I get brave.

Ugh... that totally sucks. I had a similar problem with constipation a few weeks ago, I blamed the MS. The only way I could describe it was that it felt like I forgot how to pooh. DH thought I was nuts. It did pass after about a week, but it felt like a very LOOOONG week. I hope yours passes soon!

That's definately odd, you should really go to the doctor. I'm sure your office would much rather have you healthy and feeling well. I don't eat alot of fruits and veggies, so I've just recently started adding benefiber to my breakfast. It doesn't taste bad at all (I get the orange flavored one) Maybe that might help?

Wow I have no idea, never heard of this. I have constipation when I go OFF my vitamins. Did the lentil stew help. Sounds to me like you definitely need to be seen; have you been hit on the head or similar? Google vagus nerve.

You need to take care of YOU first. The other things happening that you are involved with can be put on hold. Go to the doctor and see what is wrong. It may be a quick fix and you will feel better sooner.

How much fiber do you consume? I have to eat a VERY high fibre diet - minimum of 42 grams but at times up to 60 grams (over 2 oz). My Dietitian is aware and said unfortunately some people DO need that! I added fibre to my Nutrition Tracker. I have a spreadsheet on the computer and every day I enter Calories, Fat, Fibre, Bowel Movements (hard, soft, difficult, none, not much, etc.) I also have columns for 3 different pain meds. One of them I seldom take because just one dose can cause constipation. When I have that one I HAVE to increase the fibre! The Dietitian prescribed Benefiber for me, and at times I need to take up to 10 or so teaspoons. She said that Benefiber is NOT a laxative, doesn't interfere with any meds, and is very low calories. Metamucil is similar in action but DOES interfere with some meds, and is higher in calories. I also use a lot of Baker's Bran every day, too! That is insoluble fibre which is better for these issues. BUT you need to make sure you fluid intake is sufficient! IF you were consuming laxatives fairly regularly, this COULD be part of the problem. They have a tendency to make the bowel wall lazy. People often use a laxative when THAT isn't the problem. The other thing that you may need to look at is how much fat do you consume. I USED to eat a very low fat content, and that does NOT help when you suffer constipation. Try increasing it if necessary, BUT with healthy fats! Certainly discuss this with your Dr if it continues to be a problem because you could have fecal impaction or an obstruction further up which can cause problems.

I hope that this is a little helpful. No need to apologize for the topic, either. If people were more open about these issues, there would probably be a lot less problems.
